been getting pulled in quite a few different directions lately."

Karrin claims, "I am low-key hoping things will start picking up once out of summer and people are
back in routines."

Karrin wonders, "Alright! Does anyone have any topics for this week?"

HIEROPHANT states to Karrin, "I usually leave Winter Holiday alone, too much OOC work goes into it
and I'd feel bad causing a hullabaloo"

Sparkles states, "I was on a RL vacation this week, but I'll be back around for whatnots."

Karrin nods at Sparkles.

Karrin says, "I will take the quiet for no topics. If anything comes up while we're doing our
updates, just let me know."

Karrin says to Temi, "I'll let you go first."

Temi states, "Nothing too big from me. Helping out with some plots and doing some little typo fix
like things."

Karrin states, "I've been bugging Lochan mostly, and cleaning up some boards that are not seen by
players to get things organized. Other little things, but nothing really hugely significant, I don't
think."

Karrin claims, "But we have no topics, so... unless you guys have any questions or comments or
announcements, we.. might be able to send you right on back to grid."

Sparkles states, "There was some IC planning started about future goings on, so ... potentially
something in the works."

Temi queries, "Nothing randomly bothering anyone?"

HIEROPHANT claims, "I suppose I have a small follow-up to a meeting topic from who-knows-how-long
ago."

HIEROPHANT says, "A while back we discussed some things on Major RPA, and what things a player or
group thereof might attempt to do with it, and how most things are better as a bunch of smaller
Minor RPA plots or would need a staffer as a header plot for oversight purposes"

Karrin says, "I remember."

HIEROPHANT finishes abruptly, "I was curious if those ideas in that meeting were ever discussed, as
one of the things we didn't get in that meeting was examples of things staff would probably approve
of attempting - many ideas were taken down as notes, but we didn't come to any conclusions as more
discussion was needed "

HIEROPHANT says, "I also had an additional thing to put into that hat."

Karrin claims, "I... think all of that was before I took over, so during Maeve's time as imp. We
could probably look back at it. I admit that making a list makes me a little squishy because I feel
like people will put those things in a box, and will think that is ALL that will fit into it, which
isn't necessarily true."

HIEROPHANT says, "That's the way Minor RPA already works, it's just Major that has no examples
listed."

HIEROPHANT states, "Adding things to the grid. Room-wise. Rooms take much more staff time to make
than, say, loading an item or a book, so it justifies the high QP cost of 100. Public rooms, in
particular - whether that's your character sponsoring some land surveys of Lithmore's surroundings
(adding wilderness rooms) or deep-diving the archeological wonders beneath and around the city
(expanding the underground, or adding new locales), it seems like something that might fit that
label so long as it's going to just expand the grid everyone can access."


Karrin says, "I sort of think it puts things IN a box, rather than allowing people to think outside
of it. But yeah, alright. no problem. I'll put it back on the staff talking points."

Sparkles claims, "I think it's a thing where people who are very good at thinking outside of the box
will already naturally do that but people who are intimidated by choice having no examples can get
kind of frozen"

Meiari claims, "I definitely suffer from analysis-paralysis >_>"

HIEROPHANT says, "It took me a while to figure out what Minor RPA can do even with examples,
descriptions, and a forum guide"

HIEROPHANT claims, "I even had old guild plots to look at once I became a GL, and it still took a
bit to wrap my head around it, so I think the examples are good for something at the very least"

Karrin says, "Alright, like I said. We'll put it back onto staff topics and see what we can come up
with."

HIEROPHANT states, "Yee"

HIEROPHANT says, "And, I suppose, for my fellow guildleaders who are here, plot list all is your
friend if you're not sure how to spend your gpoints, as a mildly rlated PSA"

Sparkles nods.

Sparkles says, "I do have a follow up question there."

HIEROPHANT says, "Me too, and I wonder if it's the same one. You go first."

Karrin says, "Sure."

Faith claims, "I've always found them difficult to interact with "

Valora states, "Please don't make run plots guys that's soooo much paperwork... I'll just send you
straight to the pyre if you do. "

Karrin says, "Plots have a steep learning curve the first time. But, you get used to it pretty
quickly."

Temi says, "We do find them more intimidating to get used to than they necessarily are once you have
some experience, but not intuitive to a lot"

Sparkles queries, "We have had situations of late where there is no GL for a time. Which can mean no
one to assign a Guild plot. During those periods of something is time sensitive.Is it okay to ask
staff to potentially help with that?"

Karrin claims, "Yeah. We have several GLs that are having some issues, or even some guilds at the
moment with no GLs. We can help out to get that moving so people don't have to use their QPs, I'd
think."

Temi says, "With a first preference for getting GLs in"

Sparkles nods.

Karrin claims, "Agreed."

Faith states, "In my current situation, which isn't my first plot, this character isn't a GL or a
member of a guild, so everything has to be done ICly and RP has been slow. "

Sparkles claims, "Mostly just to keep current folks motivated, etc."

Karrin says to Faith, "If it's a plot, you can do one on your own without a guild, it just costs QP
instead. Or, you can pair with another character who would be willing to bug their GL for a qp."

Karrin states, "However, if we're speaking of the guild tasks - those aren't intended to be... fast,
so to speak. The intention is to have something for the people on grid to pull from that's easy to
RP about when ideas are getting heavy or someone is having a hard time thinking of something."

Temi says, "Though the gpoints are really geared towards enabling guild business, not just
intentional stuff to spend for the sake of using them"

Sparkles nods.

Karrin nods.

HIEROPHANT says, "Yeah, that wasn't my question at all. Good question, though. Mine's related to
that notion, actually, Temi.

Gpoints are as I understand it meant to be an abstract tokenized measurement of a given Guild's IC
influence grid-wide, representing the available resources the guild's vNPCs are willing to or able
to muster for a given task, like an investigation, or whatever. The minimum requirement for a guild
plot is 1 gpoint.

My question is - can we use multiple points on a plot to improve the likelihood of a positive
outcome? Does adding multiple gpoints to a plot do anything, or are they only meant to be a
substitute for QP and, thus, currency to exchange for limited staff availability?

I bring it up because I generally don't like submitting more than one plot per OOC week if I can
help it. Staff time is limited, and spamming out plots just because I have points seems wasteful,
but not using the points at all also seems wssteful of the effort and IP put into the metric war."

Temi states, "I wouldn't increase chances for the same plan to work, but having more facets in it
might make some sense, I'd think"

HIEROPHANT claims to Temi, "Maybe allocating more resources could allow for a broader allowance of
what could reasonably be attempted in a single plot? I usually assume most plot resolutions take
about an IC month if not explicitly stated otherwise, so maybe they can broaden the scope, if not
the success rate? More hands doesn't necessarily mean -better- hands."

Temi claims, "If I would ask you to split it into multiple plots if not for the multiple gpoints, I
don't really have an issue with combining for more"


HIEROPHANT says, "As a random example, maybe the GI could use one gpoint to send a letter to a given
Cardinal about an important matter, but 5 gpoints could be used to address the Synod as a whole, or
something. They're both just 'talk to an NPC' plots, but one is clearly much larger in scope, but
still within Order Business, just off the top of my head."

Sparkles has lost link.

HIEROPHANT says, "Something that's still essentially one action for staff to consider and decide on
a fair dice-roll for or outcome in general, just with potentially higher stakes. But probably
smaller stakes than a Major RPA request might be, given you'll have at most 5 points to work with
and they're each currently roughly equivalent to 10 QP."


Temi claims, "If we were to do something like that, it would probably mean more snuffing off things
we'd currently allow without more payment, rather than allowing additoinal things."

Karrin claims, "We will look into it and have a talk about it. Typically, my opinion, I don't
encourage more than is required - unless it is a different kind of thing. Items or money. Extra QPs
and extra GPs don't feel like... what should really push things to better succeed or go farther.
We'll add it to our talking points with the major RP."

HIEROPHANT nods.

HIEROPHANT claims, "Most of the guild plots I've run have involved extra payment anyway, I've always
considered gpoints as the bare minimum to so much as make the proposal"

HIEROPHANT claims, "Same with the QP"

Temi says, "Generally the limitation has been less the gpoints cost and more what we feel is
reasonable and not unbalancing to allow at all"

Temi says, "Though yeah, we do still want to account for other sorts of costs, which would be more
of a size scale than the gpoints direction"

Karrin says, "I'd agree, which is why they are required. Anything extra is... extra that people add
to try to push it to success and help whatever it is to succeed. Even just as far as plan - a sucky
plan, no matter how much IP or QP you put into it, is destined to fail. So, it is multi-faceted, and
we try ot keep it balanced."

HIEROPHANT says, "Giving them more or better purpose would, I think, encourage more fighting over
metrics, even between guilds that aren't directly opposed"

HIEROPHANT claims, "I've pondered if they might be substituted in for extra QP costs when setting up
an Event for a bit of extra staff help beyond the bit you get from free Event RPA, for guild-themed
events. Like a sword blessing or a wedding or whatever."

Karrin says, "Not voting at all risks lowering of the metric, too. Because if there is a pool of
metrics that have no votes, and a pool of metrics that have, say, one vote... some will go down and
some will go up. Either way. Even if there were few votes."

HIEROPHANT claims, "There are also Notable NPC votes that shift metrics around."

Karrin claims, "There... are not."

HIEROPHANT claims, "Well. Okay. That's the justification for them randomly changing as I read it, I
dunno, 2 years ago in a helpfile."

Karrin claims, "Right, so. Say everyone who voted happened to vote for a single metric. Let's put
ourselves there."

Temi nods.

Meiari says, "We all voted for infrastructure to finally get it out of the hole :D *nudge nudge*"

HIEROPHANT says, "Idea being Health isn't just magically shifting around, there's someone or
something actively nudging it, and those nudges aren't always players.

But, prior staff kept metrics extremely opaque on purpose. I've never really gotten much of a
straight answer on the inner workings."

Karrin says, "That means that the one voted for, if positive, is guaranteed to go up. Then, if ALL
of the others were not voted for, they are essentially tied for 2nd highest. AND for lowest. So what
happens is, one of those gets chosen to bump up at random by the system. And two get chosen to be
bumped down at random."

Valora states, "Lithmore's roads are more pot holes than road and we apparently like them that way,
Don't change things up now Mei'ari."

Temi nods in agreement with Karrin.

Temi claims, "If there's ties, it's essentially up to the system to randomly decide. Hopefully
different each time, but not necessarily."

Karrin says, "So, while the IC explanation is NPC votes, there are no random NPC votes. It is one
hundred percent random if people aren't voting."

InvestSouthside states, "LEAVE MY ROADS ALONE IVE TRIED SO HARD"

Karrin states, "I had Lochan look into it like, last week. Which is why I know how it works."

HIEROPHANT says, "Huh. That's completely different from the conjecture I'd heard. The way I'd
understood it was there was a fixed number of "points" in the system that could shift around based
on voting results, meaning driving something up was an opportunity cost for everything else.

Which from my understanding, it IS still an opportunity cost, just not in the way I'd understood
it."

Temi claims, "There is a zero sum system with that as well, yes. But how that's done is by Karrin's
description"

HIEROPHANT asks, "Gotcha, so there's still "points" but their distribution is hierarchal and
proportional to total vote counts, with ties and no-vote metrics being adjusted at random?"

Karrin states, "I will be... gentle... as I say this. But, with my experience here, what I've
noticed is that people tend to make an assumption about how the system works - and will even do
'testing' for as far as their scope can see. And will come up with conclusions. But, the scope is
limited, and... it isn't necessarily how it ACTUALLY works, sometimes. So unless it comes from a
staffer who has either looked at the code, or had someone else look at the code for them, I'd take
anything with a grain of salt."

Karrin claims, "Systems also tend to change the more staffers switch out and new coders."

Karrin claims, "But, this one is... as it has always been, as far as I can tell."

HIEROPHANT claims, "I'd assumed that the "NPC Votes" thing was just so people couldn't metagame
who's voting for what metric."

HIEROPHANT states, "Well I can tell you this is the first open explanation of the system I've ever
seen, so."

Karrin claims, "The Seneschal has a command that lets them see who has voted (generically) and where
the metrics are in the ranking order, but not who voted for what."

HIEROPHANT claims, "Neat."

Karrin states to HIEROPHANT, "Unless it is a system that I feel needs to be secret, I'm glad to
answer questions. I find no need to keep this secret. I'd love for more people to interact with the
city support function."

HIEROPHANT claims to Karrin, "I cannot for the life of me remember if I submitted a helpfile for the
metric-war GL gameplay loop stuff. It was brought up in a meeting ages ago and it's been so long I
cannot recall to save my bacon."

Pontifex states, "Hi guys."

Karrin states, "I'd love for people to go to the Seneschal and go, "Hey, how are things leaning
right now? What needs more support?" Since he can ICly see what is ranked high and what is ranked
low."

Karrin claims, "Yeah. This one is designed, literally, so you can have IC insight through the
Seneschal and toy with it and manipulate it as you'd like. So, no secrets necessary. Top two go up,
bottom two go down."

Karrin states to Pontifex, "No worries! Glad you are here."

Faith states, "That sounds really mechanical to me."

Temi says, "Most systems have simple mechanics behind the scenes, really."

Karrin claims to Faith, "Well, on the surface, it is - we work via coding. The challenge is to bring
it IC and make it make sense in an IC world. And sometimes, that is a legit challenge. but, people
have been able to."

HIEROPHANT queries to Karrin, "So the other metrics listed on every city report that aren't the 2
highest or lowest are just random adjustments? Or is it just that the metrics not marked with the (--
) and (++) and so on don't change?"

Karrin says, "There's still no guarantee either way. People can support or subvert. With so few
people voting, one subvert can tank something, or one support can make something soar. It really
depends on how the rest of the players vote (or choose not to)."

Pontifex claims, "I mean it is mechanics, yeah. But the Seneschal still is implicitly in the know
about what the city budgets are and what not. Medieval cities back in the day were mostly ran by the
personal budgets of the notable people in the city."

HIEROPHANT says, "I guess if it's the latter that explains why it says the metric shifted "up" from,
say, Average to... Average."

Temi states, "They generally don't change unless there's spillover from the top ones."

Faith says, "Yes, of course. But I mean interacting with the Seneschal in that way doesn't seem very
organic, no matter how much RP you try and dress it up with."

Karrin says to HIEROPHANT, "The middle ones don't change. Just the top two and bottom two. UNLESS
they have recently been adjusted via a Seneschal adjustment or a plot or a project, which has
natural decay over time that falls off."

HIEROPHANT claims, "I dunno, I can think of some fairly easy ways to ask about it, myself."

Karrin says to Faith, "You'd be surprised."

Pontifex questions, "Seneschal, are we going to do something about the pot holes and poop on the
street?"

InvestSouthside claims, "Heard hes a pretty chill guy"

Karrin claims, "I have been working hard (and some players have been helping - thank you) to make
sure there are plenty of fun rumors to interact with and promote to help generate IP for you. So
more people can naturally interact with the metric system. We're hoping it... trickles... so to
speak."

Temi claims, "There's certainly mechanical ways to address these things, but they represent IC
things and so it's possible to discuss them in those terms"

Karrin states, "Rumor promotes DO give IP, to a certain limit. So."

Pontifex claims, "Trickledown economics are a scam, but I think trickledown IP might work."

HIEROPHANT says to Karrin, "Neat. I'd always just thought the neutral metrics weren't moving very
much or were being countered by opposing votes too badly. I'd assumed you needed a given number of
votes to move, but the notion that you need more votes in your chosen metric than everyone else to
get a positive impact (or fewer than everyone else to dunk it down) is new to me. And will have an
impact on my strategy for sure."

HIEROPHANT says, "I never noticed it was always one ++, one +, one --, and one -. Somehow."

Karrin states to HIEROPHANT, "I love that."

HIEROPHANT states, "In retrospect, it's obvious."

Karrin says, "I honestly thought it was way more complicated, at one time. But, it's not, yeah. It's
pretty in your face."

HIEROPHANT says, "It'd probably be a lot more clear if the neutrals didn't say they shifted up."

HIEROPHANT says, "'Health did not shift meaningfully this cycle.' in the report would be clearer."

Faith says, "Pontifex, that's an example of what I mean by mechanical. But I've said my piece."

HIEROPHANT claims to Karrin, "It gets more confusing when projects get involved. They do weird
things to the city report."

Karrin states, "They absolutely do."

HIEROPHANT states, "When you review an in-progress project it doesn't tell you how many steps it's
currently bumping the metric up (or down), numerically, and the metric 'goal' shown in the output
doesn't match the report. It's very noodly."

Karrin wonders, "We are getting close to the end of time, which I didn't expect as we started with
no topics. Do we have anything last minute for the extras we've added in throughout?"

Karrin states to HIEROPHANT, "It doesn't say how many steps, no. But it does have that metric shift
generality. I don't think it's meant to be obvious. But, that said, in my experience throughout the
last several years, the magic number has been 120 to do the "most". I haven't tested if more does
better, but less definitely doesn't."

HIEROPHANT trails off to Karrin, "It's mostly just misleading? Right when the project is submitted,
before another cycle passes, it's completely accurate: You can see what the metric is, how much the
project bumped it by, and what scale it's trying to get to at peak... but it misaligns when the
cycle turns over and that metric changes in either direction, so the longer a project lasts, the
more confusing it is to figure out how much it's actually doing"

Karrin says, "I'm not sure what we can do about that? When it's submitted/approved, that is how much
the metric will shift. I think only the 120s last 14 days and would span over a rollover depending
on when it is approved."

Karrin states, "You could do one for less, and ask for us to approve it at a certain time (and hope
we don't forget) - and in that case, it'd all fit within a single rollover and wouldn't change."

Karrin questions, "Alright, anything else?"

HIEROPHANT asks, "If at the very least the person running the project could check to see how many
steps its impact is worth? That information might be opaque to anyone else, reasonably"

HIEROPHANT states, "Since it apparently waxes and wanes in strength for its duration"

Karrin says, "It is something else we can talk about, but I'm not feeling strongly one way or the
other on it. And, no. It doesn't change with the rollover - it still affects the same way. The
metric may have gone down or up, but will still affect the same amount."

HIEROPHANT nods.

Karrin claims, "If it's going to bump it 30 points, it will do that no matter what."

Temi says, "But decreases over time as it gets closer to the end. It will always start at its full
power though"

Karrin nods in agreement with Temi.

HIEROPHANT wonders to Temi, "Yeah, and by how much it's fallen, is opaque. Also, I don't think
players know what '120' or '30' means because the point-values of metrics are opaque themselves by
default?"

HIEROPHANT claims, "Very enlightning meeting in a very unexpected way either way."

HIEROPHANT states, "For me, anyway. I don't know. The rest of you could be bored out of your minds
right now."

HIEROPHANT declaims, "If so, sorry!"

Karrin claims, "Number values are intended to be opaque. We'll probably keep it that way."

Karrin claims to Pontifex, "Go ahead, just a few minutes."

Pontifex says, "I do have something, mostly as to why I'm retiring as Poet Laudate and liquidating
the character."

Valora pontificates, "Oh no!"

Pontifex says, "It's pretty abrupt and I felt bad over it just going away with a vague explanation :
My brother has had a very nasty accident with a drunk driver and will have an extended hospital
stay. Due to that, I have to take care of his children, which brings the kids in my household from 3
to 5."

Temi comforts Pontifex.

Pontifex states, "Which is actually quite a lot and stressful. I'm sorry I just dip like this but
man. They're a lot of work."

Temi says, "That's rough. Totally understand. RL has to come first"

Temi claims, "And it's not like that's the sort of thing you can predict"

Karrin says, "It absolutely does, and stepping down from GL is something that was fully supported by
staff. No bias there or anything, just so ALL of you know - life has to come first. We just ask that
if you will be stepping away for any length of time, you let us know. We can help out in the interim
for a little while reasonably, or we can arrange something like this if absolute need be."

Temi nods.

Pontifex says, "Yeah, it's just life. But yeah, that's the reason and I would absolutely love to
play, but my time is limited now and my motivation practically shot too, lol."

Karrin claims, "This is a game, and anything going on in RL is more important. And I will never ask
any of our GLs to shove aside real life... for a game."

Karrin states, "If it becomes something that keeps GL duties from being performed, we can talk then,
too."

Temi states, "And we fully plan to be here when your life allows for it again"

Temi nods in agreement.

Karrin says to Pontifex, "Meant what I said the other day. You're a rockstar for your family, and we
absolutely wish you the best and hope, when you have the time and motivation, to have you back as a
player."

Jiraiya hugs Pontifex.

Pontifex pontificates, "I think my wife and my mother-in-law are more rockstar than me ;P Anyway!

Valora states, "Wish you the best of luck, Pontifex. "

Temi states, "The most we can expect as your duty to TI is that if you can't do a job you've signed
up for, let us know and step out of it."

Karrin claims, "Takes a village, sometimes. And, I don't know them. Hah."

Karrin nods in agreement with Temi.

Karrin says, "Exactly."

Karrin muses, "Alrighty, everyone ready to go back to grid?"

Musketeer says, "All good here"
