Could a "perk" of Merchant membership be we get to bypass the class checks for buying from NPCs? It would make sense - I would mandate it ICly if it was within my power.

I could see it maybe for the GLs, but not rank-and-file merchants. Overall though, I'd suggest looking at it as an opportunity to involve others- if you can't get something, seek out someone who can.

I've always been curious about the RP of going shopping with someone else. I've done it, I enjoy it. But ... this always seems a bit like older sibling buying younger sibling cigarettes while fellow at the counter pretends to be oblivious at watching you exchange money on your way in the door.
