Re: Creating an Immersive RP Experience
Updated to fix the formatting for the light theme. Also broke up some of the longer paragraphs and fixed the formatting on the bullet point lists. The guide's over 6 years old now, but I hope folks (still?) find it useful!

Purchase height
Having played a Lithmorran male of average height for a year, I am now under the impression (possibly mistaken, as I don't have access to the actual numbers) that we have a disproportionate amount of tall people in the game, particularly dudes. Most of the males I encountered, and a good number of f...

Re: System RP Detractors
I don't know if these two minor things qualify as RP detractors, per se, but they've stood out to me as inconsistent, and inconsistency can look "sloppy" or even be a source of mild confusion to new players: 1) Naming conventions for skills. Some skill names still take the form of a verb rather than...

Re: System RP Detractors
- Coded bed objects that you can't sleep on. (Perhaps instead lower quality beds shouldn't give the same MV return, but not being able to sleep on them at all is slightly weird RP wise.) If you see a bed recipe that doesn't allow sleep_on, please typoboard. If it's a notake item in a public place, ...

PAY LIST improvements
Between taxes and assets, there's all kinds of money coming and going directly from folks' bank accounts and none of it is recorded in PAY LIST -- this is not only inconvenient for IC bookkeeping purposes, but it makes all these systems feel really disparate and disconnected from one another. It wou...

Re: System RP Detractors
Rather, I think it should be: "Yes, you can engage in that kind of undermining RP through the rumor system, but you do so at your own risk." Thank you for saying this succinctly in a way I likely rambled about. Welcome! Full disclosure, though? I'm okay with the current system as it stands. I accep...

Re: System RP Detractors
What is or isn't acceptable, beyond gross examples, really comes down to splitting hairs, and I don't think it's the best use of staff time to be engaging in that kind of policing -- either by actively monitoring/moderating rumors, posting things other people wouldn't have IC reason to know, or by ...

Re: System RP Detractors
Once people are aware of what is and isn't acceptable in a rumor, ideally via more staff transparency when removing them (discussing what is and isn't okay on the forums does not help this at all; many people don't come here), then the problem will right itself as people know what they can and can'...

Re: System RP Detractors
Part of the problem with recurring rumors that have already been quashed or reported, unfortunately: if a rumor has been removed from the system, it's impossible for folks to tell unless they were around to see it the first time. As for rumors getting away from the original subject or rumor replies ...

Re: System RP Detractors
Some interesting ideas! In response to Rabek's suggestion of more self-policing and reporting: Rumors are quite subjective, and what may seem like a perfectly legitimate criticism to one person may seem highly unthemely to another. Rumors now also have to fit city metrics, in addition to circles, wh...
