Re: Balance: Knights vs Mages
Kin - I definitely agree. However, there is an innate codewise advantage in the Reeves and Order receiving income through ingame mechanics, and the nobles receiving a huge amount of pay from the immortals that they channel to the other legit guilds as well. I mean, Amethyst blackmailed the Queen, wa...

Re: Balance: Knights vs Mages
This is Amethyst's player. :) I want to prepend this post with the humble admission of not having played for a very, very, very long time. I occasionally pop in to read all the board and IC notes, and chat with friends, so I suppose I have a rough idea of what the current game situation is, but not ...

Re: What rewards you most?
Unearthing secrets, underhanded plots, intriguing twists. I think it was pretty cool back when we first started, there was a hidden alliance or sneaky plot anywhere you turned, you never knew who was double crossing who and what was going on in the sidelines, and you had to keep your cards really cl...

Re: Feedback on new combat system
Oh, I'm definitely not saying the current combat code as a whole is evil, or any such thing. I can see several evident benefits to it already. And really, the ability of one's opponent to stall for a full 5 minutes each combat turn bugs me a lot more than the advantages armor confers. With regards t...

Re: Feedback on new combat system
@ Kinaed: Yes, but steel and iron protect more than leather but with the same MV reduction, correct? What motivation would someone have to wear leather over iron or steel? I was under the impression that drinking recovers moves. It seems like you guys have your minds made up about armor. Fair enough...

Re: Feedback on new combat system
Frankly, Clockwork, I don't see how 'some assassins wear armor' is a valid rebuttal to the 'don't make it such that everyone -must- wear armor to be combat viable' argument. Sure, some assassins wear armor. Sure, there's no reason everyone can't wear armor. But does that mean it is a good idea to fo...

Re: Feedback on new combat system
Besides the fact that I rarely see Jackie Chan wear armor... :D There is probably the appeal of the quiet, sneaky, lethal assassin type (think Hitman or the guy in Assassin's Creed) who doesn't wear armor - the sneak in, get the job done quickly and sneak out type. It is a perfectly valid character ...

Re: Feedback on new combat system
I agree with Tribalware, Jei, and Enix - from what I've seen and heard, armor is far too huge an advantage to give someone. Granted, it costs several thousand silver... but a full set of maxed out combat skills costs maybe 100k xp. With maxed out combat stats, perhaps 150k xp. For someone to spend t...

Re: The Purpose of Nobility, or Lack Thereof
Hrm, tribalware, to be perfectly honest, the last time I played a noble who tried to be a complete stickler for freemen showing IC respect (albeit not in a very nice way ICly, due to her snooty personality), it ended up with a lot of OOC unpleasantness and the Law of Charity being ICly passed. I do ...

Re: Combat Techniques
I like the disarm suggestion, but two things: 1) I think it should be checked against the opponent's weapon skill level. It should, logically IRL as well as game code-wise, be virtually impossible to disarm a grandmaster. Otherwise, disarm is too convenient a way to end a fight really quickly. I als...
