On a balmy Quintilis morning, Her Holy Honor Phyllis ab Syme called the
faithful to the steps of Saint Aewlyn's Cathedral to announce her retirement
from office.  After two years of service within the Holy City, the Orderite
intends to roam the kingdom as an Itinerant Inquisitor, called upon to see to
cases of particular need at the far reaches of the duchies.
 
Having taken a vow of poverty over a decade prior, ab Syme left the city on
foot that same day, carrying nothing but the clothes on her back and a small
rucksack.
 
In her term as Grand Inquisitor, ab Syme saw several dozen pyred and branded.
Knowing this, some people in the populous may well see her again someday. 
Most?  They pray to all that is holy they won't have to.

With the strategy imagined by Cadet Isac Sewyn and set forth by Lord Norrig
op Arcenant, Chief Magistrate of Lithmore, the reeves adopt a mercurial
pattern of patrols.  Each sector of the city appears more decentralised;
groups of reeves in twos sweep the streets seemingly at random, but taking
particular care to hold certain choke points like the City Gates.  For now,
this appears to have taken the criminal elements by surprise -- or at least,
that is what it seems.

Hear ye, hear ye!  Charges brought forward by His Royal Majesty Amir ab
Harmons by the Keeper of the Seal and Lady Seneschal Sibylle dul Fontaine
have been voted and ratified by the Council of Three!  Let all people of
Lithmore know the edicts of the King and the Ducal Council.

Brought before the Council on Charges of Treason and Weakening the Faith,
Roland Beaufort has been found GUILTY and sentenced to DEATH by method of
DRAW AND QUARTERING.  Let this sentence be carried out in the name of the
Crown and the Chalice.  It is the Council of Three's opinion that in ceding
his claim to Celeste, he ceded his claim to her bloodline, and all following
acts were born of treasonous and rebellious intent.  

Brought before the Council on Charges of Refusing the Orders of the Crown,
Ianka ab Harmon von Dusairus has been found to have led with neglect in
correcting her Duchy's stance on Roland and failed to expel him from her
lands at his exile.  In failing this and to meet the King's representatives
for reconciliatory talks, the Duchess of Vandago is called upon to step down
and allow her son, Leopold von Dusairus, to become Duke.  

His Royal Majesty Amir ab Harmons supports the findings of the Council of
Three and declares his full support of their decisions.  They are to be
carried out at once.

After the stepping down of Phyllis ab Syme, the High Synod were quick to find
a replacement so that the Holy Order may continue to root out Taint.  The
successor to the woman is no one else than an inquisitor by the name of
Proxima ab Sidharr, who had been serving in the southern corners of the Duchy
successfully for a few years now.  The Holy Order continues its mission
without pause.

With the city's Reeves on high alert and Lawfulness at an all time high,
rumor has it that Lithmore's dark underbelly has been forced...  Underground.
Underground, and into the arms of the Brotherhood of Common Goods.  The
Tenebrae has reportedly been directing his men to encourage any
non-affiliated criminals to work under his direction or face being left
without any protection or cover when the Reeves come knocking.  The
distribution and flow of drugs and poisons into and within the city has
reportedly been tightened even further, so that the only channels one might
go through to obtain these are through the Brotherhood of Common Goods if one
was to try and look.

A Consequential Influence Event

The frozen chill of the past week has kept many inside, but crowds still
gather around the Lionhart Home to seek the fellowship of one Silvia ab
Lionhart.  The gravid redhead has been listening to everyone: traders
strained by recent diplomatic crisis, servants looking for a sympathetic ear,
high-ranking dignitaries, and even her own late husband's brothers in arms. 
Many leave speaking not only of her well-reasoned policy and level head but
also of her kindness, her hospitality, and her long-standing support for the
city and its people.  Wearing mourning blacks, the widow is often seen in
quiet conversation throughout the city, meeting with guild leaders and
power-brokers.  Over a cup of tea, she has begun to sway hearts and minds.

A Trivial Influence Event

People are still chattering about how Vincent Cooper got up on a soapbox in
the middle of the crossroads and shouted cheerful campaign slogans at folks
going about their distance.  Some of these included 'Southside Stands for
Silvia' and 'Vote One Silvia ab Lionhart: Just what the Doctor Ordered!' by
all accounts the short outburst from Vincent was enthuastic and surprisingly
civil.  He only brought up how the Countess' brother was a traitor in
passing!

On the last day of Octobris, 386, criers go out through the City of Lithmore
calling all the faithful to River Square.  The Justiciar, Lyonie dul Acatsia,
emerged from Ahalin tower with the excommunicated and treasonous Roland ab
Beaufort in tow where he was presented to the gathered crowd.
The Justiciar launched into a description of the man's lineage, his claims,
his crimes, characterizing his uprising and his claims against the Samael
dynasty as nothing more than a petty personal vendetta for the shame that the
former Justiciar and King brought upon his Great Aunt and family.  Though few
in the crowd were likely to have witnessed it, the Justiciar echoed the words
of Queen Caitrin's Lord Regent at the last such execution: "Roland ab
Beaufort led this insurrection against decency, preyed on petty jealousies
and did his level best to divide our unshakable faith, but those who would
think to imitate this course and bring the horrors of disunity, those who
would give it sympathy; I say this: Don't.  Don't even try it.  Our faith
unifies us and keeps us strong.  We will endure and prevail."
The Justiciar then signaled to those who had gathered with her on the
platform, including the Grand Inquisitor and the Chief Magistrate Norrig op
Arcenant who held the fallen nobleman's former title as Baron of Asglen,
Reeve and Orderite alike to secure each of Roland ab Beaufort's limbs to a
length of rope attached to a horse, the horses were driven to move in four
different directions, brutally and horrifically dismembering the disgraced
nobleman.  When the Physicians had verified the death, Lady Justiciar Lyonie
dul Acatsia cleaved the head from what remained of the man's body and rode it
east to the newly renovated Harmon Tower, where the deceased had attempted to
crown himself king on Decembris 21, 377, and planted it on the ramparts.  His
remaining limbs were taken to be delivered to each of the remaining four
duchies with particular instructions that his right hand, with which his
sword was drawn, be delivered for display on the gate of the Vandagan Ducal
Palace.

An Ostentatious Influence Event

The powerful sentiment seems to have originated from Lithmore's Judicial
Council but it spreads throughout various city institutions: Reeves, Clerks,
Embassy staff, civil bureaucrats and functionaries, doctors, jurists,
professors, even many members of the lay clergy the cogs of the Law, the
Council, and charitable civil service.  Those who have a day to day hand in
government seem to have rallied: Lithmore needs a familiar face, a leader who
can navigate the city through its established obligations and the
professional class of the state seems to trust a familiar and steady face to
guide them through the process of political reconciliation and religious
unity.  The resounding consensus throughout this educated professional class
seems to be that Doctor ab Lionhart is the clearly prefered figure, and the
pressure they quietly assert on the affairs of state begins to manifest
itself even if no one organization has offered up an endorsement.

Royal weddings are never quick or cheap, and the brewing of talk about the
union of the Vavardi Ducal House with Amir ab Harmons has long been bubbling
- a potential betrothal to the Duke's daughter, Lady Cristiana Micheline dul
Acris.  Now at last complete thanks to the newly appointed Ambassador to
Vavard, Poet Laudate Theodora op Arcenant, the contracts have been signed and
the city is abuzz with preparations for the event.  Most active among the
Ducal Courts, His Grace dul Acris has lent his support to His Royal Majesty
in both force at arms and at the Council of Three.  The Vavardi Duke answered
the Seneschal's arguments with passion and certainty - and why not?  The
absence of Vandago at the table has allowed the Vavardi Court to make vast
gains.

It was likely no surprise that the Tubori were angling for a chance to avenge
themselves on Vandago, and it seemed unlikely that the increasingly isolated
people would refrain from using the Vandagan Split as anything but
justification for their privateering and plundering.  At the King's
direction, though, the newly named Ambassador to Tubor, Grand Magnate Naomi
le Kanemali, was able to negotiate not just peace and support, but new
avenues of participation in trade and politics for the Tubori people. 
Argvard's Canal has been granted to the Tubori people to manage, and this
removed barrier opens a new ocean and new connections for the sea-faring
Islanders.  It is no wonder Beatrix le Strongjaw was seen as a steadfast
supporter of Amir ab Harmons in the Council of Three.

The transition of ownership has proved tense.  Already Duchess Beatrix has
enacted new policies prefential to her own traders, and there has been a
surge in Tubori-owned expeditions through the canal - at the expense of the
Vandagans who previously facilitated such things.  Fights have broken out
between Tubori and Vandagans, and Tubori have been barred from many of the
facilities along the canal.  Nonetheless, many have taken advantage of the
new policies, despite the downsides, to much anticipation among Tubor and
Vavard.

A Majestic Influence Event

Many carts and wagons have been transporting generous donations all around
town recently, sharing food supplies, winter apparel and blankets with local
almhouses and other charitable causes.  With Yule creeping closer and closer,
folk are reminded by the Merchants - who share these gifts - that we must
look to one another for support and to always lend a hand to those in need,
especially in these coming months.  When such reminders are made often one of
the candidates for Seneschal is mentioned as an exemplary figure, high praise
given to the countless good works Miss ab Lionhart has done in and around the
capital.  The Guild highly values Baccanite traditions, and while they
provide repairs and tinkering to those who need it - be they members of
Southside or citizens of the Northern parts of Lithmore -it's these
traditions the members of the Guild claim they are inspired to embody by none
other than Miss ab Lionhart.

A Modest Influence Event

Although the Holy Order of Dav has never made an official stance on which
candidate they endorse, it is well known that each individual member, be it
an inquisitor, priest, knight or acolyte, is allowed to support whichever
candidate they wish.  One such group of Orderites hailing from the Countess'
home domain of Beresfield have publicly come forward with their backing. 
Citing the Countess' success with her religious duties, they hope that the
Countess can ensure political unity...  While the Holy Order of Dav continues
their holy duties of protecting religious harmony.

In the weeks following the execution of Roland ab Beaufort, the Reeves
concluded the trials and questioning of many of the other prisoners of war
held by the Crown, some since the siege of Casterlay.  Most low ranking
officers levied into service were pardoned and sent back to their home
baronies while ranking officers, chevaliers, and anyone found in service of
the traitor armies from otherwise loyalist baronies were executed.

At the end of the process the Justiciar brought yet another figure out onto
the dias, and with the same fiery, unforgiving tone with which she dispatched
Roland ab Beaufort reads a long list of crimes of the former Count of
Amhurst, Anschel ab Loguire.  She includes the same characterization that she
laid on Roland: petty dynastic jealousies stretching back to the elder
Loguire's laughable bid for the throne and personal antipathies against then
Justiciar Tobin ab Samael, mismanagement and impoverishment of his home
county which he attempted to lay at the feet of the Crown, and ultimately
treason for which he deserved to die a traitor's death by drawing and
quartering.  Concluding: "Consortion with sin is sin, with treason is
treason.  Mercy is not the duty of mankind, but of the Lord, and we submit
ourselves to His wisdom under His gaze." 

The Justiciar looked on unblinking and severe as the Reeves tied the man's
limbs to the horses and set them off moving in different directions, bringing
a swift end to the bloody work before the respite and forgiveness of the Yule
Holiday.

With the upcoming and much-anticipated royal wedding on the horizon, the Lord
Earl Marshall Lans ab Durandal seeks a display of loyalty and unity for the
citizenship to witness.  The Knights have been a regrettable part of much
that has transpired in the past four years, and it is time to turn the
page.

Soon word begins to spread, requesting caparisons for the coursers (the
'banners' enveloping the barding), troubadours to excite the davite flock,
priests to conduct blessings on the knight swords, and baskets of flowers to
throw.  All intended for a grand knight parade to take place down King's
Concourse!  

All current Grandmasters, their knights and squires of all duchies are
invited to take place and parade, visit the Holy City and it's sights, join a
communal mass in the Cathedral and partake in games, tourneys, poetry
contests and a joust or two.  The event is meant to show duchal unity in the
Knighthood and 'bring' the faces of Davism's guardians to their charges.

Subject: The Grand Knight Parade takes over Lithmore!

The Grand Knight Parade is a success!

An event like these had not been seen in at least a generation.  Columns of
mounted, pristine knights from all duchies in armor take over King's
Concourse, with their cloaks flowing and their coats of arms on proud
display.  The stern fariners are followed by the charming tuboris, the plumed
vavardis by the spartan vandagans -- with the proud lithmorrans at the fore
and rear, and the Lord Earl Marshall leading the whole procession, grim but
inmaculate in his bloodred armor, flanked by the duchal Grandmasters.  People
of all walks of life cheer and throw flower petals in the path of the
knights, who move from the North Gate to Saint Aelwyn's cathedral for a mass
dictated by the Archbishop, Her Eminence Raylene ab Almassin.

Afterwards things get looser!  The visiting men and women take their time for
some sightseeing, accompanied by troubadour guides.  Tavern owners and stall
vendors offer or gift wares and products to these distant patrons, reeves
issue challenges for friendly spars; the knights from different duchies also
compete with one another.

The knights remain in the Holy City of Lithmore for a few weeks, in which all
quarters suffer this contagious form of davite brotherhood.

With the preparations in place, announcements begin to resound as to the
impending Royal Wedding coming up in recent months.  It seems well on track
to end up occurring this year, as palace staff to finalize the details.  The
rumors speak that it will be accompanying a formal, public coronation with
the union within Saint Aelwyn's Cathedral, with a feast to ensue in honor of
the new royal couple back at the palace's Great Hall.

The soon-to-be union of Lady Cristiana dul Acris, daughter of the Duke of
Vavard, and His Royal Majesty, King Amir ab Harmon, seems to be almost in
play.  It seems expected that the Vavardi will be met with due pomp, but will
it satisfy?

The previous record of marriages and their outcome within the ab Samael line
might hold heavy above the minds of some.  Security certainly seems to have
been aggressively tight for it.

Only time will tell the outcome.

With a deafening silence following a succesful Seneschal election, the
opinion surrounding Cassilda ab Montendore's leadership has suffered
steadily.  Murmurs of discontent surround her relationship with the
merchants.

The former Seneschal and Chief Magistrate of the Reeves, Baron of Asglen
Norrig op Arcenant, pens letters to the guild leaders, dukes and the King
himself: the kingdom needs an active and popular Seneschal!  He goes around
pounding on doors and breaching into meetings to get what he wants!

A call goes throughout southside and the surrounding areas as servants pass
by speaking about the job sponsored by the countess ab Flewelling.  They say
she will hire any and all willing people in need to come repair the roads and
bridges throughout the city in exchange for free food and coin.  She calls
upon physicians to make sure that those working to see to their health.  To
the merchants she sends for the finest cooks and brewers to supply good food
and drink to the workers.  To the troubadours she asks for entertainment to
bring up the morale of the workers.  To the priests she calls upon that they
might pray for a good outcome and to bless the workers.  To the reeves she
calls upon to keep order.  And to the knights she asks to help organize and
keep the workers pious in their work to better the city.

With the Lithmorran forces on the Daravi border facing increased Daravi
activity, word has the forces gathering to make coordinated plans - to hold
off the Daravi or to get the jump on then.  A group of messengers has arrived
from the border to gather up the last few volunteers that they can find
before actions are kicked off.

(Infrastructure shifts up from Substandard to Ordinary.) It seems that things
are afoot in the Town Hall.  Shortly after Lady ab Flewelling announced her
project to fix the roads, an announcement came from the seat of government in
support of the measure.  Clerks that have otherwise been sitting around idle
have begun to handle the paperwork required for the infrastructure renewal. 
Rumor is that the new Lord Seneschal is behind the act.

The sound of hammering and the movement of cartloads of stone pass through
the city as people work on the roads.  Time passes and the roads have been
repaired as well as the bridges.  Moss is scrubbed off abandoned places. 
Bridges are checked and rechecked.  Streets are swept and an heir of
scrubbed, repaired clean look fills the city from north to south gate.  The
servants pass through the streets thanking all who have helped either by
working on the roads or supporting the workers in some way.  The countess ab
Flewelling rides through the streets touring the repaired roads followed by
her entourage.  Directing the people to an open field she has a feast to once
again thank those for repairing the roads.

Every year the ravidoroa butterfly, roughly "blue opal" translated from the
Vandagan, migrates between the Farin mountains and those of Vandago.  Due to
the relative inaccessibility of their home regions, the migration is
considered the best time to capture the butterflies, prized for the vivid,
iridescent blue pigment of their wings.  An unseasonably early heat in the
Farin mountains has set off the migration early this year, and the different
wind patterns from the early season have brought them once again through the
lands surrounding the capital.  An odd assortment of people have arrived in
their wake as well, attempting to collect butterflies, offering to pay for
ones that the locals catch, and, in some cases, peddling their own wares. 
Several have set up camp out west from the city for the few days the insects
will be in the area, their tents scattered across the fields.  Some are
apparently offering butterfly nets to anyone who asks, hoping to entice them
into collecting for them.

OOC:

Acquire butterfly objects by using the use command while holding a net in the
room with a butterfly mob.  Give butterfly objects to the NPCs for results -
each NPC will have different results.  Butterfly objects will not last long
term.

Update: The last of the iridescent blue butterflies have made their way

Hollow Globe, instead making themselves present in the Bear and Boar, the
Horse, the Queen's, and the Bluebird.  Tips are, of course, always encourged
but not required as troupe members seek to ease the discomforts in the hearts
of the Citizens of Lithmore and raise their morale.

Subject: Daravi Incursion Foiled at Fort Latago

For the last few months, tensions have been mounting along the southern
border of the Kingdom, with the hated Daravi steadily increasing their
aggression.  Those who responded to the call of duty to serve along the
border have returned to Lithmore, with news of victory!

Though much of the news brought by the soldiers and commands is garbled due
to repetition and distance, one thing of note that all the tales seem to
agree upon is that of Fort Latago.

Early in the campaign, the Daravi's small forces were easily repelled and
hunted down, until suddenly, a massive army appeared as if from nowhere,
fright on top of Fort Latago, the mighty keep that held the Latago Pass in
between Cort and Persela!  The Lithmorran commanders scrambled for
reinforcements to reach the keep on time, for the Daravi's numbers were truly
enormous.  Tales of cavalry thundering across the desert, gambits to sneak
supply wagons into the Fort, and reinforcements braving the Daravi side of
the desert to reach Latago in time are rife; and seem to have borne fruit, as
the delays culminated with a mighty battle fought before Fort Latago, with
the Daravi trapped between the Fort's defenders and the Lithmorran
reinforcements attacking their rear; a battle which ended in the Daravi's
defeat and retreat back across the desert, leaving all three of the passes
firmly within Lithmorran control.

Rumors also persist that the only reason Fort Latago held was due to the
heroic sacrifice of one brave group of soldiers, calling themselves the
Revenants, who tricked the Daravi in some way and hindered their siege, at
the cost of their own lives...

Asglen was caught unprepared for the rising threat of the Silver Horde
warband.  The militia was ill equipped and ill trained to counter such

and provisions from the Lithmore City shops.  Incidentally, this should
likely influence the local economy if succesful.

transport, though he seems to have some other final plan in mind for them... 
In either case, the influx of transportation has boosted the infrastructure
of the city.

with the public, while those who are less friendly are relegated to
behind-the-scenes administrative roles; the practical upshot of which is that
dealing with someone representing the city has gotten a whole lot more
pleasant, for the most part.  Small effects of this have been felt in the
city's morale...  At least among those who deal with city officials.

quarters of town.  People appeared invigorated and motivated once the dust
finally settled.

streets.

The caravan-building workyards so recently established by the Lord Seneschal
have suddenly shifted into overtime, with the Lord Seneschal himself
announcing a large project to bring aid to the recently invaded Asglen.

The main thrust of the project itself is to build a fleet of caravans using
those workyards, which will then be loaded down with food, seed, clothing and
building materials; all of which is to be used to help rebuild Asglen in the
wake of the Silver Horde.  The Lord Seneschal also indicated that, once the
caravans reach Asglen and deliver their contents, they shall be put into
permanent use for Lithmore's infrastructure, bringing benefit to both regions
of the Kingdom.

Consequently, a certain very large blonde Seneschal has been seen around the
city, seeking donations and outright purchasing supplies when that fails, in
an attempt to gather what is needed before the caravans are set to leave.

From the City of Lithmore, a large fleet of caravans emerge, loaded down with
supplies, trundling along towards Asglen.  Containing large amounts of food
and seed for planting, the intended use of the caravan was to aid Asglen in
rebuilding after the devastation wrought by the Silver Horde, and in this
respect, it seems to have aided.

Word comes to the capital that the caravans have distributed what they
brought as evenly as possible across the Barony.  Travelers speak of the
common people of Asglen taking to the fields with the seeds, to restore their
previously burnt crops now that Spring is here.  In the meantime, the
caravans and wagons have returned to Lithmore, and been placed into
transportation service, to the benefit of the city's infrastructure.

its way to Church Square, where the crowd was dispersed for the Lord to
terminate his journey to the capital with a visit to the cathedral and town
hall.

visit the duchy they have been learning of and be hosted there by locals.  It
is the intent of the program that these ambassadors will share their

abuzz with a minor initiative undertaken by the Lord Seneschal; hirings have

season), but the pay for streetsweepers has reportedly taken a substantial
hike to compensate for that.  The resultant extra sweepers roaming around the
city are doing their part in keeping the streets clear of debris, which has a
minor positive effect on the city's infrastructure, and a major positive
effect on how clean the streets look.

While the furthering of the young lady's education in the urban Capital of
Lithmore stands as a manifest intention, rumors in varied circles speculate
over background negotiations and tentative agreements concerning her future:
an intended marriage is surely on the horizon, but will it materialize as an
alliance cemented in consolidation of wealth, or of noble title?  It's
anyone's guess, especially given lowly whispered tales of Baron ab
Silvermore's increasingly eccentric tendencies over the last few years since
his wife's passing.

The Queen has birthed an heir.  Magebane draws nigh.  The season of Yule is
just around the corner.  Plenty cause for celebration.  To help uplift the
spirits of the citizenry, and share in celebration of the birthing of an heir
to the throne, the Marquis of Bastion has sent word home, imploring many
performers and musicians to set sail from Farin and make for the capital. 
Here, in cooperation and under supervision of the local Troupe, they aim to
help rally morale and spread festive song and tale all throughout the city. 
From bands of drummers to help ward off evil spirits during Magebane, to
hosts of singers and musicians to liven up the atmosphere in Lithmore's many
taverns and gathering spots, the goal is to remedy civil unrest and unease
via renewed morale.  Bad morale leads to many negatives, after all, from an
increase to criminality, apathy towards reporting potential crime and heresy,
general acedia, and so on.

Meanwhile, various local figures of import, prominence, and authority are
also sought for and sollicited, their aid invaluable to spread the cheer
around the city.  Additional guardsmen are bound to be needed, keeping those
that take their celebrations onto the streets in check, or the assistance of
acolytes to help distribute the donations for the lesser-fortunate during
these colder months, for example.  Brewers, gourmands, aspiring performers,
street peddlers, bar-hands, and so on; Many walks of life are called for.

quite a lot of wheels.  They seem to be being stockpiled near a warehouse in
the western area of the city; busted carts and wagons are pulled into one

Seemingly overnight, lengthy notifications have gone up on message boards all
throughout the town, seeming to be from the Lord Seneschal to the entire
city.  The notices are almost everywhere, and they read the following:

To All Citizens of Lithmore, both those within and without the walls of the
City, let it be known that the Crown and the Church are, in joint effort and
collaboration, seeking the strange newts and bronze armbands emblazoned with
the newt that have appeared here in the City.  Citizens are informed that one
of these armband-associated newts is still at large in the city, and are of
extreme importance.  Should any lawful and faithful citizen of Lithmore see
this newt, they are hereby commanded by both Crown and Church to deliver it
and its armband to the Holy Order; or, should that not be possible, it may be
delivered to the Lord Seneschal personally to be passed on to the Holy Order.
Under no circumstances are citizens to harm the newt in any way.  Citizens
are furthermore commanded not to wear the armband should it be discovered,
lest taint fall upon you.

Any Citizen of Lithmore whom discovers this Newt, its armband, or preferably
both, and delivers them safe and whole to either the Holy Order or the Lord
Seneschal shall be awarded with a bounty of two thousand (2000) silver
crowns.  Citizens with information that leads to the discovery of this Newt,
its armband, or preferably both, are commanded to deliver such information to
the Holy Order and the Lord Seneschal, and will additionally be awarded a
similar bounty.

A tale is repeated in every tavern and place of gathering, murmured with
concern: on a cold early evening, a particular carriage with a particular
escort leaves Lithmore City, headed southeast.  The pace is not remarkable. 
This is unfortunate, for this carriage is ambushed in the dead of night by a
group of cloaked figures.  The escorts are quickly, too quickly overwhelmed
and butchered.

From within the carriage, an old woman desperately tries to flee into the
forest, carrying a precious cargo against her chest.  She is intercepted, and
her screaming protestations are muffled with a solid punch to the temple. 
The cargo, however, screams as well, in a high pitched tone.  Yet no one
dares to harm this one, for any reason, no matter the cost.

The source of this rumor is rumored to be a single, injured escort survivor
who limped back to town.  It is the identity of the baby that chills the
bones of those who care to listen.  The worst, the unthinkable has seemingly
happened: Prince Garath Cecil ab Harmons has been kidnapped.

No statement is sent from the Royal Palace for now, but mail begins to pour
out in droves.

working in much closer cooperation than normal, with the former generally
taking direction from the latter.  The guardsmen don't seem particularly
pleased about this, given the minor rivalries that guardsmen and lawmen all
over have for each other, but they're doing it anyway.  Popular word is that
this arrangement has come from the Lord Seneschal, who commanded the Crown's
guards to assist the Reeves whenever possible.  For example, the guardsmen
seem to be paying very close attention to who is coming and going from the
city...

From out of the City Hall and the Reeves Headquarters comes a large scale
effort; this time aimed at education and public information.  Of a sort,
anyway.  The Lord Seneschal and the Proconsul seem to be working together to
assemble teams of scribes and Reeves, who post notices and speak in person in
public squares and to individuals whom approach them, all seeming to turned
towards warning the public against the dangers of various scams.

Fake land deals, counterfeit goods passed off as genuine, strongarming and
protection rackets, and even your long lost uncle in Farin who wants your
bank account details to store his ill-gotten riches in until he can get back
to Lithmore; all these and more are elaborated upon by those sent forth by
the Lord Seneschal and the Proconsul, including ways to spot them coming and
advisement to avoid answering them.  Curiously enough, the superlative nature
of this information also just so happens to cover the extortion letters that
some are rumored to have received lately...  But that must surely just be a
coincidence, right?

In either case, in public information campaign is aimed at raising public
awareness, and getting people to bring such matters to the Reeves, which
would work wonders for the city's lawfulness.

The Missing Children

Thanks to the diligent efforts of a number of individuals across the city, it
was determined that five missing children had come across a stock of magical
jewelry that had transformed them into newts when they wore them. 
Thankfully, all of the newt-children were discovered, but it was not until
Januarius 389 that they were able to be restored to their natural form in an
Order-led ceremony, surrounded by the children's parents and the citizens who
had helped to recover them.  Following the successful ceremony, the children
were returned to their parents, and the Seneschal granted tokens of gratitude
to those who had helped to recover them.

Trouble down the Bren

In every port along the Bren, ships with tubori crews are stopped and
searched entirely by reeves and crown officials.  Their goal appears to be
certain specific passengers.  The interdicted crews, their captains and their
officers are outraged, and trade is slowed somewhat.

Scams Kick the Can

It seems that the information campaign conducted by the Reeves and the Lord
Seneschal is paying dividends; after all, who wants to have their hard earned
silver snatched away by some clever trickster?  People from all around the
city have begun to bring reports of various scams, seldom falling for them
themselves.  For the time being, it seems that public trust in the Reeves has
risen, and people are being more lawful as a result.

Enemy at the Gates

On a cold morning, travellers arriving to Lithmore City find double guard
detachments on every gate.  They seem to be focusing on interrogating the
Farin newcomers, asking them all sorts of questions and examining their
attire, davite icons and other minutiae closely.  Some are even interrogated
on basic matters of the faith, to the consternation of those such accosted. 
No one is certain what is the reason behind this, but when prompted, the
Reeves reply that the orders come from the Lord Seneschal himself.

A Dance of Blossoms

Given the bitter tensions around the city foreign quarters due to the armed
triads pouring in from a certain duchy who Shan't Be Named, and hoping to
coincide with Spring Awakening, the Baron of Asglen, Norrig op Arcenant, puts
down his name to encourage the Troubadours to organise (at their Treasury's
expense, of course) public dance lessons from all over the kingdom.  He even
offers himself as a teacher, the old man.  The best dancers in the city, his
lady wife included, are invited to several public areas in the foreign
quarters and Paarin park for a few demonstrations from all corners of the
realm.

Jade Bandanas Wanted: Dead or Alive!

The city's Islanders grow tired of how the triad's actions have sullied their
name! In response the city's sailors have banded together to take action
where others have not: a bounty has been set! Two hundred silver coins are
offered in exchange for EACH Jade Arrow bandana delivered. They speak openly
of having a deep chest of coin to pull from and an explicit willingness to
pay out for as many bandanas as can be delivered to them!

For any out of the know the sailors will explain: beat a Jade Arrow member
bloody---or to death if you've it in you---in order to acquire the Jade Arrow
bandanas they ask after.

The Tubori sailors can be parlayed with at The River Bren's East Docks.

The Royal Prince Recovered from the Jade Arrow

The City of Lithmore was shook today with momentous events.  Citizens paused
to hear strange noises of battle echoing up from under the streets, only to
later dive for cover near the Cathedral when a mage revealed themselves to
attack a strangely dressed woman.  Rumors swirl about these attacks being
linked to the Jade Arrow and their recent abduction of the Prince, and
confirmation comes soon after when a party consisting of the Lord Seneschal,
the Lady Laudate, the Lady Justiciar, the Poet Knight, the Proconsul, and the
Prime Medicus walked out of the Cathedral, all of them armored and most
covered in gore, the Laudate bearing a small child in her arms.  The group
commandeered a carriage, which soon trundled out the northern gate, last seen
headed towards the Royal Palace.

His Royal Highness, the Prince, has been recovered from the Jade Arrow; and
while details of how that was accomplished are sketchy and not yet widely
known, teams of Reeves have hauled a large number of Jade Arrow members up
out of the sewers in the northwestern part of the city, both living and dead.
Some of the rumors, however, suggest that the leaders of the gang may have
made a hasty escape...

Dances bloom over town

It is a festive time across the city, the Jade Arrow has been defeated and
the Prince, recovered.  It is time to celebrate across all the quarters! 
Tuboris with long, colorful skirts impress passerbys in long processions
through Church Square.  Another day, Vandagan ballets sprout in the Vavardi
quarter.  Elsewhen, vavardi voltas make Fariners blush in lower Montford
Square.

With the support of city leaders and nobility, the Dance of Blossoms
blooms.

The Jade Arrow Declared Enemies of the Crown & Bounties Issued!

On the heels of the tumultuous and violent events that saw a return of the
Prince, comes an official announcement from the Town Hall.  As one of his
last official acts in office, Andorig ab Nesmith, the Lord Seneschal,
declares that the group known as the Jade Arrow, for committing the
unforgivable crimes of directly attacking the Royal Family, treating and
dealing with heretical Daravi, harming Lithmore's people, and overall being a
menace to society, are forever more branded Enemies of the Crown. Let no man
or woman of the Kingdom render them aid or succor, nor shall violence done
against the Jade Arrow be considered a crime, and membership with the group
is now a crime punishable by death.

Furthermore, the Lord Seneschal declares that a bounty will be offered for
the capture, dead or alive, of the two Jade Arrow leaders: Quiver and
Fletcher. Should a faithful and lawful man or woman of the Kingdom capture
and deliver one or both of these men to the authorities, they shall be paid a
sum of four thousand silver per man. Should a member of the Jade Arrow
display contrition and regret for their deeds by capturing and bringing their
leaders to the authorities, then that member shall receive a pardon from the
Crown.

Opening of Confessor's Alley

On Maius 22nd 389, the Bear and Boar Tavern on South Road reopened after
several weeks of construction work.  It reportedly boasts a new basement
level public room, called the Bear's Den.  The changes at the Bear and Boar
come in concert with a larger development, however: the establishment of a
new entertainment district on the connecting road.  Lord Gideon ab Grenefeld,
King Amir's so-called left-hand man and a member of Iglisrich's noble family,
has taken credit for creation of the district, calling it Confessor's Alley,
and has expressed his interest that it be a welcoming location for those from
all walks of life who wish to enjoy the finer points of life.  The new
businesses include a gambling hall and bordello, and Abel's pawnshop has
reportedly moved in.  Not directly said, but strongly implied, was that the
district would police itself to maintain its own standards of acceptable
behaviors, and that the Reeves should expect to visit as guests, not on duty.
Mages, on the other hand, were explicitly called out as unwelcome.

The Great Northern Road

One pleasant spring morning four ships from the Garod Trading Company slipped
up to the largest port in Beresfield.  On board were not trade goods, but a
compliment of penal indentured laborers, engineers, and two massive dredging
nets.  Days later a caravan of similar composition enters the city of
Seringale from the east with carts of stone, heading south and re-paving as
they go.  In Lithmore city proper a call goes out for laborers and economic
support to renovate roads into and out of the capital city rutted by winter
and several years of use and wear.  The effort, as with many previous
efforts, seems to originate in the Northwatch domains, particularly Amhurst
and Sunset, as an extension of what can only now be described as a concerted
shift in policy towards the formerly neglected region, integrating the public
infrastructure of the region with the Brenlands' and the capital's.

Royal Court

The Royal Palace has released a statement that King Amir will be holding open
court at the palace on Augustus 4th 389.  All citizens in good standing will
be welcome, though the masses will be searched with only the nobility and
those in their service entitled to carry weaponry. Though there will be time
for those among the nobility who have not yet sworn fealty to His Majesty in
person, those who have done so previously will not need to repeat the
process.  The King is expected to welcome his new seneschal and thank those
who assisted in the rescue of his son, and he will receive petitioners.

The Great Northern Road, Realized

The roads in the capital have seen extensive labor done to them, imported
Vandagan stone finding its way even into Lithmore's southside.  The trade
route through Wilhelm and Seringale recieving especial attention, tying the
formerly fractious Northwatch domains more closely to the heart of the
Brenlands, signaling a new attention to formerly neglected realms.  Several
of Lithmore's disused ports on the Dralth are freshly dredged for
accomodating vessels of deeper draft.  Resources from the kingdom's coffers
and administration and the Barony of Asglen help to broaden the scope of
projects until at last, civil engineers long occupied in the north and now in
the capital can return home to rest and ply their honed skills in their home
domains.  All this accompanies a withdraw of irregularly high Reeve presences
from the County of Amhurst, seeming to signal a change in policy.

Quartering of Fletcher, Leader of the Jade Arrow

The remaining Leader of the criminal group named the Jade Arrow, Alex
Faalelai also know as Fletcher was charged with high treason for planning and
executing the kidnapping of His Highness Prince Garath Cecil ab Harmons.  The
criminal was drawn and quartered on the afternoon of August 8th SC 389,
kicking off a month of executions as all other Jade Arrow members in the
custody were hung for treason.

Welcome to the first issue of The Harlequin's Herald where you are given the
latest gossip and news surrounding our dear Lithmore City and its occupants. 
Let's start this off with juicy tidbits all around.  

A Majestic Spectacle

The King held Court and in the efficient fashion of his Royal Majesty, King
Amir ab Harmons, it went by in a flash, with the King awarding pins to the
brave men and women who saved his son, Prince Garath ab Harmons, from the
clutches of the Jade Arrow.  Former Seneschal, Mister Andorig ab Nesmith was
awarded his pin personally by his Royal Majesty and was given the duty of
pining the others which included Lady Laudate Theodora op Arcenant, Lady
Justiciar Lyonie dul Acatsia, Proconsul Isac ab Selwyn, Prime Medicus Delana
de Verdugo (not in attendance), Squire Drystan ab Rhynalt, Poet Knight Dyrian
op Jetorius, Mister Antoine dul Arcenant, and Bard Paithoon op Permin (not in
attendance).

Mister Andorig ab Nesmith has not been seen in the public eye as of late
since his term as Seneschal ended.  It is suggested it is so the former
Seneschal can ease back into his daily life after his eventful term, but
there is also rumor that a letter with a mocking poem was sent out to Council
members from a figure calling himself, 'The Fool' that sent Mister ab Nesmith
into hiding.  When asked if the Troubadours were responsible for this letter,
they firmly denied involvement, saying 'The Fool' was not a Troubadour but
they were happy to have the mystery poet if they would like to apply for an
apprenticeship.

Further news from the Court showed that Lord Stanley ab Loguire arrived to
give fealty to his Royal Majesty to the disappointment of Seneschal Estone le
Serlok who made it very clear that he would like to see the Lord, previously
suspected of treason, head on a spike.  Despite the questionably challenging
demeanor of Lord ab Loguire, his Royal Majesty accepted his vow of fealty
with the warning that he would be watching.
 
Courtly Desserts
You would think that would be eventful enough, but Court ended with our
favorite dessert of who is in be-...I mean, in courtship with who.  Today's
Courtship of the hour was Sir Lans ab Durandal, Lithmore's own black widower,
with at least three former wives deceased, stating he was now in courtship
with newly appointed Lady Chancellor Silvia ab Lionhart.  Formerly married to
Grand Master Emicho Lionhart, a knight underling of Sir ab Durandal, who died
an untimely death on a mission given by the former Earl Marshal.  Rumors
abound about the match, but I for one wish Mistress ab Lionhart good luck and
hope she doesn't befall the curse.
 
Speaking of future marriages, rumor has it that Lady Ionica ab Silvermore and
Lord Xei ab Sevoi are engaged.  Further research shows that no Banns have
been currently posted so whether the engagement has been approved by the
Order is still in question.  
 
The Court of the South
Word out of Southside is that one Vincent 'Vinnie' Cooper was given quite the
send-off at Saint Danijel's with a funeral overseen by Mother Oresen.  Rather
impassioned eulogies were offered for the man by his cousin Gibby, that
libertine brother of the Laudate, and two figures believed to be the
leadership of the Brotherhood.  Sources say that the Proconsul himself was in
attendance, and the Lady Justiciar was later spotted lamenting at the Bear
and Boar that she wasnt given a similar invitation.  The Lord Chief
Magistrate was notably not in attendance with the rest of the family.
 
A Roaring Good Time
In other news, Lord Sano le Kawahi, son of Baron Malifa le Kawahi, will be
arriving to Lithmore City and bringing his wandering zoo and animal show,
'Tail and Teeth.' Expected arrival will be in late Augustus and will be open
for people to see and meet his pets.  A performance for the Crown Prince's
birthday will take place a week or two later.

Wandering Menagerie 'Tail and Teeth' arrives!

A large caravan in gay colors is spotted one afternoon passing around the
north-western city walls.  People from all duchies seem to be accompanying
the wagons of which many are draped in thick canvas behind which strange
noises can be heard at times - growling, roaring, trumpeting and honking. 
The caravan makes camp at the Faire grounds and soon tents are erected with
an efficiency that suggests practice.  A few days after messengers in
colorful garments march through the city and announce the arrival and opening
of the famed traveling menagerie "Tail and Teeth" under the patronage of Lord
Sano le Kawahi.

The unthinkable happened: At some point during or before the animal show of
the wandering menagerie "Tail and Teeth", almost all animals escaped.  Tigers
and Camels, Zebras and Monkeys and Parrots and Bears, even an Elephant - they
all roam in or around the city.  Rumor has it that a reward is promised for
every animal brought back alive and a lesser reward for every animal dead
animal thats returned.

Seneschal le Serlok steps down

After what was an energetic and promising start, Lord Seneschal Estone le
Serlok's tenure as right hand of the King was cut short when the veteran
tubori was taken out of action by illness.  With a long recovery ahead of
him, he has preferred to tend his resignation and allow someone else to carry
the torch for the time being.  The King has accepted le Serlok's decision and
is now ready for the next Seneschal.

The Harlequin's Herald #2

Welcome to the second issue of The Harlequin's Herald!  And we have numerous
thing to share about our beautiful and dangerous Lithmore City.  

A Jungle in the City

As many of you are aware, Tail and Teeth's animals escape from their cages
and roam the city.  So far 2 tigers, 2 monkey, an elephant, and several bird
have been wrangled up by, surprisingly enough, a group of Charali.  Though
sources couldn't identify who specifically was involved from the Charali
group we do know it least that half-Charali Sarathi Ranthen was involved with
most of the captures.  Not to be outdone, our own Lady Laudate Theodora op
Arcenant, Proconsul Isac ab Selwyn, and Mister Andorig ab Nesmith have also
helped in the capture of these wild beasts.  

Lord Sano le Kawahi has offered a reward for the capture of his animals
alive.  Posters have been posted around town.  

Sabotage of the Wild Things

But that isn't all!  The freedom of the beast might have been done on
purpose.  There are numerous suspects to disgruntle employees, bitter rivals,
and possible magery.  Magery?  Why yes!  A letter from the former Briar of
the Woods has made it rounds among the important people in the city with
threats of punishment if the animals are harmed.  Too bad the same wasn't
directed to tea animal as at least one casualty was had in Southside.  

A Beastly Party

The Troubadours and Merchant hosted another successful Magebane event.  Food,
decorations, and even a firedancer.  The highlight of the evening was a
dancing game which involved our very own Proconsul ending his dance with a
twisted ankle.  As the party came to its close, strange sounds could be heard
and suddenly two monkeys dashed through the party.  The monkeys were
eventually captured with the help of several Charali, the Lady Laudate, and
the Proconsul.  

Wintery Vows

Perhaps it's the danger of the moment, with animals literally taking a bite
out of people, but a slew of Banns have been posted.  The first of which
involves former Archbishop Raylene ab Almassin and Trademaster Radomir von
Kazakov.  Rumors of a romance between the two have flitted around since their
appearance at the disembowlement of the former Jade Arrow.  Though no
official Banns have been posted in Lithmore there is suspicion an elopement
might be in progress.  

The second couple to see Banns is Sir Lans ab Durandal and former Chancellor
Silvia ab Lionhart.  Despite harsh rumors, the couple's devotion endured and
they officially posted first banns in front of the St.  Alweyn's Cathedral.

With the new vacancy in the Seneschal seat after Estone le Serlok's
departure, the King has, in his usual mind for quick results, provisionally
began transferring power to the only candidate so far: Lady Theodora op
Arcenant, the current Poet Laudate.  While proper protocols and formalities
must still be observed, the process appears to be over in all but name.

TL; DR: Theodora is the new Seneschal, though the bids process continues on
auto-pilot.

Released from Ahalin

Selemy dul Alba has been released from Ahalin by Proconsul Isac ab Selwyn on
1st of January 390.  She had been confined under suspicion of treason by
helping Roland ab Beaufort in his rebellion with funds.  Ultimately the
investigation concluded with Selemy being declared not guilty due to lack of
evidence.  Her confinement in Ahalin and an extra fine of the same sum she
supposedly gave to Roland were deemed punishment for lying and impeding an
investigation of the Reeves in the name of the Crown.

What the Hex!

Proprietress of The Paarin Park Cafe and former Archbishop, Raylene ab
Almassin, found herself bewitched by magery in the middle of her cafe.  An
unnatural coldness emitted from her body and she was sent shaking and
shivering.  In the midst of the horrific event, Magnate Radomir von Kazakov
swept up his future intended and bravely carried her back to the St. 
Aelwyn's Cathedral.  Several people came with the group, trying to protect
Miss ab Almassin in the case of an attack.  Eventually the tainted magic
vanished after a few hours with the help of recently ordained Priestess Olha
Dmytrenko.  Whether this will be the last attack or not has yet to be seen.

A Shadowy Duel

It looks like magery is on the rise this winter season.  In Confessor's Alley
a dark shadow haunted the streets, sending citizens running.  The tainted
shade was confronted by Sir Lans ab Durandal who in knightly fashion held the
shadow down from further destruction and terror by engaging it in a battle of
wits which he followed up with shooting with his bow and arrow until it
dispersed.  One has to wonder about the timing about both these attacks. 
With both targets being known figures within the Order and their upcoming
marriages on the horizon, was this done to disrupt the future ceremonies?

Wedding Bells Ringing

Radomir von Kazakov and Raylene ab Almassin are officially to be wed later
this month.  Rumors of elopement proved to be false and Banns were officially
posted right before the previous issue of the Harlequin went live.  The
couple are said to be having their wedding outside of Lithmore City.  The
wedding is supposed to be taking place a few days before the official 3 month
wait period of Banns.  Given the attacks on the former bishop, it may have
been determined a few days early wouldn't cause any harm.  

On that note, Sir Lans ab Durandal and Siliva ab Lionhart are still going
strong on their Banns and will be expected to have their wedding soon though
so far dates have not been set as of this writing.  Though the dates may be
out by the time this issued is published.  We're glad to see both couple
flourishing despite the hideous magery attacks they've had to face.

Finally there are rumors that another young couple might be well on their way
to posting banns.  Rumors speak of a couple in the Physicians Guild seeking
marriage though Banns have not so far been posted.

Festive Yule Days

The Yule Faire was a rousing success with food and beverages as well as ice
skating for all those present.  The highlight of the evening was the Merchant
stalls with a wide array of goods that were ravenously bought out.  It was a
mad rush to buy things before the shop sold out.  A good sign for the
Merchants no doubt.

Though money was flowing in the purchase of good the same couldn't be said of
donations to the Yule Charity.  Though promoted at the same time as the
Faire, donations were lean being only made by The Merchants, Troubadours,
Miss ab Almassin, and the Lady Seneschal Theodora op Arcenant.  Despite this,
Mother Elrisana Oresen hosted a Charity Supper at Saint Danijel's Chapel and
made sure to set up a small monetary donation to the Freemen that attended.

Spring Rumors

While the Yule festivities have ended, rumors about the Spring Awakening are
already beginning.  Whispers of an Auction and Ball are being passed around
with a push to order ahead for your best finery.  Spring Awakening is a known
holiday where sumptuary doesn't apply and everyone can dress in the finest
attire they can afford.  In unconfirmed reports, mentions of a matchmaking
service for the ball has been talked about but whether this will be actually
offered has yet to be determined.

Early in the year 390, after the former Grand Inquisitor Octavia ab Wodensdag
stepped back into the role of the Archbishop, the High Synod congregated to
select another fresh face.  Their chosen candidate this time around would
hail from the northeastern reaches of Vandago.  Arriving in Lithmore shortly
following the announcement, Edgar von Giersch arrived at the Capital.  Little
was seen of the man upon his procession to the Cathedral, but murmurs of
associates alike suggest work had begun on catching up with the current state
of things with the Order, and Lithmore.

A Shift in Infrastructure

standing of the Treasury and reviewing the Crown's rents and holdings through

various properties habitable and hospitable again.  The more curious rumors
say that the Daravi Embassy of all things was being discussed.

Februarius 1st SC 390, on the seventh anniversary of her having taken up the
post, the Lady Justiciar Lyonie dul Acatsia publically announced that she
would be stepping down as leader of the Reeves, citing success in her
priorities; the safety and prosperity of the Royal Family and the wholeness
of the Kingdom. She further announced her full faith and support for Isac ab
Selwyn, Proconsul of Lithmore stepping up to lead the Reeves in her place. 
No announcements have yet been made regarding what is next for the long
serving Great Lady.

Given the poor state of the city's maintenance, Lord Magistrate Norrig op
Arcenant has decided to send the Reeve lower ranks to help and assist the
City's working crews with brooming streets, replacing useless street

cleaner and safer for everyone.

Murder Mystery Dinner

citizens.  A Murder Mystery play will be held on June 6th SC 390 in the Town
Hall ballroom where dinner will be provided.  The first to decipher which
character in this Troubadour sponsored play is the murderer, their motive,
and provide compelling evidence will be declared winner, but merriment is to
be had by all.

Famine Charity

As rumors of famine and resource shortages spin their web through the streets
of Lithmore, the Order has begun no small effort to alleviate initial
concern.  Calls for charitable donation, resources, and volunteered time
follow in the wake of a project that has expanded beyond the Cathedral and
through Town Hall and various guilds.  Acolytes have begun taking such
donations, directing resources under the guidance of the Grand Inquisitor
Edgar von Giersch and Mother Ezra de Varadkar to the orphanage, Southside,
and other areas of the city playing host to those most vulnerable to
famine.

A sudden and abrupt locust swarm of hungry grasshoppers sweeps through
Lithmore!  Farmers panic as they fear for their crops.  Food prices are
already up by 25% and rising!  All over town, hungry people roam asking for
leftovers, while others venture into opportunity and cook the hateful
insects, or speculate and try to profit from despair.

(OOC: NPCs now wander the street asking for 'sacks of food' and/or 'crates of
food'.  To make those items, use the new cooking recipes 1795, 1796, 1797,
and 1798.  In addition, grasshoppers are now forageable in grass fields. 
They can be cooked with recipe 1799.  Enjoy!)

The Crown, through the office of the Exchequer, has announced temporary
measures to regulate food prices that include a ramping up of taxes on goods
beloved of the Gentlefolk: sugar, spices, textiles, imported liquors, and
finished goods and subsidizing non-perishable staples and agriculture with
revenues.  Merchant leaders have lauded the plan to their memberships but
many of the kingdom's wealthy still grumble about undue burdens and damage to
the booming economy.

Edgar executes Yaslan for heresy

Arriving from Ahalin tower, the Grand Inquisitor presented before the crowd a
Vavardi by the name of Yaslan Corvane.  Moved towards the pyre, intentions
were clear as explanation was given.  Following an event in the Cathedral
where the bardic apprentice drew steel on the Grand Inquisitor, the man was
arrested and Reviewed.  A strong distaste for the Holy Order and Davism was
noted, among the numerous heretical beliefs shared before River Square.  In
the waning hours of Review, the Grand Inquisitor noted a repenting soul, but
one that was beyond means of simple repair.

 A final confession to magery was noted as the proverbial nail in the coffin
of that man, and thus the pyre was to be lit, the last method available in
attempt to preserve a wayward soul.

A Successful Charity Drive

With the aid of charitable citizens, guilds, and the Crown's resources, the
Order was able to successfuly drive an influx of donations to those most in
need.  Almshouses, the orphanage, and even outlying chapels were supplied
with food stock, netting to protect gardens against insects, and even tools
to support endeavors in fishing and hunting.  While it may fall short of
preventing a worsening crisis, the efforts of all involved reinforced one
strong statement in support of the Law of Caring.

The Hunger Grows

The Hunger sweeps through Lithmore.

The locals have grown accostumed at the sight of hungry folks moving around,
begging for scraps.  Many citizens have selflessly worked day and night to
gather what they can and relieve the suffering, distributing aid through the
streets, their efforts not unnoticed.  This has prevented deaths and rioting
for the time being.

Still, from several locations in the Holy City, new calls for help emerge. 
Those who can't provide for themselves need assistance urgently, lest
darkness fall upon the people.

This is a minigame for the grid. There are several locations needing food,
and needing it NOW.  People can bring five crates of food (cook recipe 1795)
to each location to secure it.  There is a time limit to it!

The locations are: 
-The Iain Roseren Memorial Orphanage; 
-The Saint Celeste's Mercy Almshouse; 
-The Southside Almshouse; 
-The Ocarian Clinic;

The office of the Chancellor's efforts to apply economic subsidies to grain
trade seem to be paying off.  Food prices, already at a whopping 240% of what
they were at the time of the locust swarm, at last begin to stabilize all
over the duchy of Lithmore.  Before long, they may even begin to drop.  Time
will tell if this will consolidate, or if it is just a temporary reprieve.

An Announcement from the Royal Palace has come forth declaring a new
proclamation from King Amir ab Harmons, delivered by criers and posted
liberally:

"It has come to my attention that some fathers have been marrying their
young, sixteen year old daughters off to poor candidates, in order to no
longer have to feed them.  This only provides further evidence of what I have
long suspected - such early marriages are not to the benefit of those
marrying or to the kingdom.  If one needs further evidence of the
deplorableness of such situations, one need only look at the attempted union
of sixteen year old Brenvilde von Dusairus to pretender Roland ab Beaufort. 
I shall thus henceforth decree that the age of En Passant be raised to
eighteen.  As it would reportedly not do to sunder marriages which have
already occurred, existing couples under eighteen may instead apply to their
fathers for support until such time as they turn eighteen, and no further
such marriages will take place."

The Restoration of Lothos

The last scars of the fallen Beaufort rebellion continue to plague the County
of Lothos and plague her people.  With Count ab Vortina petitioning the
King's Council for assistance in helping his people to better bolster
themselves against the present crisis, the Lady Seneschal works on gathering
supplies to better the roads and holdings from Lithmore proper to the
inflicted County and thus relieve the local workforce to better take
advantage of the areas rivers and forests in order to bolster foodstuffs for
Lothos' populace.

The Poet Knight, Euric dul Guillard, thoughtfully offers to oversee the
efforts and play ombudsman and smooth over any interpersonal difficulties
that might otherwise delay or impede the efforts.

TL; DR - The Seneschal works on gathering supplies to fix infrastructure
concerns between Lithmore City and the County of Lothos.

To Sate the Hunger

With the Council efforts to assist the territories of the duchy of Lithmore
underway, things begin to slowly improve: Dastur's large population needs not
fear death by hunger, a large part of Enridge's cattle is distributed under
heavy mercenary escort, and so on. Lothos begins to undergo a lengthy
renovation of its belegueared infrastructure, though the lack of food there
sparks bloody riots. All in all, however, it looks like things are finally
starting to improve.

On Augustus 20 of the year 390, early at dawn, a few carriages and riders
with the cerulean fleur-de-lis of House Arcenant left the west gate, Asglen
their destination. Within travelled the middle aged Norrig op Arcenant. 
After twenty years of an active lifestyle among mercenaries, bards and
politicians; of forming a family; of writing books; and, briefly, ruling the
realm as Regent, the old man decided to take better care of his belegueared
barony after repeated misfortunes befell it. With a life of adventure and
danger behind him, and a long sunset before him, the Hammer of Asglen bid his
friends and allies farewell for now. Farewell and bon voyage.

Upon the death of wealthy eccentric Rodolfo de Bosque, his estate has
announced that it was Master de Bosque's final wish that a number of his
collection of historical items be offered to the public in a raffle, the
proceeds of which will support a Library of Lithmorran History in his native
city of Montford, sharing the interest he had acquired in history during his
many years in the capital with his fellow Fariners.  The raffle drawings will
take place on Novembris 23rd 390 (Evening of September 26th)

In the meantime, Jalian, of the Bluebird's Ballad, has been engaged in the
public portions of the Ballad to sell tickets and collect those which have
been labelled with names.  He also manages the display of the items which are
to be raffled off.

Since word has been delivered around town, many have reportedly been stopping
by the restaurant in North Lithmore to take a look at the items and purchase
a few tickets.

The Court of Lithmore should once more be the center of political and courtly
life in the Kingdom of Lithmore.  With the famine of 390 behind us, there is
no longer need for austerity measures, nor any reason that the royal court
should not be the envy of any ducal court.  Nobility across the kingdom are
called to participate, and any noble both those presently in the city and far
and wide are invited to take up residence in the palace.

In the absence of His Royal Majesty, who must attend to matters across the
kingdom, the palace is left in the hands of his Seneschal, who is charged
with opening it up and making the appropriate adjustments to revitalize the
court and given full reign to enact them.

A Bardic Memorial

Holiday Charity Drive

Noble Ship Arrives in Lithmore City

In the height of the chill of Januarius, a fine Tubori ship docked at
Lithmore City's docks, flying the banner of the le Storm family.  In the
bustle of unloading the various fine good to be dispersed for sale, a
nobleman was seen disembarking with a small bevy of servants.

Sailors afterwards identified him as Enoha le Storm, son of Baroness Lien le
Storm, come to the capital of Lithmore to participate in the Court
revitalization under King Amir's decree, and to forge alliances and
connections that will last long after he has taken up the seat of Baron.

Countess Cassie ab Lassider of Casterlay is henceforth stripped of all titles
and rights to the County of Casterlay.  She has spurned the King's chances of
forgiveness for allowing her late husband, Gilbert ab Lassider, to support
civil war and the upstart Roland ab Beaufort.

In place of House Lassider, the King has decided to honor his staunch
supporters, the Grenefelds, lately of Iglisrich.  Going forward, Marion ab
Grenefeld shall lead Casterlay, and his title will be Count instead of Baron
and his heirs will inherit Casterlay instead of Iglisrich.

Court Malenta in the Royal Palace:

By authority of their Royal Majesties, King Amir and Queen Cristiana, for
their tireless efforts on behalf of Crown and Kingdom and against their
enemies, highlighted by their assistance in the rescue of Prince Gareth and
their good works to solve the recent Famine, Lady Keeper Theodora op Arcenant
hereby awards Magnate Silvia ab Durandal to the title to the March of Edessa
and Doctor Andorig ab Nesmith to the Barony of Iglisrich.

They are to be addressed henceforth as Lady and Lord, and their spouses and
children are to receive the same measure of courtesy as an extension of their
station.  Upon their death, their titles shall be passed to their respective
heirs.  

Edessa in particular possessed a troubled history, but with the diligent
plans presented by the new Marquessa, the Lady Seneschal has all good faith
that it will prosper in safety under her mindful rule.

The Stone of Iglisrich

The new Baron of Iglisrich, according to popular word, has undertaken an
effort to substantially increase the exports of building stone from Iglisrich
to Lithmore, citing a desire to both boost the primary trade of Iglisrich,
and provide the necessary materials for Lithmore to revamp and refurbish its
failing infrastructure.  Word has it that he is seeking the input and aid of
diverse others to make the project succeed, and intends to bring in and
stockpile the stone within the city.  With a focus on repairing the
dilapidated state of certain sections of the city, including those in
Southside, imports have already begun to increase, subsidized by the Baron. 
Only time can tell if it will be enough to have a measurable impact upon the
city, however.

Creeping Shadows

It seemed like a normal Aprilis morning.  The citizens of Lithmore City were
going about their lives when suddenly the Urth grew a tiny bit darker, like
the shadows themselves were multiplying.  It was just barely perceivable, but
it made homes and streets feel colder, darker, and just a little bit... wrong.

Gradually the shadows returned to normal, but the event left a lingering
feeling that something is not quite right.

nervous Acolytes, but finally the High Synod had elected a new Grand
Inquisitor.  Reportedly one Archbishop laughed and said, "Let him go to
Edessa and die, then!" While another had said, "No.  Absolutely not.  No one
in my Duchy will be the sacrificial lamb." Finally, after much contention --
there was even rumor of a rather undignified shoving match -- it was
announced that Archbishop of Lithmore, Zarif ab Vaughan, was chosen.

Iglisrich's Bounty

Picking up steam from the get-go, the effort put underway by the Baron of
Iglisrich has reached a fever pitch, with huge quantities of building stone
being shipped into Lithmore by various means.  Distributed to work crews
about the city, the stone is quickly put to use, transforming previously
ruined and sagging structures and streets into much more usable version of
themselves, the high quality of Iglisrich's quarry outputs well in evidence. 
Southside, in particular, ended up receiving the lion's share of the effort,
as the area most in need, with quite a number of previously uninhabitable
buildings being retrofitted as hostels, orphanages, warehouses, stables,
places of business, and other such key components of infrastructure.

The Birth of a Prince

The Royal Palace is pleased to announce the birth of a second son.  Prince
Lawrence Michael ab Harmons was delivered of the Queen on June 17 391 and
named for his maternal grandfather and great grandfather.  The little prince
is reportedly of fine health and robust temper, and the queen is expected to
recuperate in her confinement over the next month.

Something Sinister

On June 25th, something sinister happened in Lithmore city.  Around midday,
as citizens went about their daily errands, the ground began to violently
shake, buildings groaning underneath the strain.  

Then four beams of ink-black void shot across the skyline, leaving scars of
pitch black that crackled and feathered into fractal trees of darkness.  Even
once the earthquake finished, these scars continue to mar the horizon. 
Several times a day, the sun passes behind these shadows, leaving Lithmore
City in darkness.

blackouts hit the city.  An earthquake rocked the ground, lightning crackled
across the sky and some swore they saw fire burning up the void.

Gossip abounds as to what occurred, but one thing is apparent: the slashes of
void across the horizon are gone and sky has returned to normal.  Some claim
the individual responsible for the demons and darkness is still at large.

his duties, he commands forth the Knights to shift their resources from the
wilderness to the foreign quarters and the savage dwellings.  They venture
throughout, spreading faith and searching diligently for the mage responsible
for recent horrors.  With Grand Master Izari de Bakir leading the charge, the
objective is also to reestablish civil cooperation through community
engagement between the races.  Patrols will be of mixed origins and meant to
show the people that all that matters is to be Davite -- and not a witch.

A Shift in Morale [Read]

birthday.  Excitement buzzes about what sort of spread will be offered and

respite from the recent doom and gloom.  A few more amused voices murmur on
whether or not they'll be any scandalous songs sung given the previous record
of the Lady's natal days.

As the Shadows Recede...

The summer of SC 391 is one that will go down in history.  In the days that
follow Inzaris Orlov's capture by a joint force of Order and Reeves, the city
breathes a collective sigh of relief and stories of courage, daring, and
heroism emerge.  While everyone awaits the evil-doer's pyring, bards spread
songs about Miller the Brave, one of their own who told a story so enchanting
that it sent away a demon.  There are tales of the Justiciar braving the
threat of the abyss to light a cursed relic aflame, the Knights braving
untold suffering to save the Vandagan Quarter, and of three mysterious
figures venturing into the swamps, destroying a portal and cleansing the sky
of darkness.

In the rebuilding efforts, the Hall of History has a new exhibit.  A
half-melted chair stands on a pedestal, and below it a plaque lauding the
heroics of the Charali Elder Safir and Andorig ab Nesmith.  It explains that
they distracted a horrific demon in Queen's, allowing civilians to escape and
saving untold lives.

The Stone Chef, rebuilt after the explosion, is renamed by its owners.  The
newly titled 'Grieving Knight' has a sign at its entry of the Farin
Grandmaster, face set, holding the illuminated words upright.  Inside, a
fresco has been painted of Earl Marshall Lans ab Durandal and Grand Master
Izari ab Bakir, the heroic pair fighting through a stylized blackness, swords
in hand.

In the Crossroads, the cracks marring the cobblestones were filled in with
steel, the rays etched with the names of those involved in the destruction of
the cursed tome.  At center is an artistic rendering of Lord Justiciar Isac
ab Selwyn proudly carrying a torch alight with holy flame into the
darkness.

The bodies of the missing girls were recovered.  Yasmina Noor saw they were
given honorable burials and that a healthy sum of coin was provided to
support their grieving families.  A granite marker stands in the Graveyard of
the Church of Saint Danijel, ensuring they will never be forgotten.

The swamps south of the city are now marred by a massive crater, a sign of
the explosion that vanquished darkness from the sky.  While the heroes who
triumphed there remain unknown, at the center of the wreckage, wildflowers
have just begun to regrow.

A Successful Community Rally

Mixed-origin patrols by the Knights enforced unity between faithful Davites
from all regions of the kingdom who consider Lithmore City their home.  The
relations between the races are improved, and the city stands undivided, even
in the wake of recent tragedies.

Verdugo will be trialed on the charges of malpractice and breaking her oath.

be a small window of time, where people can bring other matters to the Lord
Justiciar's attention.

Rebuilding Together

In the wake of recent tribulations, the Marquessa of the Edessan March is
supporting a council initiative to make spaces more welcoming and inviting to
the community as they are rebuilt.  Funds are being distributed to builders,
craftsmen and artists to aid in the effort, with focus given to areas both
south and north of the border that could do with new furniture, new
decorations and new warmth.  Care is being taken in the process to
memorialize the victims of recent attacks so they will not be forgotten, with
several artisans being asked to create plaques and markers for this purpose. 
Citizens are encouraged to gather in public for purposes both solemn and
celebratory.  The stated goal is to bring the city together again:
encouraging unity, raising spirits, and providing a much-needed boost to
morale in the wake of all Lithmore has endured.  

TL; DR: The Chancellor works to bring people together and boost morale by
improving public spaces.

Trouble in Tubor

Several pieces of news come from the islands in rapid succession.  Initial
word has the Duchess of Tubor, Beatrix le Strongjaw, in poor health, and
notes that she has confirmed a new heir - her nephew, Lord Eldred le Brant,
to much astonishment as he displaced the Duchess' absent daughter and
expected heir, Lady Briony le Strongjaw.  Then quick on its heels: Lady
Briony has returned to the island capital and has reportedly been reinstated
as heir, but, if so, it was barely in time: the Duchess passed during the
night of Octobris 7th 391, immediately following her daughter's return.

This leaves Tubor in some turmoil, as both Eldred and Briony claim themselves
to be the true heir.  Lord Eldred was confirmed by the duchess in a public
court, while Briony's reinstatement was in private on the Duchess' deathbed
with only one of her own men as witness.  Briony claims, however, that her
mother's intention was never for Eldred to truly be the heir, only done
through his manipulation or taking advantage of a fit of her mother's pique,
and she was the more expected heir among the Tubori nobility.  Neither seems
to have a majority of support, however, as the islands start to gear up to
fight it out.

Turmoil in the Tubori Succession

Following the death of Duchess Beatrix le Strongjaw of Tubor, two rivals each
claim to be the true heir to the duchy named by the duchess herself, both
Beatrix's daughter Briony le Strongjaw and nephew Eldred le Brant.  With
supporters on each side, the first weeks after the death of the duchess are
dominated by attempts to take control in true Tubori fashion: might makes
right, escalated piracy, and outposts stolen back and forth.

It seems, however, that this escalation has worn thin the patience of King
Amir ab Harmons.  Almost as soon as word of the troubles arrives in Lithmore,
an announcement comes from the Royal Palace.  The King will not tolerate
civil war within Tubor.  Both Briony le Strongjaw and Eldred le Brant are
summoned immediately to Lithmore.  Amir will hold court to decide the matter
of the Tubori succession in several months time.  Any citizens in good
standing may present their arguments or support for either side.  Of course,
should either side decide to ignore this summons or to attempt to use this
time to seize control, His Majesty will immediately grant the ducal title to
the other and support their claim with the full force of Lithmorran might. 
His wording suggests an eagerness for the sort of problems that can be solved
with battle, barely restrained.  Nevertheless, both would-be heirs have
reportedly left the islands on their way to the capital.

availability, and NPCs will be on grid as time allows until then.)

Isac faces a gambit

In the wake of recent tribulations surrounding the Reeve leadership, Izari de
Bakir has since taken a stand against the Lord Justiciar.  Using his status
within Lithmore as a platform, the Fariner calls upon notables and citizens
of Lithmore to truly consider the fallout of the Lord Justiciar's latest
actions.  Izari cites concern over a botched trial as the primary source for
failed confidence, making no small reference to the outlandish fines levied
against those bold enough to speak out against the miscarriage of justice in
Town Hall.  Sir de Bakir calls for reform, one which starts with the removal
of the Lord Justiciar Isac ab Selwyn from office.

A City Stands Together

The Edessan Marquessa's efforts to raise the city's spirits through the
improvement of public spaces was a rousing success.  In the rebuilding
process, public seating was added, art installed, and memorials placed to
commemorate those who were lost.  Several locations both south and north of
the border have been enhanced, with laborers, craftsmen and artists aiding in
the efforts and receiving a tidy sum in the process.  Citizens gather to
memorialize the deceased and to remember what was lost, but also to celebrate
togetherness and express hope for better days to come.  Morale within the
walls seems much improved.

Pearl Auction Heralds the Yule Faire!

A rush of activity has gripped Market Square as merchants prepare for the
upcoming Yule Market, hosting it this year within their very own Trade Halls.
Word is that the heir of Strongjaw, Lord Enoha le Storm, has facilitated a
showcase of rare Tubori pearls and that the Mercants Guild will commence the
festivities by auctioning off these special treasures!  The Faire will last
for the remainder of Decembris following the auction, allowing all to partake
in the festivities and browse the goods being offered.  Those interested in
the showcase may view the collection as displayed in the Trade Hall
Gallery.

Trajen de Almain named Justiciar

Tense Southside Magebane Celebrations

Magebane celebrations all across the city's south sharpen and take on a
dangerous note this year.  The usually raucous and carefree masked revelries
course with low and angry conversations about how the Scales sought to crush
their subjects beneath the weight of onerous fines despite winter's coming
reach.  Masked freemen stump from atop broken crates on street-corners as
torches light and celebrations unfurl with the setting of the sun to stoke
the flames of discontent.  The their underlying argument for those willing to
listen is that the Reeves and nobles have shown their willingness to "step on
Southie necks".  They call for Southsiders to come together and show
outsiders "some 'fines' of their own".  

Grey cloaks of the Brotherhood thread silently - yet notably - through the
masked festivities, keeping all in line even as pent-up tensions rise.  

TLDR: Recent Reeve activities stoked Southsiders to discontent and protest,
but the gatherings that result are token and lacking significant impact.

A Sort-of-New Baroness Named

An announcement comes to Lithmore from Vavard via the Royal Palace,
specifically issued on behalf of Queen Cristiana.  She notes that her father,
Duke Loran dul Acris, has stripped the baronial title from Fiora dul Pardieu,
the last of her family, and is replacing her with Theodora dul Arcenant,
whose family is already established in Dusollini.  Her Majesty acknowledges
that the outgoing Lady Seneschal is already married into a title in Asglen,
but that, with the expectation that separate lines of succession are named
from among their children, this is not expected to cause a conflict of
interest.  It is not noted in the announcement, but rememberances from people
in the know recall that the Queen had tasked the Lady Arcenant with efforts
at court and promised her some reward, likely this.

announcement by the Prime Medicus in front of the Madison Hospital.

There, in a brief speech, Delana de Verdugo announced that she was returning
to her role as Prime Medicus after reaching an agreement.  She went on to say
that the contentious policy on alcohol is not being reinstated.

Responding to a jest that drinks are on her, she ended the gathering with an
offer of coffee or tea to anyone wishing at the Queen's Inn.

stockpiled, and flasks of hot coffee are brewed in anticipation.

An Ostentatious Influence Event

While the frigid winter has kept many indoors, citizens stream in and out of
at least one North Lithmore estate, seeking the fellowship of Silvia ab
Durandal.  The noblewoman's campaign for Seneschal has developed the way many
of her political and charitable efforts have: one cup of tea at a time.  She
has been listening to everyone: traders and craftsman, academics and
clergymen, courtiers and foreign dignitaries, even the laborers and servants
who seek a sympathetic ear.  Longstanding allies have traveled to the city to
see her, voicing their support outside the home.  

A Vavardi Inquisitor speaks positively of her piety, evidenced by works of
charity, continuous support of the Order and her published collections of
prayers.  A former apprentice, now a Master Craftsman in her own right,
mentions the Lady's patience, work-ethic and advocacy for those fighting to
make their way in the world.  A few freefolk provide testimony on the depths
of her charity during the famine, sending crates of food down south and
averting several crises at locations in need of aid.  Little by little,
through tea and testimony, she has swayed hearts and minds.

since their elevation, and second, rumors abound of a undisclosed contest to
be held during the event, with the chance to win a rare and valuable prize.

this being the first shifting from Treasury to Keeper of the Seal since
Sibylle dul Fontaine.  Word from Town Hall is that the process is going
remarkably smoothly as a result of the Marquessa's familiarity with court
workings, and that she has taken the opportunity to streamline several

In tandem with the Grand Master Sir de Bakir, it seems that Lady op Arcenant
and the Troupe of the Hollow Globe are bringing the Circus back to Lithmore! 
Rumors talk about the possibility of exotic animals and performing acts and
others whisper about a contest for eating exotic foods.  Whatever it all
entails, no doubt it will be a bit of fun and festivity to celebrate the
arrival of summer.

Apparently having decided that the two rival would-be Dukes from Tubor had
cooled their heels long enough, the palace releases the announcement that the
King has decided to finally hold an open court at which the matter will be
decided, in addition to his normal welcome for his new seneschal.  The King
requests that those who have formed an opinion on the matter come prepared to
present their views.  Following his ruling on the Tubori succession, he will
also receive any additional petitioners.  The court will occur June 14 392.

Each of the two potential ducal heirs has announced that they will be hosting
gatherings in the suites made available to them in the palace earlier that
same day, hoping to strategize and convince last minute potential
supporters.

7:00pm Server, while the heirs' gatherings will be held prior to OOC chat> 

- Criers have gone out.  Briony le Strongjaw is in residence in the Blue
Palace Guest Suite and Lord Eldred le Brant is in residence in the Green

Turmoil in the Tubori Succession

After months left cooling their heels in Lithmore, finding local allies to
their cause, the two rival claimants to the Tubori ducal throne were finally
allowed to bring their claims before the king in an open court in June 392. 
Both Briony le Strongjaw, the late duchess' only daughter, and Eldred le
Brant, her nephew, presented their cases.  Many others stepped forward with
arguments and opinions, with both the Order and the Reeves stating that the
official view of their guilds favored neither side over the other, but in the
end, it was the claim of the Lady Briony that prevailed, as King Amir ab
Harmons ruled in her favor.  Thus will the new Duchess Briony le Strongjaw
continue the Strongjaw line of dukes in Tubor.

Continuing the momentum of the recent festival and the Troupe's Circus, the
Grandmaster is voluntelling Squires to expand patrols into foreign quarters
in an attempt to encourage further cultural enrichment.  Through these
assigned patrols, exchanges of caltural cuisine and traditions are
commonplace.  Rumor begins to spread that the blooming enthusiasm of lively
patrols and mingling among the foreign quarters expands even beyond the Keep.
Word has it the Grandmaster has even declared a cultural cook-off to
celebrate.

River Illness Begone!

With the emergence of an outbreak of illnesses along the river that winds
through the city, a push has come from within the Madison to combat the
diseases cropping up before they can take root and spread further.  Rumored
to have originated from a corpse upstream in the river, large quantities of
medicines have been being stockpiled, and individual Physicians have begun to
roam up and down the riverside throughout the city, offering free treatments
to those they encounter.  Word has it that Physician notables have been
currying influence and favor with others to see their efforts meet success.
