A Consequential Influence Event

Lord le Orban released an announcement just shortly before the Council's
final judgment, relating to the rumors suddenly swirling about the Lady ab
Valareaux: "These rumors are extremely concerning. While we cannot know
yet if there is substance behind them, they nonetheless merit full
investigation. I call on the Council to take them into full regard, and
avoid the risk of choosing a candidate who has dabbled in illegal and
improper activity. We must be certain that our future regent is beyond
reproach."

An Ambitious Influence Event

Despite slanderous accusation Lady ab Valareaux has been seen often around
the Keep speaking with the knights there, even taking a meeting with the
Earl Marshall and Grand Master themselves, assuring them of her intentions
to maintain a strong military and take steps to reduce the loss of lives on
the boarders with the Daravi. The Knights were enheartened by the news and
many, especially those who bore concern over the Lady were relieved,
renewing their support for her.

Coming upon the deadline as decided by the baronial council, the
political battle became brutal, vicious rumors traded back and forth at a
fever pitch. Herazade ab Chevalier seems to be the clear favorite,
enjoying some powerful allies and heavy support, but both Kiana ab Beaufort
and Kiyarin ab Valareaux enjoyed support among certain factions, each
arguing on their own favorite's behalf. With each new point, it seemed as
though one would have a slight edge on the other, despite the gap between
either of them and Chevalier. Though there is much disagreement as to
which enjoyed the stronger position, many suggested that things were
starting to lean more towards Kiyarin. Whatever the favor between the two,
however, it seems evident that Herazade ab Chevalier will serve as regent
for the next two years.

In the wake of decision of the baronial council in her favour, a
cheerful Lady Chevalier soon appeared before the gathered court to thank
her supporters. She gave a brief speech:

"Thank you, one and all, for your support over the previous weeks- without
your assistance, your advice and encouragement, we would not be standing
where we are today. For that, I shall be forever thankful as we move
forward together for the betterment of Lithmore and for the strengthening
of our realm. I humbly accept this charge that has been set before me."

"My first act is to supplicate myself before the Lord of the Springs, guide
and guardian to us all and I pray that he will continue to lead me along a
path of wisdom and justice in the years ahead. My second is to swear
present and eternal fealty to the reign of our young Queen Caitrin and
acknowledge that it is my place to rule in her stead, and that I will
surrender it freely at the end of two years. I accept that I may stand
again if I so wish at that juncture, but will submit myself to the will of
the baronial council at such a time. These simple oaths I also charge all
those who will one day follow after me to obey in their turn."

"Today, it is time for us to move past this era of unjust usurpers such as
the self styled 'Queen Regent' Katarina ab Samael as well as the more
recent squabbles amongst the nobility. I will take instead adopt the title
of Her Grace, the Regent of Lithmore. Let this past remain as a warning to
us of what may occur when we are not vigilant against the enemies in our
midst, and the Lord of the Springs willing, may another never attempt to
seize the Samael birthbright through force of arms.

Already since the regency was secured, there has been a flurry of
activity from the palace, as messengers have been coming to and fro from
various sectors of the kingdom. As the regent celebrated her thirty-fifth
birthday, heralds emerged from the palace, heading in all directions. The
news they carried was simple; that the fugitive Casimir ab Azadar was
henceforth formally stripped of all noble title, as well as the rights of
his noble birth.

No news was forthcoming on the future status of the March of Avonna,
although rumors quickly abounded that it will surely be granted to one of
the new Regent's supporters as thanks for their assistance in the regency
bid.

In the wake of the acension of her Grace Herazade ab Chevalier to
Regent, the Order too saw a changing of the guard. With the latest Earl
Marshall having to tend to other duties, the spot for Earl Marshall once
again needed to be filled. After a long debate in a private council, three
likely candidates were interviewed privately. After the interview process,
the council announced their decision. " For years of service and showing
Faith and loyalty to the Order, we name Sir Arynon von Vortina as the new
Earl Marshall." Before various Knights, Orderites, and even some members of
Court, Arynon von Vortina took his fourth set of vows. " I, Arynon von
Vortina, do accept the title of Earl Marshall. I shall do everything I can
in my new position to help bring Faith to the masses and to ensure that no
heretic nor mage goes unnoticed and roaming free."

Afterwards, the new Earl Marshall disappeared into the Keep to start his
new reign.

Word begins to spread through the city that Lithmore's new regent,
Herazade ab Chevalier intends to take an official public oath of regency.
Already the palace is starting to make ready as the date is set for the 3rd
day of June. Invitations and proclamations soon start to appear, inviting
the nobility and citizenry alike to attend the royal court in order to bear
witness.

The palace kitchens will be opened thereafter and an array of food will be
provided for the guests and visitors.

High Inquisitor Guy dul Fitzwillyam, a recent transfer from Vavard, has
been elevated to the position of Grand Inquisitor of The Holy Order. High
Inquisitor Fitzwillyam is a University graduate with extensive coursework
in ecclesiastic and common law and brings a varied skill set with him to
this new station.

Although rather young for even his previous position of High Inquisitor he
already has a highly decorated history with The Holy Order. Working as a
clerk and confidential assistant to the office of High Inquisitor of the
Duchy of Vavard he participated in a year and a half long operation during
which he was required to pose as an ally to those tainted by magery in
order to provide them with safe passage away from The Holy Orders reach.
Due to his actions in this operation eleven tainted souls were cleansed at
the pyre. Upon the retirement of the High Inquisitor for the Duchy of
Vavard his predecessor recommended him for the position. Serving only four
months in the position and making additional strides toward freedom from
magery he drew the attention of The Holy Synod who saw fit to offer him the
position of Grand Inquisitor of The Holy Order.

Notices posted throughout Lithmore and the surrounding villages announce
that former Herbalist and accomplished author Morgen Harrick is seeking to
borrow books for the purposes of scribing copies. Holders of unique and
rare books may be paid a reward in coin.

Those that always wanted to be an author but did not have the time and
patience necessary to write a full book might be interested to know that
Mister Harrick is also seeking the submission of short stories and prose
for the purpose of publishing a collection of such pieces.

Interested parties or those with books to loan my contact Mister Harrick
via the Lithmorran Couriers Office. Parcels containing books are accepted
and originals will be returned regardless of whether they were needed and
scribed or were a duplicates of books already owned.

Word spreads from Saint Aelwyn's Cathedral that the former Matriarch,
Olivia Calix, has passed away. She was 24 years old.

Some may recall that she was removed from the city to convalesce after
suffering a magical attack that left her unable to serve in her capacity as
Cardinal of Lithmore, late in SC 360. At her request, few details have
been shared since then though officials confirm she had returned to Engvist
and, certain that her end was near, she made the trip back to Lithmore City
to send off a few letters and to confer with Loreth ab Radford who had
served beside her as Grand Inquisitor.

It is said her last words were the same admonishment she often used in the
course of her duties to the people: "Be your best self."
