After a long struggle with illness, Roesia Astartes, formerly High
Priestess Roesia ab Virture of the Holy Order, passed away on the morning
of Novembris 26th, in the Sun Cycle of our Lord, 361. Famous for her and
her husband's heroic efforts during the great mage invasion, Astartes lost
her sight and suffered near fatal injuries. She and Rothgar Astartes, the
former Grand Inquisitor, were some of the few Orderites allowed to
honourably leave the Lord's service and wed.
It is said that the Inquisitor's Rose, a central Lithmorran Tavern, was
named in her honour.

Word begins to move about of a recent ruling made by the offices of the
Crown Regent of Lithmore and the Lady Chancellor of the Exchequer following
a series of meetings. The text was soon found and announcements made:
"Recently, there has been much discussion about the reach and extension of
the Merchants Guild. We, the Crown and the Office of the Exchequer, wish
it to be known that for the protection of Lithmore's people, her trade and
customs, clear lines must be made and be made clear. Firstly, we wish it
known that we fully support the rights of this guild to issue permits for
supplementary sales of goods, but we are concerned that they not be used as
a means to support the Merchants Guild as a whole."
"Further to this, deeper regulations have been deemed necessary with
regards to the sale of items of food and drink. Goods of this nature that
are designed to be consumed either on site or immediately afterwards are a
part of the public interest and are deemed to not come beneath the
oversight of the Merchants Guild. These vendors are, of course, welcome to
come beneath the Merchants banner for the benefits of being in such a trade
organisation, of course. Extending from this, it is further deemed that
any other trade of these items is now formally determined to lay within the
determination of the Merchants Guild."

Johannes op Eremitan, previously the Poet Laudate of the Trobadours, has
been removed from the position due to bardic displeasure with his recent
lack of contact. Also less than pleased with Poet Knight Valariana op
Palaceri, she has been passed over as his potential replacement, though she
is not currently to be removed as Poet Knight, while the guild seeks new
leadership from within.

Following New Years day celebrations word spread quick from the Palace
that both Baron Kaerrick de Winter and his wife Katarina de Winter had
fallen sick. The cause remained unknown, but their conditions seem quite
grave. Round the clock care of Nursias and Orderlies from the Hospital
tend to the noble pair and their young baby has been kept seperated from
her parents for fear of the condition being catching. The situation
remains touch and go, the physicians doing what they can to try and cure
the ailing pair.

Rumors spread like wildfire through the streets as word of Cosmas von
Thorinson is named as the new Poet Laudate. Most bards report to be
enthusiastic of him being named because of his current project producing a
play. Along with that, people are saying that as first act, the tickets
for the play shall cost nothing and that a surprise shall greet all that
attend.

A fortnight after the de Winter nobles fell sick came a cloud of
darkness over the windows and doors of their suites and countryside estate.
The Baron Kaerrick de Winter has been pronounced dead, never having
recovered from the sickness which took to him and his wife. The lady de
Winter has mostly recovered however still weakened from the illness
combined with the first stages of another pregnancy. In the current
situation all signs point to their young babe, Amaryllis, as a child
Baroness while her mother serves as Dowager.

(This letter has been circulated widely around Lithmore.
An open letter to the merchants and people of Lithmore,
I write this with full respect, and with the understanding that it may have
a negative impact on the success of my trade. I accept that, but feel I
must say what I think needs to be said.
For a time now, I have observed as our guild has faced an onslaught of
attacks from those outside of our number. They may be directed against our
guildleader, but I feel as if each and every one of them against me
personally, because they are being directed to have our leader ejected from
his position.
I respect our nobility and I honor their rights by blood unequivocally. Do
I think that they should be able to dictate who runs our guild of merchants
or how we do so? No. No, I do not. I say yes to keeping personal matters
out of our guild- we merchants are not answerable to the Crown for our
trade practices.
I will state that I think a ten gold fee to be too much, but I do not think
that that is cause for us to lose our Grand Magnate. Only we, as merchants
should make that decision. As our chief, I will stand by my belief that
Alphos dul Meticus has been good by and for his fellow merchants. That is
all that I want and ask in a Grand Magnate- I do not judge him on personal
matters.
Let us put this to an end. If Dame de Roldan's fee is still outstanding, I
will pay it from my own purse- and put this matter to bed. Respectfully, I
ask of those that dislike dul Meticus the man, please divorce that from
involving our guild and his place within it.
I will ask other merchants that feel likewise to join their voices with
mine to support me and our guild in this endeavour.
Yours,
Zeita von Zarrova

_________________________________________________________________________
A rash of crime in Eastgale, gradually increasing over the past month,
has devolved into protests and open rebellion. The common people accuse
Baroness Kiyarin ab Valareaux of negligence in her handling of the matter,
absent in Lithmore without having done anything to address the crime.
Particularly vocal has been Theodor ab Talbraid, a gentryman and shipping
magnate based in Eastgale, who suffered a brutal mugging in a nice section
of Seasview. To hear him tell it, he brazenly told the muggers that he
would bring the reeves down on them and involve the Baroness herself on his
behalf - to which the criminals reportedly responded with laughter.
In response, the Baroness has reportedly returned to Eastgale, releasing
her lodgings and staff in Lithmore. From these former employees, word has
her mired under mounting troubles and unlikely to return to Lithmore in the
foreseeable future, if she is able to bring her domain under control at
all.

A frantic messenger from Awan Ride reports the death of Count Gavin ab
Harkness. Though the culprit is unknown, and, in truth, there is no proof
that there is a culprit, the messenger declares that the household is
certain there could be no other explanation. The Count, husband of the
former Queen, returned to his estates there on some apparently urgent
business to find an angry and half-starved bear ensconced within his
private chambers. Hushed whispers place it as a political statement in
assassination, adding that the Lady Cellan might have been lost as well,
had she and her lord husband been travelling together.
