Leather Armour Effectiveness vs Animals

Hey all,

So there's an issue right now where the most effective way to hunt is to do it in full plate armour, taking the armour on and off as needed. The reason this is so effective is because crit wounds are so debilitating - even minor scratches can keep you from hunting another animal.

I think this is undesirable for a number of reasons, not the least of which being it's ridiculous to have fully armoured hunters tramping around in the woods.

My suggestion is this:

Make leather armour as effective against animals as plate armour. Don't boost it against any other kind of attack though - if you're fighting a ruffian or a knight or whatever, plate should still give you an edge. Just make leather armour your go-to armour for hunters.

Thoughts?

I agree that it's a little silly to have hunters in platemail, as plate is pretty noisy and makes it tough to sneak up on this. I know this from RL experience, funnily enough.

However, I'm not sure if the solution is to buff leather armor protection values against animals; I would much rather nerf the penalties of superficial and small wounds, particularly to the legs and feet. Animals always seem to target the legs and feet, and bam there goes your MV unless you've got a horse.

I'm good with that too.

I'd add that minor scratches should not give you the bleeding flag as that can be very debilitating if you run out of bandages too.

Agreed, it's very inconvenient to go hunting when even a 'glancing' blow to your beautiful feet makes you bleed everywhere and nearly unable to walk.

It's a little insane, even if it's realistic -- truth be told, damage to the feet IRL is crippling. But here, it's a nuisance and an embarrassment, I say. It also means that experienced player killers -always- aim for the legs and feet.

Really? I'd have thought arms and hands would be more effective.

Other than legs and feet for MV, hit location has no coded effect.

I thought arms/hands affected attack strength.

All wounds affect attack strength, since it's based on current HP.

Well yes-yes, I meant other stuff. But thanks for reminding us.
