You can practice on any lock, even containers with locks (we need to create these).
Basically, a lock has 1-4 tumblers, and you have your skill% chance of securing any given tumbler. Every time you manipulate a tumbler, all of the other tumblers have the opportunity to drop. On a critical success, you jam the tumbler you're working on open, on a critical failure, you jam the tumbler you're working on closed. Either way, a jammed lock requires a key to reset it and will alert others that the lock has been manipulated. The skill requires a set of lockpicks to be used.
Might look something like this:
Code: Select all
Syntax: Pick examine <direction|object>
Pick <direction|object>
Pick <direction|object> #
Pick <direction|object> # jam
Example:
Pick examine north
Inserting your lockpicks into the lock, you determine that the lock has two tumblers: 11
Pick north 2 (in this case, Pick 1 or 2)
You delicately maneuver the second tumbler in the lock. Tumblers: 10
Pick north 1
You break you lockpicks and jam the first tumbler in the lock. Tumblers:{R1{x0
Pick north 1 jam (attempts to jam the tumbler in its current position)
You force the tumbler in place. Tumbler: {R1{x0
