To be clear: I don't think SEEKING should be OOC, but I do think SPONSORSHIP should have the OPTION of being OOC. To me, it doesn't make much sense that a prospective merchant would need more than a single merchant vouching their ability or potential, nor more than a single ally or two in court, or a Knight to be like "Yah he's cool yo." I do like the part of seeking where you need to meet a few guild-members first, but I really don't like the pressure I feel to approve someone so long as their concept isn't totally, wildly, outside the realm of what the Guild can do.
+1

And/or perhaps the sponsorship should show to the guild but NOT to the seeker?

For public guilds, the GL (or anyone assigned gl enlisting powers) could review who's done what but they don't need to necessarily be on record with the seeker themselves as far as the whats and whys of sponsorship.

And in covert guilds, it would open up the opportunity to assess someone in private. If you have a scene with them and decide to sponsor them, but they eventually DON'T get in for some reason, they know that you've sponsored them so they still know you're a Thief/Manus/Whatever. But if sponsors only show to the guild or GL then they can still manage the process exactly the same without providing that IC info to the seeker.

Kinda separate topic from just sponsorship being OOC, but a bit related.
