RPXP Combat Limitation

Currently you have to get 1000 RPXP before you can initiate combat. Can this be removed?

Why: Because there are other ways to punish griefers and reverse the rare incidents of griefing without denying IC action by OOC restriction. Combat is sometimes an integral part of RP, and doesn't have to end with death or even punishment. This is particularly restrictive of new players who want to play Knights and go right into sparring from the start.

I wouldn't want to eliminate it, but maybe reduce it to 500 or something?

Any reason why we need to have it at all? What does it do that requiring XP before you kill somebody, and having an RP-enforced game, doesn't do already?

We've had problems with twinks showing up and making nuisances of themselves in a big way before.

Do you think that this cap helps that? It seems like somebody who wants to make trouble will do it regardless, and this only harmful to new players who want to have legit RP. Sparring, fist-fightiing, and contests that need the combat code are all prevented by this piece.

I'm on Leech's side with this one. I don't actually see the point of it. I do agree there will be some few instances where this might be abused, but I think that would be easily resolved with a pboard to an imm and a copy of all that transpired(don't forget about desc notes!).

Recently, one of my characters and one of leech's had a run in, we barely had any rp at all, I wound up on the wrong side of leech's weapon. But it was appropriate according to what was going on, I feel we both were okay with what happened and what may eventually happen.

You might be misunderstanding, assuming I'm thinking that you play the character I'm thinking, Onyx =P I brought this up because there was an instance when I was playing with a cyan and I wanted her to attack me, but she was prevented from it by code! It was very annoying, for me especially - trying to hook this newbie in only to run into a coded limitation of IC interaction with few benefits if any.

I don't know, I've had some very frustrating code-fights with true-blue cyans before and wished they didn't even have the option. I don't really like having to make my character a murderer over something little because someone is twinking out and able to use combat when they don't really understand (or want to respect) how it works. I was about to suggest re-upping it to make it higher, and not possible until a character purchases established or becomes established by code.

I think there are work around for this, though, aren't there? If someone wants to be a Knight and needs to get their XP up before they're able to fight, they could have training scenes - being taught by players, rather than directly sparring - which is going to lead to the same sort of emotes and interactions, it's just in another venue.

If you don't use the finish command, you're not a murderer. They just get knocked unconscious for a few minutes, and in that time you can walk away and consider the lesson taught. This is true for all PCs, though currently if you fight an NPC human you'll autokill when you win.

How about instead of tying it to the character, tie it to the account? That way there's a way to distinguish between true blue cyans, who, frankly have no idea have the system works (and should probably get a little bit of experience with TI in general first) and prevent them from engaging in that form of RP immediately. I feel that a fair number of players when they first join tend to treat TI as more of a hack and slash, when that's no the case at all. Frankly, especially if a player is rolling a new char, that 1k limit can be a true nuisance. Experienced players know (or should anyways) what they are getting into, and understand the possible consequences.
