Overall, I hope that the game wasn't as much of a headache for everyone else last week as it was for me. I also wrote a couple of specs, one of which is here for everyone to TAKE AWAY and read for NEXT OOC Chat. If we try to do it today, I suspect we'll get bogged down. I also progressed the automated jail workflow."

I drafted up a new metrics system so that PCs (and guildmembers, not just GLs) will be able to control city metrics via their IC actions, and there will be on-grid, tangible benefits/penalties to a metric being low or high. We are still fleshing this out, but its a thing that is happening."
Mika says, "(Farin)I also have been working on speccing out a more screenreader-friendly version of evoking when colour is turned off, so hopefully being a mage will be more fun for our blind players."

Im still accepting submissions for lore (it can just be interesting facts, you dont need to reference things your own PCs did) / descs / ed descs, and you get QP for helping out!"
Mika says, "(Farin)AND ANOTHER THING: Im renovating the Dusairus Colosseum, and I would like mechanics to be implemented to allow PC gladitorial contests. Thats what Id like to discuss if we have time after player topics - what youd be interested in, how lethal is too lethal, what prizes would motivate you to fight a lethal bear, etc."

Misune I have to say ooc channels are one of those things that helps to relieve some of the stress this game causes.

Emma says, "No one is bothering me, for the record. Global channels are different. Tells and osays are neverending though, and since there is an expectation that you can communicate what your character is doing, meaning to do, feeling, etc. over them they're just... bleh."

Kinaed claims, "(Eld)I think what happens in tells is a problem, and I think a lot of people misuse tells... and I know there's very little we can do about it because it's a private channel and I bet most of it goes unreported."

Misune clears throat "So first off I'd like to present an idea. Having recently bought wealth on a character, something I've never done before, it occured to me that if your character is purchasing wealth, it should have some long lasting effect no? For freemen it's that extra bit of ip, and that's about it... aside from the silver obviously. What I am proposing is that when you purchase wealth it also adds an amount of silver to the weekly amount you get based on class. Something small like 25 or 50 silver. My logic behind this is that obviously those who purchase wealth, outside of chargen, their character must have made some sort of a smart investiment to suddenly get all that silver. The 25 or 50 silver would represent a long lasting effect of the investiment. This is of course just a random idea and thought it wouldn't hurt to bring it up.

Misune coughs "The second topic is regarding gls... I'd like to propose another activity requirement for gls. What I am proposing I've seen before, been told before, and even done it myself on occasion. A Gl doesn't have to rp with their guild to stay active. Aside from the occasional seekers, a GL could potentially not rp with any members of their guild and still remain uncontested GL. And before someone says it, yes if people are upset that their gl isn't rping with them, they could just oust them, and my response to that is that ousting is not as easy as some characters make it. Your average character doesn't have a stockpile of ip or a stockpile of silver to convert to IP. On top of that you have the potential to have a GL who is insanely difficult to oust because of how influential they are." pauses and clears throat "So I feel a requirement for a certain amount of hours logged with a guild member would fix this problem and also encourage rp between guilds. It's already 3 hours needed for a gl to be active, so if two of that had to be with a guild member, it wouldn't be that bad or much of a change. Also I'm not just pulling this topic out of my arse. I've been the recipient of tells from several different people I've rped with over the years, and this is one topic that has popped up over and over again, often with the same guild, but it's a problem I imagine extends to other guilds as well. Heck I know there were weeks where I just did not feel like dealing with my fellow knights as Earl Marshall. On top of that I've also left a guild because the GL was non-existant and didn't communicate with their members. So I'm not just pulling this out of nowhere." takes a deep breath and finishes.

Gaven says, "I'm not sure how staff intends GLs to be but I don't really feel that a GL should be -required- to RP with certain people every week. A lot of being a guildleader is being a leader, not a personal RP fount for the guild members because they can't or won't do anything on their own. Requirements were already raised for GLs themselves to a higher number of hours per week over other players and adding on more restrictions to them just increases the idea of the game feeling like a job rather than a happy funtime place."

This is about one scene, depending on the size. if they were to rp every day that is 1-2 people a day maybe. And not everyone can commit to playing every day. Sometimes if you don't see someone or can't get ahold of someone all the time, it isn't because they are ignoring you or what not, but that they don't have the time. there are how many active characters?"

Ariel says, "(Tubori)First and foremost, I want to stress that I think a lot of this view of a power clique is based off outside perception without full context and knowledge, and how different it looks from the 'inside', using Ariel specifically as an example. First off, power. Ariel doesn't actively seek support; he doesn't actually have that much IP. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people concerned about Ariel's level of power have more IP. And Ariel honestly has very little input on most Court business anymore, excepting things like big staff-side plots like the White Flame that cross guild boundaries/require nobles to have a say. But in the day-to-day choices made at Court, most of the political plots in-game, Ariel's not even involved. I'd be lying if I pretended Ariel didn't have input in other places, but equally less than is perceived there as well."

Looking at the clique issue, while his IC bonds to powerful people are real, they're not unshakeable. Ariel doesn't always agree with his allies by a long shot. Y'all know how much he argues with EVERYONE. In recent GLAs, people often haven't even TRIED to approach him or change his mind on whom to support - and they might be surprised if they did. Nor are these bonds exclusive. A clique means you shut people out, but Ariel's happy to accept new friends and allies whatever their power or station, so long as people act like good friends and allies. On an OOC level, I'm always open to new IC relationships with new players interested in good RP - in fact, I thrive off them, though I don't always have the time to chase them. Seriously, just ask."

But I'm willing to entertain the possibility that there's more to this than mistaken perception - that, unwittingly, I have been contributing more negatively to people's experiences than positively. If that's the case, then there's nothing I want more than to fix that."

In the position of Regent I have tried to have a balance of reaching out to people as best I can to provide rp opportunities and encouragement in plot. Sometimes, some topics require some degree of secrecy, but I always talk about them with the relevant groups involved. I also don't necessarily go out and hang out in the taverns because I know it gets awkward with nobles hanging out with commoners and have felt that resistance before. I don't want to shut people out, I think as Regent it is my job to help provide rp opportunities, but again, like Ariel, I don't know what I'm specifically doing to cut people out. Please talk to me, lets work on ways to make things better."

I've been going to physical therapy twice a week, visiting my surgeon regularly, going to therapy for my PTSD and I've just got a referal to a neurosurgeon for my back. So my time has been limited. Some of the times I'm on I'm just going through the mail and delegating to people to take care of stuff and addressing plot things, not trying to avoid people"
Silrie says, "Oh, just a note on tells. I had an incredible, what felt like all day conversation with a character in tells that really helped flush out an idea for a character. So if used right, maybe they can be helpful? And they're good for, hey, can you rp? But now that I know it's controversial, I honestly feel hesitant to send any. Ok, back to Ari's topic."

Secondly yeah ariel may not have a stockpile of IP, but there are other ways to get ip. Thirdly, and I'll just be blunt here. Ariel, you are the type of character that scares me, icly. Whether you don't acknowledge it or not, you have influence, and ariel the character also has his hands in so many pockets. Ariel may not be as evil as some interpret him to be, but he's still terrifying on a political level, and sheerly influence level. Misune often tells people icly not to get on Ariel's bad side because he has the power to make your life a living hell, and also to just remove you as a gl." Coughs "So in summar of what I just said, you are more terrifying than you realize ariel, and very intimidating to most players."

Kinaed claims to Misune, "(Eld)Because it reduces disorientation for new players and is a good reminder for old players. It does not remove the need to explore as it can only reach a certain level of detail, but does help in a game where recall doesn't exist to reduce the weight of getting lost."
Evrald says, "Because those new to the city don't know their way around the city."
Temi claims, "We don't -need- a map, but there are some players it will help."
Kinaed wonders, "(Eld)Besides, maps exist IRL, so why not here?"

Tomas asks of Misune, "If you are new to this game, it can be -very- difficult and intimidating to find your way around. Plus... it's handy, it makes sense that someone would have mapped it out. It's like asking, why have a book about a zebra who lost his stripes? because it adds flavor to the game"
Farra claims, "Complaining about people not being able to do cool things and then immediately questioning when they do is a bit hypocrotical, sorry."

Ariel states, "(Tubori)So, I didn't intend to talk about the staff alt thing, but yeah, it's out there now. I limit myself in a lot of ways because of it. I don't tend to pursue investigations much anymore, I don't give advice on a lot of things anymore, etc. I've been here for four and a half years and in all that time I have never used my staff powers to benefit my alts or take revenge if they were harmed. I am more than willing to accept whatever happens to me ICly. Once, on my staffer window, I saw someone purchase a goal to burn a mage alt of mine at the stake. And I played it all through when they came for her, and she burned. I ask you all for the benefit of the doubt that I'll be fair because I think my record of conduct has earned it. Thanks."
