Log session starting at 18:07:01 on Saturday, 27 July 2024.
Temi gives an oversized pillow mounted upon stubby, little wooden legs to AlleyGirl.
It could be used for: sit_on
InvestSouthside carefully considers an oversized pillow mounted upon stubby, little wooden legs.
The following information is recorded about it:
The pillow is a bit oversized for the little legs and platform that it sits
upon, trying very hard to suggest 'pillow' more than 'ottoman'. It has been
generously stuffed with duck feathers, the stubby wooden legs with gently
curved feet almost disappear beneath it, allowing a person to sit fairly low
to the ground, only raised a couple of hands from if it had been set directly
onto the ground unraised. Subtle embroidery on one corner of the pillow
depicts an innocent-looking mouse peeking out from a hole, as if it had been
cut out from the interior of the pillow, a few embroidered duck feathers
floating its tiny face.
It is priced at approximately 25 silver.
This 'an oversized pillow mounted upon stubby, little wooden legs' is a kind of furniture.
It appears to be made of cloth.
It looks to be in excellent condition.
It weighs around 10 pounds.
It can be worn as follows: take hold
It is too large to really carry without help. (Actual size: 600)
Its value should be approximately 25 silver.
This can be embellished.
This furniture could accommodate 1 people, to a maximum of 250 pounds.
Use of this furniture should be 0% as restorative as the ground.
Temi waves.
AlleyGirl bounces her pillow. "Oh! The game at the wedding! Right?
Temi nods in agreement.
Karrin has transferred HIEROPHANT. [OOC]
Meiari states, "Ohhhhhh that's clever"
Karrin says, "So sorry about starting late today! We'll get going in just a few minutes. I
completely lost track of time."
Karrin has transferred ThatBard. [OOC]
Temi gives an oversized pillow mounted upon stubby, little wooden legs to HIEROPHANT.
Temi gives an oversized pillow mounted upon stubby, little wooden legs to ThatBard.
Karrin muses, "Or, I guess we can get going now-ish. We've got everybody in game. Do I have a
volunteer for scribe?"
Temi claims, "It's been a little bit since we were off last week, but it seemed worth doing still."
Temi grins.
Karrin says to Temi, "Truth."
InvestSouthside raises hand and wiggles, "If no one else?"
Valora states, "What a cute little pillow. I love it. Look at that mouse. What a silly mouse."
Karrin nods at InvestSouthside.
Karrin claims, "OOC Chat Rules:
- Approach each topic with the mindset that each person is doing the best they can with the
knowledge they have, staff and player alike.
- Please avoid topics around current events. Nothing should be revealed in an OOC meeting that
others would prefer to find out in game ICly.
- This is not the correct forum for criticism of a specific player or a topic centered around one
player. If there are concerns about a specific player, or specific policy violations, please address
that with staff privately."
Karrin says, "Alright! That said, how has RP been the past two weeks (since we didn't meet last
week). Looks like there have been a few events going on, that's exciting."
InvestSouthside states, "I have been having a good time"
Meiari claims, "Lots of emotions everywhere all the time"
NdNd says, "New character, grtting my feet wet. looking forward to mingling when ready."
Karrin says, "Ah, emotions. They make the RP world go -round-."
Pippa states, "Oh, pretty well, a little quiet on my in game side, but rl has been trying to make up
for that"
Karrin states to NdNd, "No harm in taking your time. I tend to spend a long while in chargen myself,
when I go through."
Valora says, "It's been eventful... good though."
Karrin questions to Pippa, "RL kicking butt, huh?"
Pippa exclaims, "You could say that!"
Karrin says, "Well, here's to hoping it calms down a little bit."
HIEROPHANT states, "Grid's been on something of a rollercoaster, from what I've seen. Fair few new
blue folks scurrying around, which is always nice to see, though."
Temi nods in agreement.
Karrin claims, "We have had a delightful number of cyans in the past couple weeks. It is been good
to see."
Karrin muses, "Before we get started on our staff updates, anyone have any topics they'd like to
bring up?"
HIEROPHANT claims, "I have a very mild thing that I noticed this week, yeah"
NdNd shakes head.
Valora says, "If no one has one I got a minor thing. Should be rather quick."
Karrin nods at HIEROPHANT.
Karrin claims to HIEROPHANT, "Got you."
Karrin states to Valora, "And you."
Karrin claims, "Ok! Temi, I'll let you go first."
Temi states, "Oh, well! I'm working towards the end of a big project at work. Hopefully that
should be launching early next week and I can get back to my normal availability"
Temi says, "In the meantime, just some general requests and plots and things like that. Nothing too
involved."
Temi nods at Karrin.
Karrin claims, "As for me, I've been having a lot going on at home and at work - so my energy once I
get here has been flatlined. But, I've been doing what I can when I can. I always do try to respond
if you reach out, but I do apologize if sometimes my response might be 'this weekend when I have
more brainpower'. Other than that, I've been shuffling ideas around on boards, and talking to Lochan
about what to implement next, and some things that need to be done."
NdNd sits down and rests.
Karrin says, "Lochan's also been smashed by work, so it seems like a triple play here. RL work hates
your staffers recently."
Temi nods in agreement.
Temi claims, "Mean ol' work."
Karrin states, "Yeeeeah, wish we could get paid to run this place. But, alas."
Karrin questions to HIEROPHANT, "What do you have for us, topic-wise?"
InvestSouthside muses, "TI:L patreon when?"
HIEROPHANT claims, "Just a moment, need to finish typing. Y'all went quick."
Karrin claims, "We are speedy today."
NdNd claims, "Found a TI-Legacy Twitch chan yesterday"
Karrin says to InvestSouthside, "Hah. Unlikely. I may have to hit you guys up about this time next
year since our host server is phasing out and we'll need to move, but... I'll be doing my best to
make sure I can cover that."
Karrin states to NdNd, "Oh, I hope no one is streaming while playing."
NdNd says, "Zero followers"
Karrin claims, "Oh, good."
HIEROPHANT states, "Okay, I'm good."
Karrin says, "Disclaimer that shouldn't be necessary, please don't stream while playing."
Karrin nods at HIEROPHANT.
NdNd claims, "Thought maybe it was set up for some kind of potential promo"
Karrin trails off, "It may have been, at some point. Game has changed hands a few times - I just
took over in, uh..."
Temi states, "I mean, it was something that staff had discussed ages ago, but we'd pretty much
abandoned the idea, since the fun stuff to show off would be secrets"
HIEROPHANT says, "Less a conversation topic, more a mild PSA. Or just a mild bit of TI trivia.
Server-time and server-ticks - that is, the cycles the game processes things on - don't like up 1:1
for a variety of reasons but, mainly, server restarts. IC time progresses while the server's up and
running, so each nightly restart, and each update from the coder crew, causes the otherwise 1:4
ratio of OOC to IC time to 'lag behind' by however long it took to restart. Those restarts add up.
The thing to take away from this is : Scheduling! IC holidays that are upcoming are shown with the
time command - calendar events, like Magebane, Spring Awakening, Chalice Rising, and so on - aren't
always quite accurate because of it. The same sort of thing applies to decaying items, like raw
veggies and meat, and other time-dependent things.
It's not a particularly large problem, nor one easily fixed, just something to be aware of.
That's all! Plan accordingly, and store valuable raw goods in coldrooms if you aren't sure you'll
log in soon enough to use them up, that sort of thing. Events might not literally land on the right
calendar date if they're announced too far in advance, and so on."
Karrin glances at Temi, "When did I take over?"
Temi questions to Karrin, "This year?"
Karrin says, "Yeah, few months max."
Karrin listens to HIEROPHANT, though.
Temi nods at HIEROPHANT.
Temi states, "But everyone should be forgiving about holiday celebrations not falling on exact days"
Karrin says, "Good advice. And, it may be wise to plan things in OOC time - everyone can handwave if
it's a weird time ICly."
Karrin nods at Temi.
Karrin states, "Exactly."
InvestSouthside states, "Yeah since ive been playing even store metric restocks has shifted cuz of
restarts"
Faith says, "There's convertime and timeconvert too. The fact that reboots mess it up is listed in
those help files. "
Karrin nods in agreement with Faith.
Valora says, "It keeps you on your toes and gives other people a chance to be there first,
Southside. lol"
Karrin states to HIEROPHANT, "Thank you for the note - absolutely accurate, yeah."
Karrin questions to Valora, "What was your topic?"
HIEROPHANT nods.
Valora queries, "I just wanted to do a check in about a topic I brought up a bit back when Maeve was
still implementor and I think I might have mentioned it again right after Karrin stepped up. I had
asked about maybe getting a level 75 Husbandry craft or animal added. I wanted to know if a decision
was made for that?"
Temi claims, "I believe the decision was 'probably, when we have a good one, but we don't like the
current ideas'"
Karrin claims, "It is on our list (looked at it just yesterday, in fact), but bugs have been a
priority up until this point. We have discussed it off and on, so it's not forgotten I promise."
Karrin nods in agreement with Temi.
HIEROPHANT trails off, "Hmm.... Tigers..."
Karrin says, "Yeah, we're trying to think of a genuinely good one."
Faith declaims, "BEEES!"
Temi states, "Always happy for people to make specific suggestions, as long as you understand we'll
have to make other considerations as a part of deciding, and may not go with everything"
Karrin chuckles.
Karrin states to Faith, "We have bees."
Valora states, "No worries. Figured I'd just check in if we didn't have any heavier topics since it
came up in a round about way in convo earlier."
HIEROPHANT says, "Really big bees you can get as retainers."
Valora states, "Vulture bees? Meat honey would be fun to sell. JK JK"
InvestSouthside claims, "Spider silk farms"
Meiari trails off, "Silk worms... because silkies need more silk"
Temi says, "One of the considerations is that it would be nice for people to be able to show off
their mob and bring it around"
Temi states, "And people leading their bee around already makes me twitch"
NdNd states, "Silk worms sound amaazing"
InvestSouthside muses, "Do stats for combat / horses change depending on the breeder whos raised
them?"
HIEROPHANT claims, "Yes, that's why my vote is for tigers. Crusade benefit. It has nothing to do
with my desire to have a pit full of tigers to throw goody two-shoes into, no."
InvestSouthside wonders, "Gator moats?"
Meiari leans over to Heirophant and stage whispers: "Isn't that what the leech pools are for?"
HIEROPHANT states, "The leeches aren't aggressive."
Valora looks at her small menagerie of animals. "I would enjoy more pets... Tigers would be fun to
offer people for pit fights... blood sports making a come back in Lithmore."
Meiari trails off, "I don't know if that's better or worse..."
NdNd trails off, "The leeches arent agressive... yet"
Faith wonders, "Oliphant? Vandagan dancing bear? I don't know the list that's implemented"
Karrin claims, "Here's why I am not ok with tigers."
Temi grins.
NdNd claims, "Bigfoot"
HIEROPHANT wonders, "Besides it being my idea and also a joke?"
Temi says, "There's help animals"
Valora claims, "I think tigers is more of a joke answer lol."
NdNd claims, "Or vandagan yeti"
Karrin claims, "... I'm not really... fine... with people just wandering all over the city with
their pet tiger? Because what makes ME twitch is people bringing their animals absolutely everywhere
no matter where it is - cathedrals, shrines, etc."
Temi nods in agreement with Karrin.
Karrin states, "Maybe. But, just... yeah."
Temi says, "There's no difference in animal stats from breeder to breeder, but there is from breed
to breed"
HIEROPHANT says, "Well, clearly, they should be mounts, and thus be made to wait outside by default,
just like horses."
InvestSouthside looks at his otter and narrows his eyes, "I feel called out"
Karrin nods in agreement with Temi.
Temi states, "Ie charali horses have better stats than lithmorran horses."
Karrin states to HIEROPHANT, "I remember the day someone asked for a riding pig. Still... no."
Karrin laughs.
Faith claims, "Maybe something tiny, fragile, demanding to care for, rare, and not real. Something
unique to TI Lore"
Temi says, "Could be possible"
HIEROPHANT states to Karrin, "In seriousness, a tiger or what-have-you is more the domain of a
custom pet, probably."
InvestSouthside says, "Alpacas"
Temi states, "We'd also discussed something like a prestige breed of dog or horse"
Meiari says, "Chinchilla. Then you have the qualm of slaughtering it for exotic fur >:D"
NdNd says, "Vavardi stained glass fireflies"
InvestSouthside queries, "My concern with tiger is we have a metric import for tiger fur so wouldnt
that null that a little? Unless we are just thinking of for pets and no harvestables"
Karrin states, "No tiger pets."
HIEROPHANT says, "Anyway, an actual animal to raise should be something unique, that either produces
a valuable good or has very high cool-factor; and as far as the 75 craft goes, properly butchering
certain poisonous fish, snakes, etc. seems appropriate."
Faith says, "75 shouldn't neccisarily mean bigger and meaner, but harder to breed/take care of"
Valora trails off, "I would suggest a dog more than a horse if we went that way. Charali Horses are
already suppose to be 'the best' and are the 70 slot... having another horse at 75 would be... a bit
odd when they already make up so much of the top levels"
NdNd claims, "Daravi sand worms"
InvestSouthside asks, "Yaks?"
Karrin says, "Final answer. Anyway. We do still have it on the docket, still thinking about it. We
will come up with something neato. Just might take a bit of brain power to do it."
Faith says, "A toy breed of a Tubori Whale"
Temi states to Valora, "If anything, an upgraded line of Charali horses or something, but yeah,
that's part of the issue"
Karrin says, "I'll do some searching on National Geographic this week."
HIEROPHANT states, "A craftable aquarium that functions as a fish-farm for rare or decorative/hard
-to-maintain fish might be appropriate"
Karrin says, "Ok then, Temi has a topic that's a lot less fun. But, Ill let her take over with that
one."
Valora says, "Thanks for the check in. I just wanted to touch base. No worries or rush, just
curious."
Faith says, "I think the problem with making a more champion breed of Charali Horses, is soon
everyone with money will have one, and they'd lose that feel of rarity. Kinda like Charali horses
already do"
Karrin claims to Faith, "I can see that, though lots of people can breed Charali. Whereas if we kept
this at 75, only people who have put husbandry in that special learn spot can get it. But, yeah.
Anyone breeds too much, it can overrun things."
HIEROPHANT claims, "Most people don't have a charali horse, actually. They're rather expensive, and
IIRC take several OOC months to foal. And the breeding pair is also prohibitively expensive, just to
get started."
Karrin claims, "The mobs are incredibly frustrating, yes. They can go down fast if you miss their
feeding, so constant tending is needed."
Karrin claims, "And it takes a long time."
HIEROPHANT claims, "Avocados are like that, for some ungodly reason."
Faith claims, "Just something I noticed in the past. Not sure about current population. But anyway,
not important."
Karrin says, "We once had a time when about 4 different people were breeding them, and it felt like
everyone and their mom had a Charali. They were cheaper from PC breeders. But now, less common,
certainly."
Karrin claims to HIEROPHANT, "We actually tweaked avocados back a few months ago to be better. Let
us know if it gets better."
HIEROPHANT claims, "Oh, neat. My guacamole-based weapons of mass destruction can resume production."
Karrin claims, "They'd better explode in a mass of green."
Karrin asks of Temi, "All set?"
Temi nods.
Temi claims, "Yep, if we're good on the pets"
Temi says, "Right, yes. So... I've had someone bring up some concerns to us, and I wanted us to
discuss them with the group. Particularly, the issue of pregnancy and issues regarding it. I have
no personal experience here, so it doesn't hit close to home for me, but I understand that it -is-
an issue that does hit close to home for some. Over the last year or so, we had added some options
for childbed fever with a chance to impact the mother, and while there's no chance to lose the baby,
there is also a random chance for some sort of defect or issue when the baby is born. The idea
behind these was that they provide some serious drama that can help to impact characters and make
for hard choices and more indepth character development, but it's also been suggested that instead
that this may just be distinctly unfun and not something anyone wants to see. So we thought that we
would check it to get a temperature check on players around the issues."
NdNd states, "Sounds like it could be better as an opt in system"
Karrin questions, "You guys typing, or uncomfortable, or shrugging?"
ThatBard says, "I think it sounds great."
Meiari states, "I'm contemplating"
Faith claims, "No experience here either. Real life defects feel too sensitive I think. I think
obvious signs of being tainted as a mage would generate more thematic drama. If a player wants to RP
with a disabled child, that should be more opt in when they create the prop (if that's how it works,
no idea). "
Valora says, "I don't have a ton of opinion on that. Opt in/out may be good for the few people who
are willing to take the risk and RP it out but let those who either don't want to deal with it
because IRL trauma or just wanting a normal pregnancy cause it appeals to them more. If it was taken
out fully though I don't have a reason to say no."
Temi claims, "I think we don't say what the defect is, just that tehre is one"
Karrin states, "The mother can edit the prop however they'd like, yes."
InvestSouthside states, "I think opt in at best but idk "
Meiari states, "I personally feel like it's realistic to time, this is a grimdark setting, I feel
like it inspires RP and... Especially if it's something you can describe yourself? I'm more than
fine with rolling the dice."
NdNd states, "I like it if its opt in"
HIEROPHANT says, "There are a lot of things in TI that are gross, uncomfortable, unpleasant or
outright horrifying, many of which are involuntary or have direct IRL parallels.
I don't have a horse in this race, I don't go for romance RP or the like at all - it says so in my
whois and everything! - so what I'm curious about from an outside perspective is -
What sets this issue apart from every other terrible misfortune you can suffer against your will in
this game? Genuine question. You can't 'opt out' of other consequences of choices made."
Faith says, "Alternatively, instead of Opt-in, there could be some sort of disclaimer that defects
are a die roll possibility when someone initiates whatever command that is"
Karrin states, "To me? Because it can and will happen in real life. Has, for some of us. Are you
likely to be tortured RL because you're a mage? No. Are you likely to be pyred RL because you're a
mage? No."
Karrin claims, "But 1 in 4 pregnancies end in no baby for the mother to hold. And several more
pregnancies end in babies that need life-long care. If someone WANTS to play that, I am totally for
it. But, (yes, this topic came from me, I guess I am too close to it) I feel it should be something
that is their choice, and I don't think code should have anything to do with it."
Karrin claims, "BUT... I do know that I am hypersensitive to it. So, I wanted to see what the rest
of the playerbase thought."
Temi queries, "Is there anyone who would appreciate the drama, but feels like it being opt in would
take away from that?"
ThatBard states, "I knida do."
Temi nods at ThatBard.
ThatBard asks, "Maybe instead of making it opt in, we could make it an opt out?"
ThatBard claims, "Because I feel like people that would get triggered by it, know that this is their
trigger. They could at the start of the pregnancy simply opt out."
NdNd claims, "To me thats essentially yhe same thing. sounds good either way to me."
Temi queries, "That's also a possibility. Does anyone else have any similar thoughts? How would
you handle an opt-in, opt-out?"
Meiari claims, "Yeah I feel like that would be better. If you could opt out of negative roles -
cause I can see that being a rl trigger for someone; they shouldn't be punished from engaging in an
aspect of rp just because they don't want to risk their mental state."
Faith says, "Isn't there similar code for the way playing an unawakened mage works, You can choose
to be tainted, choose not, or choose to roll the dice (I think)"
Temi nods at Faith.
Temi states, "And feel free to reach out privately if you have any opinions that you wouldn't feel
comfortable expressing in a public situation like this"
Karrin says to Faith, "When the mage slots are open, you have choices, or can let code choose for
you, y es."
ThatBard states, "From a design standpoint it might be good if such settings could be put on the
player account. Like a lines and veils kinda deal. *ponders*"
Valora states, "I don't really expect my characters to really get pregnant. Not now or some of my
potentials if I have to reroll. No dog in this fight but I think an opt out seems reasonable... or
treating it like being latent is also a good option. "
NdNd states, "Put some notes about the opting out process in chargen, for sure"
HIEROPHANT claims, "Latency is, currently, an opt-out choice that costs XP, but frankly among mages
that's not the most well-liked or agreed-upon feature, so I wouldn't put it forward as an example."
Faith states, "I'd be for that sort of system. I think that gives players the most options. If it's
an issue for you, you opt-out, if it's some sort of RP you want to explore, you opt-in, and if you
enjoy the randomness of the mechanics, you choose that. It really only affects the parents roleplay
directly, and isn't really a way to make like easier in the setting. There's plenty of other ways to
get insta-trauma here"
Karrin states, "I think it's more of an example of choice, not of optimum execution."
Temi nods at Karrin.
Temi says, "Okay, well, we shall continue to discuss and perhaps solicit some more opinions from
folks we've been directed towards"
NdNd states, "And we have walled off the game from some other traumatic life experiences. rape for
example. its not without precedent."
NdNd says, "To block something out for player sanity, i mean"
Karrin states, "We can make sure it's added to the helpfiles, so situationships even with new
players, if they get sticky, they can know about it. Especially if it is an opt OUT instead of an
opt IN. I prefer opt-in honestly, so people don't forget and then end up with some trauma they
didn't expect or want."
Temi nods at NdNd.
Karrin claims, "But, I think it's workable either way."
Karrin nods in agreement with NdNd.
Temi muses, "As a random curiosity, would you put twins in the same bucket?"
HIEROPHANT says, "All I can say is the instances it's happened to players I've interacted with have
been a very strong net positive for RP, but I understand it's very much a YMMV situation.
I think this differs from SA and self-harm policy, as those are never a net positive for the grid/RP
as a whole, IMO.
I was under the impression childbirth was already a death-risk for mother and child both to begin
with, so I hadn't given a seemingly lesser outcome any thought, frankly."
Faith states, "YES, especially in this setting"
Karrin states, "I wouldn't. Personally."
Karrin says, "Having a child with a defect is one thing (related to IRL trauma), having twins is
another. They'd be healthy."
Karrin says, "Which, goes along with the magey stuff."
NdNd queries, "Dont know when the defects roll is made. potentially, an auto-message could pop up
before birth? ?you are pregnant. read this helpfile.?"
Karrin states, "I mean, having twins CAN be its own IRL trauma, I'm sure. But, definitely different
sorts."
Karrin says to NdNd, "Pregnancy is quite long. I hope they look it up during the months they are
pregnant - because it's OOC months."
Temi says, "Yeah, it's not really traumatic in the same way in real life, but it would be an ic risk
to the babies, and the risk could be a real life trigger"
Karrin says, "Defects roll is likely made right before birth, is my guess. So, they'd have time."
Temi nods at Karrin.
Temi claims, "Yeah, I believe it's one of those 'at birth' things"
Faith muses, "Wouldn't having twins generate suspicion of the babies and/or parents because of the
way that sort of thing is viewed as less than ordinary?"
HIEROPHANT claims, "There are a -lot- of risks involved with the sticky in TI. It's kind of mildly
uncomfortable how detailed the whole system is"
AlleyGirl states, "Speaking from great experience, twins are quite... well. I like mine."
Temi nods at AlleyGirl.
Karrin claims to HIEROPHANT, "I very much agree with you, and admit I wondered why so much time was
put into... all of this. But, improvements as they may be. This, I suppose, is what happens when the
game changes hands twice in like 3 months. Means the last one goes, "Why the heck did we do this?"
sort of thing."
Faith claims, "See help religi twins"
Temi grins.
Temi nods in agreement with HIEROPHANT.
Temi says to Faith, "Yeah, hence the ic risk."
Karrin states, "Specifically, read the last paragraph about most recent decades in that helpfile."
Karrin queries, "Alrighty, any more about that topic?"
InvestSouthside claims, "Pigsty and bobbing for apples at the come on inn for those interested"
Pippa says, "Now, that sounds much better"
AlleyGirl says, "Indeed. Join us. Especially for the bobbing of apples."
NdNd claims, "Wish i could show. cell phone rp doesnt suit me."
AlleyGirl says, "We have events periodically, so I'm sure there will be another chance."
Faith exclaims, "Emote Ring Ring Hello! Would you like to talk about your car's expired warranty?!"
NdNd smiles.
Karrin says, "Haha. In that case, I will send you all back to the grid. Thank you for your
participation today."

Temi nods in agreement.
