I had to miss the latest OOC chat due to real life rearing its ugly head. I was looking over the log and saw Vaxin's name brought up in reference to the 'nerfing' of mages. I agree with Kinaed and staff on this one, mages are plenty dangerous enough at the moment. This sentiment that all the interesting spells are being taken away and it's impossible to be scary as a mage is just wrong. The reason Utterance of Eld and Breathbinder had to be deleted was they were broken. Either of those two abilities would allow a GM mage to beat a GM non-mage in single combat every time. The reason that this is problematic is magic is uniquely able to force and create 1v1s. Vaxin killed three people without being scratched. Without giving them any chance to fight back. That's unhealthy for the game. I agree that there fire/void are less interesting and powerful due to the deletion of those spells, but I'm confident staff will address that.
All it takes to cause fear as a mage is a little bit of risk-taking and a little bit of imagination. I don't think anyone who was in Madison can doubt the power of the tools available.
