I'd be keen to wrap (or rap!) it up as well, although I'm also aware of Christmas, etc, coming up. So, that said, I'd go with Temi's suggestion of one more week, but perhaps extended a little bit.

Thanks,
-Hera.

I'm fine with ending the quest once someone achieves a majority - imho that's how it should have been from the start (and how I actually thought it was). There's a reason run-offs are run that way. It makes both OOC and IC sense (the IC side being that it would make sense that once a majority of the realm declares for someone that that decision stands).

If you want to accelerate it further I'd suggest the following:

Suppose A, B, and C are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd last candidates. If A's points + B's points < Cs points eliminate them both together. The logic is that even if all of the support from A goes to B, B still can't pass C so you might as well eliminate them both at the same time. This can speed things up considerably - I can say from experience as either a candidate, a chief returning officer or a deputy returning officer in ~10-15 elections using preferential voting that I'd be highly surprised if it lasted more than 2 weeks from today using this method. It could be over next week easily.

I'd point out that if we were doing majority wins Cellan would have only been 4 points short last week, with enough undeclareds + eliminated candidates' supporters to probably end it the week after. It accomplishes the goals of the people who want to end it quickly but in a way that's still fair IMHO.

Just noticed there are only 4 contenders left. Yah, do 50%+1 and it will only take 2 weeks anyways, so I think the point is moot beyond that.

Given the results today... yeesh. Maybe a Caria v Tobin runoff next week? Or keep all 3? Or is that it?

I'm liking the quest personally so now I'm leaning for Caria v Tobin or keep all 3 but... yeesh.

So I'm flooding this thread I know (sorry).

Here's my two cents for the final time (I promise!)

1. There should be a least one more round since I think a lot of people cast their support assuming there'd be at least 1 more.

2. If only exactly one more is desired I'd suggest one of the following two courses:

a) A run-off, straight up between Caria and Tobin. Maybe give a bit of extra time to avoid Christmas and give some time for plotting.

b) An "instant run-off." Basically, ask people to vote for Caria then Tobin, or Tobin then Caria or Anschel then Caria or Anschel then Tobin or Caria then Anschel or Tobin then Anschel. That way whoever comes last can be eliminated and the influence points and votes recounted right away. I can help with the counting of that if you'd like (electoral reform is the great passion of my life and this is remarkably similar to how actual elections work).

But yah... definitely think Christmas as the next turn-in date is a big issue. And def wouldn't mind seeing this pan out, regardless of what my original vote was.

<Edit>

<And really, hasn't the quest just started now... muahaha>

<Edit 2:>

Just realized I'm a bit dumb for saying I can help with the run-off tallies given where certain key pplz are from (Australia, which uses instant runoff voting already). Offer still stands but yah lol.

<Edit 3> And yah my vote would have gone from "Yes" to "Maybe" if I could change it lol. I'm cool with w/e is decided though.

Based on the results this week, I'd advocate just wrapping it up. There seems to be a very clear majority.

I'm not in the quest, and I haven't even been able to contribute anything in the way of IC support toward any of the contenders due to RL circumstances, but I do think that if the quest was presented in a certain way, it should maintain the framework wherein it was presented. The rules should stay. The time-frame should stay. The contestants entered under a certain premise; that premise should be held to.

(I've been drinking; I apologize if my interjection is incoherent, but I more than likely won't have time to post it later when I'm fully sober)

I understand where you're coming from, Lei, but we've had a lot (and I mean a LOT) of players come and say they're getting exhausted. I can't hold the framework of the quest above the player's overall enjoyment of the game, though I agree we should hold true to the framework we laid out.

Based on this discussion, our decision is as follows:

We will hold one more week of the Monarch Quest with the understanding that the next week is the Final Week. The person with the highest map value wins. We will extend the plotting until next Wednesday to give people a break for Christmas and allow a day of rest.
