We've said before that seeking appears to have become redundant on TI because of the new 'buy-in' guild thing.

As older players, and people interested in running a good RP game, we give a nod to being able to start characters right out of the box. But has this been a bad thing for the game overall? It seems that few characters actually enter the game with the need to develop or needing something from their peers to make their way, which is really a strong basis for RP. Is the game lacking for this?

But we're aware that old players who find it hard to flex their muscles to start from scratch may leave if they can't hit the ground running, and we like our old friends.

What do you guys think?

As a new player, it seems that the ability to become established as a GL or high ranking guild member from chargen is essential. What with players coming and going and such, guilds need to be constantly invigorated with new decicated leadership who will take charge.

That being said, personal experience has found me to view the seeking process as completely invaluable and some of the best rp I've had, absolutely essential. It seems the choice should clearly be to allow buy-ins for say the top two or three tiers of guild leadership to ensure that the roles essential to the game are filled adequately, but insist that those wishing to be a part of the guild at any other level seek IC. Seeking isnt that tiresome a process is it? And i think that especially for the smaller guilds with less players in them, the seeking process is important not only for the player but for the GL who actually gets a chance to be a GL and vet and choose candidates as they wish.

Giving GL's this is important, and any guild with leadership worth its salt should be able to facilitate a fun seeking process of some sort in no time. If the leadership doesnt have the time to make seeking practically viable for more experienced players who dont like hanging around then it should be changed. But seeking itself I maintain is a critical dynamic in the development of character and also power balance between GL and new recruits, it shows that the GL and the seeker need each other, whereas signing up as an apprentice in chargen and then just appearing to rp as a member doesnt suggest the player needs the leadership at all.

To conclude, high level buy ins good, perhaps even the top half of guild roles. Seeking for all other levels essential.
