At the last ooc meeting, Az asked what a thematic way to insert a flag between two guilds(for the purposes of this post, maybe not yours, I'm using Reeves and Thieves as the two competitors).

The first thing that popped into my head was housing.

Reeves, thanks to our wonderful monthly taxes, would probably have a list of every single citizen in Lithmore.

Thieves would (at least in my opinion) probably kill for such a list.

Knowing which noble lives off of what street, where that informant lives, even a list of houses owned by people that can't afford much(places not to bother stealing from), it is all useful to a thief. And worth keeping safe by the Reeves.

So my idea is a list(probably a ledger) of people's houses for the Flag.

Any other ideas?

I think looking at this within the confines of the "capture the flag" box is a poor choice though and just too restrictive.

What we need are things that bring the interests of the opposing guilds into conflict. That doesn't have to necessarily take the form of a flag.

Maybe we can brainstorm ideas as to what form that could take?

The only idea I can think of off hand is for the Thieves to want to control smuggling routes, and the Thieves wanting to shut them down, with the Thieves getting a portion of the Reeves' guild income if they have enough smuggling into the city? I dunno.

Another idea was some sort of drug that has a noticeable negative effect on public welfare (both in terms of code and RP) as well as some positive effect to the individual that gives them a reason to want it. The Thieves would be trying to smuggle it into the city and in particular the Northside. The Reeves would be trying to keep it out.

Not actually a serious suggestion - stinkroids. Steroids that make you stink. Lol.

Or more generally, the Reeves and Thieves could be struggling to restrict/expand the flow and price of drugs and poisons into the city.

And so on.

You've been playing Diablo 3, haven't you? It wants it's body restored and his name is Zultan Kulle. Hehe.

Actually it's a threat that the Thieves/Mages guild leader made to a Grand Inquisitor on old TI (to keep them around as a pet undead talking head). Thought it was a neat idea so the concept kind of stuck with me lol. Zoltan Kulle is awesome though.
