... my friends / And we'll keep on fighting / Till the end. </obligatory>

Had some discussion at the OOC meeting regarding what, if anything, could be added to make being a skill's champion more enticing. As it stands, any ranks about 75 are for fluff purposes only: they don't affect the code, meaning that a rank 75 dagger-wielder is treated exactly the same as a rank 750 knife-artist. This part isn't changing (although other perks for higher ranks might be worth another thread).

What I'd like to see is a two-part system that does the following:

(1) Whenever the emote -skill command is used, a numerical output of the skill rank used is possibly visible to others in the room.

The threshold for seeing it would be based upon a certain formula: if your rank is 10 higher than the other person's, then you could see:
Gavin tests a swing!
Gavin appears to be a grandmaster at sword [75].
For champions, this 10+ requirement would be waived. If you're a champion at a certain skill, you can tell how good anyone else in the game is, because you're just that badass.

(2) Also, I'd like to see a skill handicap system in place. For instance, if you're playing a cripple, or you're testing out an injury, or you're just being clever, you should be able to emote -skill 35 to set how you "appear" at that lower rank.

The caveat is that, if the person watching you has a skill rank much higher (say, 25 ranks) than yours (or, ding-ding, if they're a champion), they can tell that you're holding something back.
Gavin tests a weak swing.
Gavin appears to be competent (35) at sword, but his true skill is apparent. [75]
Thoughts?

I like it in general, but I'd probably adjust the skill handicap thing slightly. Maybe two different levels of it, with different thresholds.

Gavin appears to be competent (35) at sword, but you would guess that he is truly a grandmaster.
I think the idea of pinpointing it enough to a certain rank when they're trying to purposefully conceal what they can do would be a bit farfetched.

Overall, I like this. There are times when you want to seem less than you actually are, be it combat, crafting, or even magery(kind of including Fecho in this).

And i can see other potentials for the Champion thing, though I still think something special for the Champion would be nice(the 'seeing the truth' behind someone purposefully showing less than they are being a very nice one).
