A redoubling of efforts on part of the Order has been noticed, in
regards to combating the plague. Knights lead physicians, both clergy and
other, to the Southern quarantine zones and volunteer their services
transporting all those sick to appropriate medical care.

Rumor spreads that those with medical knowledge, or other resources, who
wish to assist the plagued in Southside, can gain help and passage there
via the Knights.

A fresh outbreak of the plague Northside seems to be claiming many more
victims, the quarantine ward of Madison rapidly filling with new patients.
Though many individuals have been busy enforcing the quarantine - the
Knights and the Lady Justiciar personally having escorted multiple sick
individuals in - it seems as if a few sources of contagion escaped, enough
to allow the spread to intensify. Rumors suggest the Cardinal himself may
be among the new slate of victims.

Concern is growing about the long-term outcome of the disease as the number
of the dead enters the triple digits - when will it be ended, and how many
more will have to die first?

Not all the news is bad, however. Ranks of volunteers have swelled the
Madison's overworked staff, helpers from all walks of life having joined
in. While some of these volunteers have joined the rank of the ill, many
of them continue to perform important service as impromptu nurses,
delivering medicines and changing linens.

The most encouraging whispers from the quarantine zones suggest that
Lithmore's most senior physicians are hard at work on a cure. Those who
have visited the Southside Almshouse can testify that experimental
treatments in use there appear to be having some beneficial effects, though
it's too early to be sure.

In the meantime, patients continue to battle for their lives...

The Merchant's Guild wishes to announce that the winner of the Fishing
Contest is Maxwell le Wattkil and his assistant Page Bryce Talicson, having
brought in a fish so large it nearly out-weighed the Grand Magnate!

All submissions are in the process of being prepared as meals and rations
for donation, and a fond thank you goes out to the generous, determined
fishermen of Lithmore.

Members of the church have been a frequent sight at the hospital since
the plague began, offering pastoral care to the victims along with last
rites and 11th hour confessions for those that fear they are on their
deathbeds.

Riding the heels of initial rumors, some good news has come out of the
quarantines: the physicians' newest treatment has proven successful in
combating the virulent illness plaguing Lithmore.

Both the Madison Hospital and Southside's Almshouse report fewer deaths
every day but it isn't all positive; the treatment itself is fairly
involved and stretches two to three days, so it is hard on a patient.
Those with weaker constitutions, or who have already passed into the latter
stages of the illness may still be beyond the reach of this new cure.

Still, the tide is turning. The number of new cases is decreasing and
those seeking help at the medical centers have a much greater chance of
leaving again on their own two feet. Unfortunately, the same cannot be
said for those who avoided quarantine.

On the day of Septembris 14th, the young woman Silth Thorn, was taken to
the pyre for the crime of extreme heresy. Rumor has it that she fought
each step of the way to the pyre, and it took two Inquisitors to secure her
there, cursing the Holy Order each step of the way.

Alas, for all her struggles, Miss Thorn succumbed to the flames before the
eyes of Lithmore, with the prayers for her soul upon the lips of the many
who gathered to witness her cleansing.

The Palace was abuzz recently with the news that a betrothal contract
between her Royal Majesty Queen Caitrin ab Samael, daughter of her Highness
Cellan ab Samael and Rogelio de Montford, son of Duke Cameron de Montford
has been finalized. While the details of the contract have not been
released, there have been rumors that at least some members of the Privy
Council are quite pleased with the results of the negotiations.

Her Highness Cellan ab Samael and High Steward Tomas ab Jinosa traveled to
Musgat to meet with the Duke de Montford and were hosted by Garrith de
Versin, brother to Lady Justiciar Brynieve de Versin. The only statement
issued came from the office of the High Steward. He said: We are pleased
to announce the completion of negotiations and the formal betrothal of her
Royal Majesty Queen Caitrin ab Samael to Rogelio de Montford. Farin has
always been a strong ally of Lithmore and this marks another chapter of
such for our Kingdom.

Amidst worries of those who might be breaking quarantine while still
having the plague, new word has begun to spread for parents who are
inflicted with the plague. Facilities have begun to appear funded by the
Crown and other organization in the city to provide for the children of
those who have the plague and must go into quarantine. Parents need not
fear that their children will be left alone if they go and get appropriate
care. Whether northside or southside, the notices suggest, children will
be cared for while parents recover from the plague.

All who have been holding back on seeking care are highly encouraged to go
to the nearest quarantine zone and inform those who are on staff of their
children that need care. They will be connected with a care facility until
the parents are ready to take their children back.

The efficacy of new treatment measures for the plague is beginning to
show long-lasting fruit, the wards of Madison and the Southside Almshouse
emptying beds far faster than they are filling them - and the majority of
those empty beds due to recovery, not death. While some cases linger,
either those who caught it late or those who are not responding well to
treatment, the outbreak itself appears to be edging towards an end.

The remission is helped by the fact that the promise of the new treatments
has lulled the few quarantine-avoiders into the wards, alongside rigorous
enforcement of the quarantine courtesy of the Knights and Reeves - fewer
and fewer new cases are being reported every day, with the vast majority of
them reflecting volunteers who have succumbed rather than brand-new
infections.

No previously infected individual who returned as a volunteer has been
re-infected, though some individuals who pushed themselves too hard before
fully recovering have fallen prey to relapses.

Lithmore stands hopeful on the edge of an end to the epidemic.
