On the evening of the 18th of Maritus, a large crowd of emaciated and
injured individuals stumbled into Lithmore through the West Gate. They
promptly proceeded to overwhelm the Madison Hospital's capacity, doctors
and orderlies alike kept busy throughout the night and into the morning.

While it is not yet known precisely what happened, confused rumors suggest
these people are none other than the inhabitants of the Farin Quarter,
rescued by some strange circumstance from the shadowy veil blotting it. It
appears only about ten to fifteen percent of the Quarter's pre-disaster
population has made it out, however, and that small percent seems heavily
damaged in both body and mind.

The flood of refugees from the Farin Quarter has been greeted with an
immediate response. The old Daravi refugee camp, constructed to house the
Edessans during their processing by the Reeves and Order, has been
repurposed by Reeve forces to house the survivors. Initial emergency
provisions are being provided by generous citizens from the Bear and Boar.

Given the continuing winter and the weak state of the refugees, further
measures will be required to ensure their long-term recovery, but the
immediate problem of their housing and starvation has been addressed.

(OOC: The old refugee camp has been reopened in Rolling Plains, just west of
the West Gate. Feel free to go there and RP, and drop a plot advance if you
provide particular help or assistance.)

On Maritus the 22nd, two strange pulses of energy swept through Lithmore
- similar to those that had been felt shortly before the Endless Night
finally ended and on the day the Orphanage burned down.

These ones also signified considerable changes in Lithmore. The snow that
had been falling for weeks began to slacken, and within two days had
stopped - the wild winds have died off as well, leaving the air calmer and
clearer.

More dangerously, if still welcome, spring is at last coming to Lithmore.
The temperature is warming, causing the ice and snow clogging the city to
melt. While this helps the plague of individuals freezing in the street,
many uneasy eyes are watching the state of the river. Some measures have
already been taken to prevent against flooding, but only time will tell if
they will be successful...

Late in the evening word spread that yet another of the noble of the
lands has arrived. Those escorting the carriage through the city were
wearing the colors and sigils of House Blackwell, from Gailiech March.
Carriage drapes parted to reveal the occupants inside, a young blonde woman
dressed in finery amd her attendants. More quickly than her arrival it
spread that the newly titled daughter of the Blackwell house was the one
who was bore in that carriage.

It was kept fairly hush otherwise, no one knowing with any sort of
certainty for her arrival in the break of winter. Many a smith hoping for
a momentary drop in their prices, amidst the busy bodies who whispered
their thoughts and rumors elsewise.

_________________________________________________________________________
Spring has just barely began to peek its happy face across a relieved
city when news of a different vein ripples through the gossip circles and
takes the fancy of many: a Countess from the east has arrived in Lithmore
City! Young Farra dul Baildona, the recent heiress of Hevstina county in
Vavard, travelled across the thawing roads after the extended winter kept
her boat in the Eastgale harbor. A question grips socialites for the
nature of the visit: it is widely spoken that she has taken the finest
rooms at an inn on Iolade Avenue and that arrangements have been made for
her to study at the university -- but surely a Countess must have other
motives!

Unmarried and without any publicly known relatives in the city, the most
common rumor is that she has come to Lithmore City to wed a wealthy lord of
the region to drag back to Vavard and profit from, but everything from
marriage to reports that she intends to extend the Baildana's wealth into
the Merchant Guild of the city to accusations that she in some way insulted
Duke Loren dul Acris and fled Vavard ahead of his wrath is whispered by
those who want to ignore the desolate situation of the Farin Quarter and
instead return to the types of gossip easier to digest.

Regardless of any rumor, the fact remains: Countess Farra dul Baildana has
come to Lithmore, and beyond any reasons why one question is asked: when
and if will she present herself to the Lithmorran Court.

With the weather easing, another noble house makes their arrival into
Lithmore. Travelling overland after wintering in Vandago, the le
Rousselles of Crestley in Tubor arrive in Lithmore City along with the
usual entourage of servants and hangers-on. While the aging,
thrice-married baron himself remains at home, his new young wife, Baroness
Margaux has arrived to represent the house and accompany his two young
daughters and expose them to life in the seat of the kingdom.

This represents a homecoming of sorts for the Baroness, who hails
originally from the Lithmorran barony of Rosewood where her brother rules.
Up until her marriage, she is said to have served as the court bard for
Rosewood's court and has helped bring the culture and arts to her new home
in the Isles.

_________________________________________________________________________
On the morning of Aprilis 4, the rampant stag of House ab Sidharr was
sighted coming northwards from Elcaster. In its wake, surrounded by a
contingent of knights and framed by the banners and pennons of her House,
was its newly-ascended Baroness, Danae ab Sidharr. Bystanders noted that
the young blonde-- riding on horseback, attended by a Farin knight of
monolithic proportions-- was barely past her En Passant, and speculation
was rife as to her purpose for visiting the Capitol.

While many wonder what lies in store for the descendent of Dav's Seneschal,
others doubt that a girl so young, barely come into adulthood, can
successfully take the reins of an ancient and illustrious House. The only
thing certain is that many eyes are focused on the young woman as she
enters the main stage of Lithmore's political arena.

_________________________________________________________________________
On the morning of Aprilis the 19th, one more of the shockwaves that had
swept the city four times since the Endless Night resounded through the
air. This time, its cause was almost immediately apparent: the Farin
Foreign Quarter had been freed from its shadowy nightmare.

What was revealed by the lifting of the dark, however, was not a more
pleasant dream.

Bodies are strewn all over the streets, numbering in the hundreds; some are
reduced to mere skeletons, others look disturbingly fresh. Many of its
landmark buildings either are in total ruins or have been ransacked of all
their supplies at best.

That said, at least the strange and ill-omened blackness is finally gone,
and the last traces of lingering magic seem to have fled Lithmore...

An Outpouring of Support for the Farin Refugees

The old Daravi camp is in use again, this time for the former inhabitants
of the Farin Foreign Quarter, but the general atmosphere around the
situation could hardly be more different. Support is pouring in to help
the dispossessed individuals from nearly every avenue possible.

Between the efforts of the Bear and Boar (prepared by a young employee
named Galen Fairweather), the Crown's treasuries, and a generous shipment
of Musgat dairy goats from the Lady Justiciar Brynieve de Versin, the
refugees are eating well and recovering from their long months of
starvation.

Issues of health and disease have been well-seen-to by the Physicians, with
multiple doctors and orderlies coming to tend the refugees' injuries. The
worst-injured individuals have been taken to the Hospital in an effort
coordinated between multiple guilds. Spiritual health has been ably
handled by the Order, with the Grand Inquisitor overseeing blessings,
confession and counsel for those most shaken by the horrors that they
witnessed.

The refugees, as well as the orphans dispossessed by the orphanage's
destruction, have also been offered gainful employment to rebuild their
savings - an opportunity many of the least-injured have hastened to take
advantage of. Some are accepting offered jobs with the merchants, and
others have been hired for a critical infrastructure project: a tremendous
quantity of sandbags has been produced and placed along the River Bren,
with coin provided by the Crown for every sandbag installed. The
preparation seems likely to pay off, as the massive snowbanks left behind
by the lengthy winter continue to melt (slowly, given their size.)

Even the clothing of the refugees has received some attention, with a local
hunter (one Azi Stepej, according to rumor) donating a wealth of pelts and
leather used to reinforce fraying outfits and replace torn cloaks.

This level of care has gone a long way toward modifying initially strident
complaints rising from the camp about being housed in an area originally
meant for the Daravi. Several of the most outspoken Fariners complained at
great length, but given the support and concern demonstrated for their
welfare, positive commentary seems to be replacing the griping. The return
of the Farin Quarter to accessibility has only improved relations as well,
and talk has already begun of the refugees re-settling their devastated
neighborhoods.

All in all, the future appears bright for those who survived the horrors of
the Quarter's isolation.
