How should guildskills be structured?

Poll ended at Sun Apr 28, 2013 7:17 pm

No guildskills, skills should just be skills everyone has easy access to, and the guilds should just have to deal.

Restrict guildskills to guilds because it is thematic for them to have an advantage in this space.

Restrict guildskills over rank 36, but otherwise allow normal access to players.

I agree 100% with Takta and Geras: I really dislike this massive XP penalty, as it's made it really hard for me to do much beyond stringently save every scrap of xp I have. I think it's totally reasonable that you should be able to learn a skill up to 36 with no extra penalty; beyond that, if you ICly seek out a guilded character and ask them to give you lessons in return for money/returned skills/whatever, then that's totally fair. It generates more RP, and provides another avenue by which people can make connections with other guilds.

Given how XP is calculated on TI, I think it makes far more sense to address guildskills by restrictions on how the are learned than by additional XP costs.

Also, some skills (like thieves' cant) need some sort of restriction as a guildskill for them to have meaning.

As a result of the OOC Chat, we've reverted to the model where guildskills are restricted from rank 37 on. That is, you can (for MOST, but not all - cant and Eld are still fully restricted) LBU up to 36.

At rank 36, if you wish to advance further in a guildskill, you will need to find a teacher. XP costs have been refunded.
