Here here for branching out from animal fats:
My suggestion would be this would produce a "unit of generic fat:"
Name : Vegetable Oil
Known recipe
Skill: Cooking
Ranks required: 10
Steps taken : 6
Energy spent : 3 (18 total)
Consumed:
1x avocado
Or 1x Capuan olive
Or 1x Coconut
Or 1x Any Nuts
Produced:
2x a shiny puddle of vegetable oil
Other required components:
1x mortar and pestle

I like this. Perhaps require a set of clay bottles as well so it can be in a bottle rather than a puddle?

+1 for adding additional fat options.
+1 for Livia's suggestion too; 'a measure of vegetable oil' or something to that effect seems appropriate.
I don't want to hijack the post but I wonder if, as part of this, we might look at letting suet work as a cooking fat too, possibly with the addition of a recipe to render it into something usable. Right now, I believe the amount of tallow you get far outpaces its use in candles, so this would bring value to a common byproduct.

There's currently a really low level (4) craft to turn suet into tallow which is usable as a fat in stuff.
1314) Tallow from Suet [4]:
Consumes 1x a lump of hard, white suet

Thanks! Missed this with craft_ -search tallow. I wonder if the new system of types will muck with this sort of thing.
