Guild code is rigid, old and outdated. Staff are planning some changes so that ranks actually become their own entity, affiliated with a guild. Ranks will then become "roles" and have permissions, like which commands they can use (can they spend guild funds? promote or demote other members? Create new roles in the guild? use a guild header/footer on their mail...?) directly attached to the rank.
In doing this, we're pondering:
1) should players be able to purchase directly into a guild on chargen?
2) if yes, what should they use to purchase? XP? QP? Kitteh pics?
3) if yes, what should happen to 'Seeking' a guild in game? Anything?

Seeking and the future of Guild Roles
Yes. Pretty much can already do this as long as a role is open! Alas, I would model it on how other, subjectively stricter, RPIs assign roles, by using a numerical indicator assigned by staff to gauge a person's RP quality. It's debated that these systems degrade into favoritism, and that there really is no sure-fire way to judge how much a person contributes, RP-wise, to the game. I, however, think we have a good system with recommends. So, make jumping into an Inquisitor role cost so many recommends. That way the person is free to use their QP and XP to enhance their character and flesh out their role, rather than pay something that will take time (rather than quality) to accrue, time that many of us don't have to commit to the game.
I don't think seeking should be change at all. It's a great system, and allows for people to change guild or seek other guilds.
