A Comfortable Room
[Perfect]
A plethora of gaily coloured silk pillows with fringes and tassels
completely conceal the floor. A large pillow in the corner stands out, a
brooding black mass of velvet and fringeless. Screens of nature scenes
painted with the spare strokes of a brush that hint at and outline the
subjects, leaving much to the imagination. Behind the screens, silk
curtains and sheets painted with bright patterns hide the walls, pulled
back only around the windows that pierce the southern and western walls to
look out over a lush garden filled with an untamed riot of plants and
trees.

Karrin states, "OOC Chat Rules:
- Approach each topic with the mindset that each person is doing the best they can with the
knowledge they have, staff and player alike.
- Please avoid topics around current events. Nothing should be revealed in an OOC meeting that
others would prefer to find out in game ICly.
- This is not the correct forum for criticism of a specific player or a topic centered around one
player. If there are concerns about a specific player, please address that with staff privately.
- This is not the correct forum for bringing up policy violations. If there are instances of
perceived policy violations, please address that with staff privately."
Karrin queries, "Alright, now that's out of the way, how has RP been this week?"
Rosethorn sneezes loudly.
Meiari exclaims, "Busy! Very busy! Been all over grid like five times, and it's been worth it"
Rosethorn exclaims, "It's been pretty great! Lots of new faces to interact with"
Karrin states, "We have had a delicious number of cyans wandering around."
Sororitas states, "Bless you! RP was pretty good and busy and some learning! So all and all not
bad."
BoyNextDoor states, "With the amount of times it's rained I'm glad to have a towel"
Rambling states, "Haven't been up and about much, getting myself sorted out IRL and its been
exhausting."
Sororitas states, "Should say great. Not bad undersells it lol."
Scarry claims, "Iii."
Scarry says, "Uh."
Scarry says, "Came back yesterday."
Scarry states, "And unforeseen circumstances made me behave like a silly idiot today. "
Scarry states, "So I guess it went alright."
Karrin muses, "Good to hear! Anyone have any topics, outside of the topic I have set aside for
Temi?"
Eleanor says, "As a cyan, everyone has been very welcoming with their roleplay. I have tried to push
social boundaries a little bit and haven't received any warns."
Eleanor says, "Which I'm not sure if that tells me I'm not pushing hard enough, or I should be
warned and haven't been."
HIEROPHANT claims, "I think just my usual occasional reminder about recommends, given all the new
folks."
Karrin states, "Depends which social boundaries you push, and if it puts you in actual danger."
Hibiscus declaims, "Everyone has been very welcoming both IC and OOC, which is appreciated!"
Karrin states, "Warns are specific to danger, or escalating danger. If you're just weird, they'll
probably brush it off. If you're climbing in a noble's lap and gyrating and risking lashing or
arrest, then a warn will come."
Eleanor says, "Mostly being brusque, I think mostly I've been pressing on deferring proper respect
to nobility or titled positions. Which is said in a help file to risk lashing, but perhaps I
overestimated."
Karrin claims, "Depends on the noble."
Eleanor claims, "Some calibration is required."
Eeel claims, "You could get a lashing depending on the noble."
Meiari states, "Our nobles currently tend to correct then lash... presently. It does depend on the
noble."
Scarry claims, "There are also some dorks who outright refuse to be shown respect."
Gordon queries, "Is the stance on cyan warning, rather one too many than one too few?"
Karrin claims, "Alright! If there are no topics, I'll let Dorothy begin, then I'll go, and then I'll
bring up Temi's topic."
Dorothy pontificates, "Well! I've had a good time helping the merchants - look at Finlay's wares,
did a handful of recommends - shameless plug to submit more please, and have been sitting on some
build requests like they are eggs trying to make more. Thats apparently not how that works - my
apologies. I swear there was some other learning opportunity I had but I don't remember!"
Meiari states, "Thank you once again for the help"
Karrin wonders, "Uhh... portals?"
Dorothy declares, "PORTALS!"
Rosethorn says, "We love portals"
Ikeala states, "I do love a good portal."
Dorothy finishes abruptly, "That was fun - I now understand why mages like them so much"
Dorothy encourages more portal making.
Karrin claims, "I have been mostly handling side things this week. I have a list of books that I
need to process, my apologies for the extra time for that. And I have been communicating with
someone to get the game server moved, and after that is done, the website server moved. A couple
policy things. Mostly administrative and boring."
Eeel prays moving the server doesn't break anything.
Karrin pontificates, "Me, too!"
Rosethorn bows her head and makes the sign of the Chalice.
Dorothy says, "I have a lot of faith in our fearless leader and spaghetti eating coders"
Karrin says, "Ok, hold for Temi's topic, I'll post fast and furiously."
Karrin states, "So, it's come to our attention that there's been some confusion around the rules for
using coded ingredients in crafting, so we wanted to have a short chat about that today. "
Karrin claims, "We have a lot of flexibility in our crafting system, and we want players to feel
free to use creativity in how they string things. In general, we haven't coded up every ingredient
that would exist ICly, and we don't expect you to use every one that does exist beyond those
required for the recipes in every situation. In a lot of cases, embellishing should be done where
it adds fun and flavor, not for policy, and stringing just has to follow the rough template of the
item."
Karrin claims, "Now, for where it is needed by policy, I would like to start by drawing your
attention to help coded ingredients. This lays out which items you need to provide the specific
item to be able to string it as that."
Karrin says, "If the ingredient is mentioned in the file, you need to use that specific object,
either as an ingredient in the recipe when you make it or as an embellishment, to string it with it.
So since sea silk is in the list, you can't string your silk dress as using sea silk unless you use
an actual sea silk object. But since rosewood is not on the list on its own - only mentioned as a
fine wood in the help wood file - as long as you use fine wood, you can tool it as rosewood without
having an actual rosewood object."
Karrin says, "And just a reminder that there *are* other items out there with special appraise
messages that are not protected coded ingredients. Things like event items or appraises purchased
with QP. You shouldn't try to deliberately copy someone else's unique item, but definitely feel
free to take your own version of things, and no one should claim that they have any sort of monopoly
over tooling something because of a QP purchase. It is possible to gain limited monopolies over
some of the coded ingredients through asset resources - but those are the ones specifically called
out in the helpfile."
Karrin claims, "On that note, just a reminder that our nobles can work with staff to create a single
new coded ingredient unique to their domain to be added to the resource system. This is how things
like Ird cotton, Beresfield sand and Lothos honey were created. These are created as coded
ingredients, since they are designed to be unique things to add RP for the nobles."
Karrin pontificates, "Hopefully that all helps sort out some of the confusion we've been hearing
lately!"
Scarry states, "HUAH"
Karrin states, "Told you. Now, the great pause and read."
Eleanor says, "Kay read."
Eleanor wonders, "Does this mean Moose Meat can be added as an ingredient?"
Karrin claims, "We do not currently have moose in game."
Eleanor states, "If I can't ride one, maybe I can at least eat it."
Rambling claims, "Remembering the crown made of cloth incident of 399 (many dead, oh god the blood)"
HIEROPHANT says, "I suppose moose burgers"
BoyNextDoor states, "I would try moose stew"
Eleanor states, "I like how you prefaced that with "currently", meese have been confirmed."
Freeman states, "I did not know about help coded ingredients. That's good to know."
Karrin says, "Alright, back to topic. Are there any questions? This has come up with questions to
staff several times this week, so we wanted to make sure to clarify."
Hibiscus declaims, "This is a very helpful file to know. Thank you!"
Karrin claims, "I want to emphasize that no one should have any sort of monopoly over tooling a
specific ingredient due to a QP purchase, or a milestone, or something else. Nobles might have a
monopoly over their own special coded ingredients, but that's it."
HIEROPHANT claims, "I do have one"
Karrin claims to HIEROPHANT, "Sure."
Gordon says, "Is the help file for the coded ingredients up to date? Because there are a lot of
woods with @appraise like nightpine for example, that are not on there."
HIEROPHANT says, "What do we do if we find an item that doesn't fit to this policy? The auction
house especially throws up old items often that talk about coded ingredients without having the
flag."
InvestSouthside continues to have a superiority complex over his hoard.
Rosethorn steals the hoard
Scarry trails off, "I think Southside might be a dragon..."
InvestSouthside bites Rosethorn.
Rosethorn cries
Ikeala claims, "Or uses 'shop info' flags to imply it without it being coded right."
Karrin says to HIEROPHANT, "They could pre-date the coding of them. But, if they are in the auction
house, staff has seen them and is aware of them."
Karrin says, "If you find an item, generally, that you feel breaks policy, though, let us know.
We'll look into it. We have the ability to see when it was crafted, and by who."
Karrin says to Gordon, "Nightpine is not a coded ingredient."
Karrin states to Gordon, "It is possible that, at some point, there was someone who bought some of
them through milestone, there was a special event that had them, or had some @app added to them via
QP. But, nightpine specifically is not coded."
HIEROPHANT claims, "Hokay"
Karrin says, "But yes, the helpfile is up to date. Last most recently edited earlier this year for
the newest coded ingredient, just a couple months ago."
Gordon states, "And Macostan oak? That is an npc shop thing."
Karrin has transferred BuzzOven. [OOC]
Gordon claims, "I see."
Karrin states to Gordon, "The Macostan oak was related to a noble, I remember a long time ago. Noble
didn't last very long, we'd likely need Temi's input on that one. Feel free to throw up a typo board
and ask."
BuzzOven says, "Oh a lot of people nice."
Gordon says, "Okay. I will."
Dorothy gives a plush thundercloud, trailing a raindrop-embroidered towel to BuzzOven.
Karrin claims, "I don't see it as a coded ingredient, though."
BuzzOven pontificates, "Nice towel, thanks!"
Gordon says, "I checked. It's Macostan oak is on there. I just can't read. T-T"
Dorothy finishes abruptly, "It is, just like ivory, capuan carnival glass, farin cotton - those are
all obtainable on grid as well"
Karrin claims, "Wait, no, it is there. Yeah, I just looked, too."
HIEROPHANT says, "We should have a coded ingredient for items made with human skin."
Sororitas trails off, "I... well..."
Karrin has transferred Calivion. [OOC]
Karrin says, "But, no, Nightpine is not a coded ingredient."
Dorothy gives a plush thundercloud, trailing a raindrop-embroidered towel to Calivion.
BuzzOven claims, "Excellent. I can play my Ed Gein concept. "
Karrin queries, "Ok, any other questions?"
Ikeala scoots away from BuzzOven.
Sororitas asks, "Just to make sure it's clarified. Spices call out not being needed unless you use
them in the short desc. That's only for the spices and not all coded ingredients right?"
Karrin says to BuzzOven, "The colors in your OOC name are... a choice, by the way. I applaud your
boldness. And am considering dimming my screen."
Karrin says to Sororitas, "If they are anywhere in the description for usual tooling, they are
needed."
KindledFlames muses, "To add to hierophants comment... demon skin coded ingredient?"
Rosethorn claims, "Sorry, my internet went out briefly but I did have a question related to the
macostan"
HIEROPHANT says, "Ooh, I agree."
Karrin states, "Omitting something from the short description but utilizing it in the full
description will not mean you don't have to use it."
Karrin claims, "If you want your item to BE that thing, you will use it. Even if you don't use it in
that 59 characters."
Sororitas nods and says. "Ok good. Cause I've seen some like furniture or swords long ago like that
and wanted to make sure that was explicit."
Sororitas claims, "Long ago as in when I first joined.."
Rosethorn questions, "There's a level 71 art recipe (1490) that calls out a 'Macostan Marionette'
but could you make like other marionettes with other wood? "
HIEROPHANT claims, "Some antiques by default call themselves jadewood or bloodwood but have no way
to include those ingredients in them."
Sororitas states, "I think Macostan Marionettes are called that cause they were invented there not
cause of the wood."
Rosethorn claims, "Oh. lmao that would make sense I guess"
Karrin says to Rosethorn, "Yes. The Macostan isn't referring to the wood, I think it's refering to
Macosta."
Karrin states, "The place."
Rosethorn declaims, "That answers my question then!"
Karrin says to HIEROPHANT, "If they are antiques that are able to be manipulated by the woodworking
skill, they're assumed to be what they say they are. Coded tha tway."
HIEROPHANT says, "Right on"
Sororitas pontificates, "Neat!"
Calivion claims, "Yeah I have been down that road with those antiques"
Karrin asks, "Alrighty. Any other questions?"
Calivion pontificates, "And the order doesn't get to look at woodworkers funny for having antique
bloodwood jewelery boxes. We aren't heretics!"
KindledFlames still looks at Cal funny.
Meiari declares, "Correct - the person who had it -first- was the heretic! Merchants are simply
reuse, recycle"
Gordon states, "I think the jewelry box base item is still missing from the antique shop. T-T"
HIEROPHANT states, "If you want other stuff made out of bloodwood, though, you can always write me a
letter-"
Sororitas declares, "I'm onto you Calivion! I know what you do in that workshop of yours!"
Calivion claims, "Get high off of varnish and beeswax"
Karrin claims, "Anyway. We had several conversations - I can think of about two or three different
players this week, on special ingredients. So, Temi wanted to address it. She just had something
else to do, so couldn't be here for it."
Sororitas baps HIEROPHANT with a rolled up newspaper.
Karrin questions, "Any other questions?"
Temi skips in down a rainbow, which sparkles away behind her. [OOC]
Scarry exclaims, "Hi Temi!"
Eeel declaims, "Temi!!"
Eleanor declaims, "Oh shit it's the fuzz, run!"
Karrin says, "I'll let Temi address any last things. Including the human skin and demon skin."
Meiari hides the contraband from temi.
Karrin claims to Dorothy, "My -towel-, pls."
Dorothy gives a plush thundercloud, trailing a raindrop-embroidered towel to Karrin.
Karrin pouts in pitiful.
Sororitas eagerly anticipates a demonskin cloak.
HIEROPHANT claims, "Epic"
Temi declares, "Hi! I am still mobile in the car, but heading home from chocolate "
KindledFlames waves to Temi, "TEMI! We arent causing issues."
Rosethorn states, "Oooh chocolate"
KindledFlames eats a smooth and velvety dark chocolate fudge with Lothos honey.
BuzzOven says, "Now I want to bind books in both human and demon skin, but fill them with innocent
children's rhymes. "
Ikeala says, "This one, right here Inquisitor."
Karrin says, "There were a couple of Temi-specific questions outside the human skin and demon skin.
Try to remember those, and ask her in a moment after she deals with the biggies there."
Scarry claims, "I need an adult."
Sororitas summons 20 demons to kill them and then use their skin to write an illuminated manuscript
by tattooing the flesh.
Temi queries, "But there is human skin. you mean you haven't been skinning human bodies?"
Dorothy says, "They want a special @app coded ingredient version"
HIEROPHANT says, "We want human and demon skin to be coded ingredients, explicitly."
KindledFlames sits silently, like the definite innocent child she is.
Meiari trails off, "You all need Dav..."
Freeman states, "I have a mighty need to have a noble with human skin as their resource."
Eleanor muses, "Can you crackle human flesh just like pork flesh?"
Sororitas says, "Well some do. Though it also comes with a live person. It's called slavery."
Hibiscus is no longer idle.
Hibiscus has returned from AFK.
Temi says, "Oh, as as @appraise? I don't see why not. if it gets used"
HIEROPHANT says, "Yeah. And on the list that makes it a no-no to tool things as such without using
the proper item."
KindledFlames claims, "I am just thinking they would be good to have as coded ingredients with
@apps. It not only gives people a reason, but also could out someone being dumb"
Meiari whistles innocently as she readies the tanning vats.
Sororitas says, "Great... can't wait to take the human skin leather body suit into evidence."
Freeman trails off, "It puts the lotion on it's skin..."
Rosethorn understand that corpse resource now...
Karrin wonders, "Ok, So, Tamira had one that she sent via tell, but it's perfectly ok for the
everyone setting, go ahead and ask that. And then, there was one more that came out here that I said
we'd need Temi for. Anyone remember?"
Temi muses, "Someone want to add a typo note for the human skin? for the demon skin, it has not
been good at lasting in general "
HIEROPHANT says, "Macostan oak"
Karrin says to HIEROPHANT, "Oh, but then we found it in coded ingredients."
Karrin claims, "Yeah, ok, that one resolved."
Karrin says, "So just Tamira's, then."
Ikeala muses, "At some point it was standard for noble resources to be added on grid, but that seems
no longer policy/standard. Is that expected?"
Sororitas trails off, "I would love more Beresfield sand..."
Temi says, "They should be added in some manner, sometimes as purchasable resources rather than
other shops and things, depending what it is"
Meiari muses, "To help with noble rp, would that be a 'added to grid once they aren't around'
or...?"
Karrin claims, "I think I'd be alright as a resource, I don't know if I'd want just unlimited
available on grid. Makes the next noble not have a real actual benefit to having it if it's just
available in a shop."
InvestSouthside says, "Asglen wool is a loadable, so not unlimited but loads with high economics I
think"
Sororitas claims, "Could make it way more expensive in the import shop. Like 2 or 3 or 10 times
even. Make it worth going to the noble still."
Karrin says, "That is also something I'd be comfortable with - a high metric thing. Just not... in a
shop available all the time."
InvestSouthside trails off, "I think that's what is meant by the question. So it would be added to
the respective shops inventory as a rare load... yeah"
Sororitas claims, "That makes sense."
Temi claims, "And whether the noble may want to be an importer, for example. Reloads on metrics is
another possibility "
Karrin nods.
Karrin claims, "I don't want to have a situation where we have to take away something from the grid
because a noble comes on that should have it at their fingertips - but it becomes useless because
everyone else already has it. Nobles don't really get too many real perks, that's one of them. I
don't want to take that away from them."
Temi states, "It should be in the resource system already"
Ikeala claims, "Sometime we might need a way to nom up old metrics loads, the ever growing pile of
pineapples at the Bountiful Table as example."
Calivion says, "I need to go to the Bountiful Table more often, clearly."
Karrin states, "Someone needs to really love pineapples and go buy them all up."
Sororitas pontificates, "I didn't know that was a thing!"
Sororitas leaves down to buy pineapples.
Freeman says, "Put them on a flatbread with tomatoes and cheeze."
Calivion says, "I'll totally buy Tubori wine if people want to use the pineapples for it. I am
pretty sure that is one use for them."
Meiari says, "Same."
Karrin questions, "Alrighty, any other questions before I send you all back?"
Eleanor muses, "Can Southside have a pony?"
InvestSouthside claims, "I have the biggest of ponies actually"
Rambling is idle.
Calivion claims, "The best ponies come from the Davless Heathens"
Sororitas claims, "I think the person who made the desc for his pony is really good at it."
Karrin says, "Alright, I'll take that as a 'we're done'. You all have a good week, and we'll talk
again next week."
