Tallow from Suet

Could the small clay jug of caustic lye be removed from the recipe Tallow from Suet?

Tallow is just made by heating fat (suet) until it renders. Adding lye would turn it into soap, and the soap recipes already have lye as an ingredient.

Maybe replace it with needing a stick or piece of wood or something for stoking up/maintaining the fire if the idea is a cost balance thing?

In the thread, "(Character) hardens the tallow by addition of the caustic lye." could be changed to "(Character) lets the tallow cool and harden." perhaps.
