Could combat perhaps treat range a bit better? It seems silly that you can't even swing a mace if someone right next to you. Might not be the best weapon at close range, but a big stick can still do damage.

We'd need a schema for reduced damage at various ranges. As it is, we haven't produced one, and just because you can swing a mace doesn't mean it'd do any damage at all - if it wouldn't why pretend it has or did? By being pretty up front that it won't do anything, it does encourage people to move to the proper ranges.

Trouble is you can end up in a situation where it's actually impossible to get to the correct range if your opponent(s) play correctly. In that case, your opponents might as well be invisible, since you can do about as much in combat as if they were.

Even if your swings are only two thirds or half as effective as normal, I'd argue that from a theme/RP perspective this is preferable to standing in one spot getting beat on like an idiot.

Can you post an example of this? Like, how an opponent can 'play their cards right' and consistently hit you without ever being hit in return?
