I think I'm missing something here... so mooks will basically be hired on by guilds? For example, a Reeve guard would be a mook?

If so, I'd put a limit on what areas they can go in to, or if they can even follow players after the player sends the initial 'guard so and so' command. Else wise you may get the problem of a Reeve leading his five mooks down into Southside.

Which... well... actually, that's not a problem. No problem at all! As long as the code can handle mass mob battles =P

However, as for the 'limit', I really don't think it should be five. We're talking about guilds, the most powerful organizations here. Realistically, nobles should be able to hire dozens of helping hands. Yes, it might be overpowered, but what the hell else are they going to spend their money on besides fancy clothing? Money = power.

Mooks are like pets that anyone in a given guild can pick up and order around, set to specific tasks, etc. They'll perform their duties automatically, or can be puppetted by a guild member.

Some things they used to do:

- patrol a particular route
- spy (theoretically, I don't think the code actually worked)
- backup in scenes (that puppet thing)

I saw someone suggesting rumors. I wonder what else. *ponder*

How about a list that people can add names, or short descriptions to, for the mooks to auto attack? This would facilitate both mobs in Southside attacking people that the Tenebrae says they should attack, as well as let the Reeves add wanted criminals to a list, even if they are cloaked. (I.E. the availability to add short descs would be mostly for cloaked individuals. So they could add 'a voluminous black robe with scarlet leather accents' and if Tenebrae were cloaked in the robe he'd be auto attacked).

Kinda a big demand, for the short desc thing.

As stated in the mood types thread, I thought of another possibility for mooks: fielding PC inquiries.

What if you could assign mooks to a location where they can provide some limited information? For example, there's a crime in the bank. The Reeves set a mood about how the bank is closed for an investigation and they set a mook before the door with an appropriate action. (Maybe he even has the power to block players from moving in a certain direction?)

Reeve Mook is here, turning people away from the bank.

> inquire <mook>
Olivia asks <mook> about what is going on.
Reeve Mook informs Olivia, "Sorry, the bank is off-limits pending an investigation. I'm here to keep everyone away from the door."

> inquire authority
Olivia asks after who is in charge.
Reeve Mook informs Olivia, "This investigation is headed by the Reeves. If you have further questions or any information about the incident, please contact the Justiciar."

I could see something like this being used for things like scavenger hunts and even newbie tours around the city.

Newbie information ports would be really really really awesome. I know as a new player it took a very long time to get to know the place. I know a couple of really strong RPer friends I've tried to introduce but without me here to guide them by the hand. But they are sorta the people who needs to always be achieving goals. I think sending them on a newbie 'quest' might keep them better engaged.

I love goals!

It wouldn't even have to be a quest, really. Just an NPC stating some theme information, then saying 'go here for more!' or 'here's a cool place you can go as well!'. Sounds pretty cool, to me.

I haven't gotten an NPC follower yet so I don't know if this stuff was put in or not. Can't find a helpfile for it. I would really, really love it if it was put in before a lot of other stuff though! Really think this could add a lot to the game. Plus, then Knights and Reeves wouldn't have to put a mood saying 'this area is guarded'. They could actually have somebody guarding it.
