I got my first one today (whee!) and I was excited to accept it, but the text was as follows:
Personal Event: Noah heard some news about Kyri. It could very well just be the rumormill doing its deal, but he should probably just make sure...
Unfortunately, Kyri's been gone for about a year, and I don't feel comfortable making up news about her, and I didn't know her that well in RP either.
So perhaps instead of using specific names from the remember list, pevents could use "A friend" or other generic terms? This way, the player's free to choose the person who would be the most fun, and it'd avoid getting pevents about dead/gone people all the time. Probably 3/4 of my older PCs' remember lists are folks that'll never come back.
Tweak to pevents
I don't know if it's possible, but what about having a separate pvent that intentionally chooses characters that are inactive and encourages the player to try and learn something of their story/whereabouts? I like this as a way of forming lasting history through mining PC/Player memories.
I do like the idea of the more generic "a friend" example as well, but if it CAN just be tweaked to only pull an active name for this pvent (maybe active within the last 6 weeks as marked on whois?), I think that would still be preferable on the idea that it's encouraging the player to possibly stretch beyond their own friends list and learn about or interact with somebody new.
