A strange party arrived in Lithmore today, armed and mounted men and
women, dusky, dusty and tall. They flew the banner of the great elephant,
triumphantly holding aloft the sun: the sigil of the Ducal House de
Montford of Farin. The group, twenty-three in all, had clearly been riding
some time, and they went immediately to the Montford compound.

Later, presumably after a period of rest, a militaristic woman emerged to
announce to an anxious palace herald. His Grace, the Duke of Farin has
sent a presence to Lithmore to oversee the disputed regency and ensure that
Farin's interests are seen to. In this, he has nominated his cousin, the
Baron Dareios de Montford of Jambellya. The Lord Baron does not intend to
nominate himself in this matter, but will be keeping a close eye on
proceedings over the coming months. With that said, the spokeswoman
returned inside, the door locking and barring to keep curious eyes out.

An Ambitious Influence Event

In the early morning hours of Augustus, 15. Alphos dul Meticus, Patriarch
of House Meticus, sent word across the Kingdom urging his peers to rally
against the Baron le Orban and his pursuit of the Regency.

These are harrowing times for our Kingdom. Our beloved Regent, Lady ab
Chevalier suffered an untimely end at the hands of a coward and our Kingdom
has become divided once again in a mad grasp for the Crown.

And yet, We are faced with another threat to the security and prosperity of
our realm. Lord Ariel le Orban dul Damassande has stepped forward to
announce his nomination for the Regency before Lady ab Chevalier's body
could be interred and put to rest. Ariel le Orban has made great efforts
for his accomplishments to be known and has used his privelege as a
nobleman to keep his faults obscured. However, I will be releasing a
number of letters revealing the Lord le Orban's true nature to the
Electoral Council. These letters will show the true depravity of this man
and the manner in which he'll see his ambitions fulfilled. Threats, lies,
and slander come as easily to him as breathing. Therefore, I must beg the
question. Is this the man you wish to lead our great Kingdom?

If you feel as I do, you will join me in opposition of Lord le Orban's bid
and ensure Lithmore is given the Regent it deserves.

The Lord le Orban released the following statement today:

"A man knows he has a good chance at something when his enemies try so
desperately hard to work against him, with whatever foul means possible.

I have never had need of lies and slander to stop Alphos dul Meticus; I
merely told the truth about his dealings and his ways and allowed others to
judge for themselves. If he has letters that purport to show me engaging
in such tactics, I have no doubt they are naught but forgeries concocted
for this occasion. He clearly seeks to gain 'revenge' for my efforts to
tell others the truth about him, much as he tried to convince the Holy
Inquisition I was a mage in order to see me discredited.

I will not hide my faults: I have a temper, particularly when I witness
wrongdoing, that often leads me to speak sharply to those who engage in
contempible behavior. I find it difficult to compromise with those who
violate the standards of common decency. I will stand for what is right
regardless of the consequences. Indeed, I have fought more than one duel
for truth and righteousness - for example, when Meticus spied on my
personal business, challenged me to a duel for saying he had done so, and
then was forced to admit I told the truth after he could not as easily best
me as he had supposed.

Ultimately, I care not for the stories spun by jealous and petty men whose
interests lie in their bank accounts and not the welfare of the people, but
one particular implication I cannot let stand. I have not disrespected the
Dame ab Chevalier by running; I am certain she would have wished me to
stand up and continue the policies and projects she left unfinished, and
this is the very reason I am in contention. I will be pleased to speak
more on this subject at the debate."

A Modest Influence Event

"Ladies and Gentleman, Nobles, Gentry, and Freeman, and anyone else I have
forgotten to mention.", starts the nobleman, " I am Steffon le Fictis,
Baron of Fort Merdigal of the Tubori Isles. As you have all heard, I have
entered into the run for Regent of our Kingdom. It is at this point that
some will make you promises of what you will get if you choose them for the
Regent. It is now that some will drag the other Nobles through the mud to
make the others seem less than they are, and that they themselves are more
than they truly are."

The nobleman taps on his podium, shaking his head, " I don't know about all
of you, but I don't have time for such tactics. I'll make no promises,
make no slander, take no side. Each of my opponents have good reason to
want to be Regent, each of them a worthy contender, and I hope the best for
each of them."

" So, I leave it to the people; noble, gentry, and freeman alike to choose
or not to choose me on my plan and my person alone." he states to the
crowd, " My plan is economic progress, pure and simple."

" We have untold numbers of trade ships between here and Tubor that are
taken by pirates every year, this weakens our trade, weakens what we can
do, weakens who we are." he says, moving from behind the podium to stand in
plain view, emphasizing his words with his hands, " My plan is to increase
our trade, get escort ships to help fend off these pirates, increase the
speed and quantity of trade between here and Tubor and all points
between."

Looking out amongst the crowd, Steffon speaks in a calmer voice, " But how
will this increased trade affect us, you ask?" He nods, " That is a good
question, increased trade means more coin for everyone, more coin for the
Church to help them spread the good word of our Lord Dav, more coin for the
merchants, more coin to make things for everyone. With increased coin
comes an increase in demand, with an increase in demand of jobs, that means
more work for those without. More coin means better equipment and training
for those that are fighting for you and your families down near the Daravi
line. More coin means better things to make our lives easier."

Shaking his head, the man looks to the crowd, " I make no promises that
this will be an easy task, it is only a goal, one which I believe in. And
Dav willing, if I am chosen for Regent, then this goal will become a
reality."

Then bowing to the crowd, the man says, " Thank you for your time, and Lord
Bless you and yours." then leaving his podium and heading out into the
streets, a few conversations sparked by the man's speech.

A Modest Influence Event

Lady Marisa dul Damassande le Orban, the Chancellor of the Exchequer and
wife to contender for the regency, Lord Ariel le Orban, has released a
statement on the topic of her husband's candidacy.

"It means perhaps little," she writes, "For my husband to have my support
in his desire to attain the regency. However, it is another matter
entirely if he does not have my support, as rumors would suggest. I would
therefore like to make clear that I stand completely behind him in this,
both as his wife and as someone who has served the crown for years."

"I know the Lord Orban perhaps better than anyone else in the city, both
his strengths and his faults. If I were to speak against this, it would be
for concern for him and perhaps worry for the undeserved attacks upon my
family. It could never be because I do not believe he has the necessary
skills, inclination or fortitude to do what the kingdom needs, for he has
proved this through years of service. If anything, the flaw of his which I
have cursed the most is his desire to do too much, at the cost of his own
health and safety. Being too self-serving is not a fault I would ever
associate with him."

"There are those too which point out that he did not wish to be regent
before, the last time we were here. I think perhaps he still does not, but
he found he wished he had been able to do more for the kingdom. Even with
a good regent with whom he was on good terms, important things have gone
wanting. In the end, he thinks that he is the best choice available, as do
I. But you should not support him in this because we feel that, but
because you do. If you are unconvinced, speak with him, or I would be
pleased to speak with you as well, whoever you may be. I ask you merely
not to dismiss him due to the words of those based in rumor and fear."

On Augustus 29, 362, a small Reeve party accompanied by the Justiciar,
Damian von Black, was seen moving out into Merchant's Row, carrying out
numerous colorful pieces of clothing from a shop called Cruppe's Attire for
the Common Man, as well as a curvacious young woman in cuffs. Barely an
hour passed before the place was boarded up and a small sign nailed to the
door.

"To those who have asked," the Justiciar began to a small gathering crowd
of curious onlookers, "One of the current candidates for the Regency, Baron
Herbor le Cruppe, has been selling clothing articles unlawfully. When
approached to purchase a license from the Merchant's Guild by Grand Magnate
von Tenrir, he declined, and then again when I was called to confront him.
I remind the citizens of Lithmore that the law remains the law and that
breaking it will have consequences, no matter who you are."

When asked for an additional statement, the Justiciar simply said, "Please
remember to pay your taxes, too. There are too many outstanding funds, and
repossession brings me, neither any of those who have to handle the
paperwork, no pleasure."

A Consequential Influence Event

Stemming from the western coast of Vandago, support has begun to surface
for Lady ab Toulour's regency campaign.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, this newfound support seems to have emerged from
Garod, where the woman's own grandfather and aunt had once ruled. Rumors
state that the current Countess was a friend of the Lady ab Toulour during
her time at the Ducal Court. From there, other members of Vandagan
nobility have begun publicly voicing their support of the young woman as
Regent.

Though it has yet to be seen how far this support will go, in the past
days, reports from Vandago say it is only growing stronger.

A Consequential Influence Event

A disparate group of Lithmore City residents have been speaking out in
favor of the Lady ab Toulour lately.

One older gentleman, a wine merchant of some repute said: "I've been
working with the Lady and her family for years now. They've always been
very good for business, walking the right line that both encourages trade
and keeps things in good order."

The young wife of a nobleman has been chattering at court, full of praise
for the social graces of the lady. "She is simply -wonderful-, always a
delight to keep company with, entertaining and she's smart as well!"

Even the soldiery are full of good will, as a man-at-arms from Beresfield
chattered to his number, "Oh, I've got a lot of time for the good Lady!
Pays us well, treats us with respect and keeps us well equipped. Fair on
the peasants too- she keeps her lands runnin' and runnin' well."

These stories and more are circulating through Lithmore's gathering
places.

A Consequential Influence Event

With a substantial portion of the city affirming support for Lady Ivana ab
Toulour and an even greater share remaining loyal to Lord Ariel le Orban, a
band calling itself the Coalition, comprised of the Reeves in Lithmore and
those performers in the Hollow Globe troupe of the Troubadours' Guild,
submitted a tactful statement, widely disseminated on account of
gaily-attired bards sporting loose lips. The nominal figurehead of the
Coalition, Orlando dul Cavallari, announced the following:

'Our members have yet to decide between Lady Toulour and Lord Orban, but
have met with both privately and find them both sincere, honorable, and
worthy candidates. For that reason, as this campaign heads towards its
natural conclusion, we call upon those other supplicants for the title of
regent to withdraw their bids so that everyone in Lithmore can make a sound
decision as to our future, without any complication of the issues.'

Among the Coalition, support for both frontrunners is high, with Lady
Toulour enjoying favor amongst the Reeves, whereas Lord Orban boasts ties
with the troubadours. The other candidates boast no discernible support.

A Majestic Influence Event

In the wake of the upsurge of support for the Lady ab Toulour, the Lord le
Orban's backers are speaking up as well - and they speak loudly.

"Lord le Orban fought demons to stop the Great Flood," a grey-bearded
Southsider remarks, "and then put together the relief efforts afterward. I
don't trust them noble folks to ever think about us, but he sure did. Paid
out of his own pocket to ensure our dead were taken care of."

A young noblewoman chimes in, "Do you remember the trouble over the last
push in the Daravi war? Lord le Orban helped put together the council to
deal with it and compiled all of the information the council used for their
decision-making. We might have lost some ground, but everyone at the
Palace knows we'd have lost more if not for his organization and attention
to detail."

A priest of the Order concurs, "Lord le Orban has always been the Order's
staunchest ally. He's supported the Order's mission in word, coin and
especially deed. We've not forgotten how he brought down that heretical
Grand Inquisitor with his own fists, or threw himself against that witch's
wall to try and rescue Her Eminence von Mestan, or the burns he took
stopping the demon-possessed Azadar."

"He's always supported the Samael dynasty," a palace guard discloses.
"Backed the Dowager Queen, then her husband both - alongside the former
Regent, Lord bless her soul. It's an open secret he's one of the ones who
freed the little Queen from her captivity - so there's no doubt he'll
safeguard the Throne for her!

"Ever since the Lord le Orban accepted the reins of the Orban Mercantile
Group," speaks a trader in the aforementioned organization, "our profits
have slowly but steadily increased. He knows how to balance economic risk
and gain in his own investments, and what financial matters he should
delegate to the specialists."

The stories keep on coming; it seems people from every walk of life have
witnessed the Lord le Orban's hard work during his decade in the Capital,
and many of them are banding together on his behalf to speak up now.
