A Modest Influence Event
After substantial deliberation regarding the regency candidates' two
frontrunners, Ivana ab Toulour and Ariel le Orban, it appears the so-called
'Coalition of Misfit Guilds', comprised of members of the Reeves and
Troubadours, declared for the latter. Noting that a united realm is a more
prosperous one, the Coalition urged other candidates -- including those
whom it previously called upon to bow out -- to back Lord Orban's regency.
Beyond the standard political boilerplate, a curious nugget emerged, which
likely justified the break towards Orban: 'Much of Lord Orban's proposed
platform was expected and worthy; so too was Lady Toulour's, and we can say
plainly that she had good ideas - including the importance of uniting a
cosmopolitan, disparate realm. But Lord Orban also agreed that ending the
practice of slavery occurring in Lithmore was a worthy cause and pledged to
enforce the law within its borders.
'We sincerely hope that Lord Orban will, as Regent, do the right thing
throughout the entire Kingdom, in Lithmore and beyond, as his past exploits
have taught him that political expedience must yield to what's right.'

Arriving with the tide, a Tubori ship bearing the crest of Fort Merdigal
docked at the city late in the day. For many hours, the gangplank from the
ship was not dropped, though words and movement could be heard from aboard
the ship. Finally after close to half a day, the gangplank was dropped and
twenty-five men started down the gangplank. The first twelve were
soldiers, their armor leather but of superior make. A single man followed
after them, clothes of quality to suggest a gentryman but nothing higher,
then another twelve soldiers followed after. When the troops got into
formation, the man in the finery addressed the crowd.
" I am Ropert le Krunin, Seneschal to the Baron of Fort Merdigal, Lord
Phillipe le Plantavan. I am here to arrest the man known as Steffon le
Fictis for impersonating the Baron."
Having gotten straight to the point, the man led the troops into the city
to lodgings.

Citing lingering health concerns, the Cardinal of Lithmore, Carmen de
Medina, has announced her resignation from the position she has held for
several years. This comes in the wake of recent discontent at her lack of
availability, a lack also explained in her statement:
"I find that I have not been able to dedicate sufficient time to my duties
since my injuries at the hand of a mage several months ago. I shall be
glad to remain in Lithmore in the service of the Holy Order, but must pass
this most sacred office into the hands of a successor who is more able to
bear the heavy weight of its responsibility."
This unexpected announcement has left the Order searching for a new leader
of the faith among its ranks, with none yet daring to predict the final
choice of the Synod.

The newly minted Regent, His Grace Ariel le Orban, wasted no time in
releasing his first statement to Lithmore:
"People of Lithmore, I am humbled and pleased to have received your
support. I thank those of you who spoke in my favor, and the Court for
recognizing my case for the Regency.
Now that I have been so honored as to succeed Her Grace ab Chevalier in
guiding the Kingdom for our Queen Caitrin ab Samael, I am prepared to begin
working on my central goal: to create a stronger, more prosperous Lithmore
for her to rule when she comes of age.
In this vein, I have many plans already: finalizing laws against dangerous
drugs and poisons; ensuring the Reeves are empowered to combat the slave
trade where it should reach its grasping fingers into our fair city;
considering new strategic directions for the war in Daravi, including extra
reinforcement for our Southern border. Many of you may recognize echoes of
Her Grace's plans in these; I am proud to say I wish to complete the work
she was not able to.
That said, I believe there is also room for new ideas and new directions as
well. Once Court is established in its new configuration, I wish to hold a
meeting of the Royal Council to discuss the trajectory of the Kingdom.
I ask that any and all interested in guiding Lithmore's future use this
opportunity to write to me with their suggestions and concerns. Your
thoughts will be considered and discussed at this meeting, and ideas of
particular merit and plausibility may well help shape policy over the
course of my Regency.
In the meantime, we will celebrate the establishment of Queen Caitrin's
second Regency with a brief ceremony and a public reception, time and date
soon to be announced.
I look forward to serving you all."

A commotion occured on Sunset Bridge on Octobris 14th - a party of
individuals, some of considerable name and repute, emerged from the sewers
covered not only in filth but also blood.
The party, led by Justiciar Damian von Black and Magistrate Orlando dul
Cavallari, apparently assaulted the headquarters of an underground slaving
ring that had been operating in the city itself.
While the incident seemingly resulted in the end of multiple slavers - half
a dozen bodies were carried forth from the sewers to be unceremoniously
buried in the Criminals' Plot - signs suggested it was not entirely
successful. Among those buried was a small child, his throat slit and his
body displaying the signs of malnutrition and mistreatment.
The full extent of the slaving ring has yet to be determined, but rumors
whispering around the city suggest the slavers' point of origin is known -
none other than Savir, the province of the new Regent. Savir has long been
a hub of trade with Farin, given its location on a central north-south
road, and its markets are well-known for their extensive offerings.

Late in the afternoon of Octobris 23rd, the long-divided High Synod finally
came to a consensus, electing Mother Yvelle von Raspien to the position of
Cardinal and Matriarch. This comes after weeks of tense deliberation
following Her Holiness Carmen de Medina's resignation from the post.
Shortly following the decision, the church bells were rung and faithful
called to St. Aelwyn's. There, a Bishop made public the decision made a
few hours prior. Though the speech Yvelle von Raspien followed with was
brief, rumors say it was well-worded. Many are hopeful that good will come
from the Church's new leader.

Whispers turned to announcements as the troubadours held a private party in
their theatre. New leadership was founded from within ranks as their
former Laudate failed to return to his post. It was the lively Salazar op
Argyle who took to the point as Laudate and plucked from the lower ranks
the multi-faceted Evangeline op Trumina!
It is said that the bards celebrated well into the wee hours of the night
throughout the theatre, plenty of performances and drinks to be had by all
of those who were present. Hopefully this duo will provide stability to
our flighty troubadours!

The new Regent was inaugurated successfully in a brief ceremony during
Magebane, 362 - on Octobris 29th. The ceremony involved vows sworn to the
Crown, represented by Dowager Queen Cellan ab Samael, the Kingdom -
represented by the Lady Reeve Brynieve de Versin - and the Church,
represented by Cardinal Yvelle von Raspien.
After the vows, His Grace le Orban spoke briefly on some of his priorities
and plans. A position, the Royal Historian, was also advertised:
afterward, the Court released a statement clarifying the job's description.
The statement read: "Individuals interested in chronicling the Realm's
history and ensuring its heroes are remembered should contact the Lord
Regent Ariel le Orban and High Steward Tomas ab Jinosa with an application.
This application should involve experience, qualifications, and also an
explanation of other things the candidate could do with the position beyond
these standard duties."
Following the Inauguration, The Winter Market Faire was held after a brief
recess. Merchants and townspeople alike flocked to the Town Hall, doing a
brisk business on Yule gifts. Magnate Zeita von Zarrova's project was
clearly successful, as were the refreshments provided by the Court,
including a large chocolate ship designed by Chef Sebastian Barca - the
talk of the happenings.
The contentment in the city that may follow the free food and drink of the
Faire, however, may be threatened by the Regent's announcement that the
Royal Council he intends to call will deal with the Daravi War. The topic
of the decade-long conflict at the Farin border is one fraught with
emotional tension - what policy, if any, will come of it is likely a topic
of discussion on many lips.
