C O O K S W A N T E D !
Give the gift of charity this season and donate your time and skill
to cooking for the Southside Almshouse. We have the ingredients, we
just need more hands to assemble them into a decent meal. If you're
interested, please contact Rain for more information.
(This will be used in an advance against city metrics. If you have lowish
cooking skill that you'd like to raise, this will be a good opportunity!)

With Lithmore's withdrawal from Edessa, many of the Daravi who lived in
Lithmorran-controlled villages and have been practicing Davites for the
past ten or more years have also fled. They sought refuge in Farin, but to
say they have found themselves unwelcome would be an understatement. At
first driven out of the towns in which they stopped, the situation has
quickly escalated with and edict issued by the Duke of Farin, declaring
them to have been discovered as spies and heretics, bidding all good
Davites to refuse to tolerate their presence and be wary for their magery.
Burned en masse in several baronies, they have hurried further north, many
now beginning to arrive in Lithmore.
A large group of the refugees have set up camp west of Lithmore, pleading
for protection and to be allowed to stay. A woman by the name of Halima
has positioned herself as their leader, insisting that they are good
Davites who cannot be expected to remain under persecution in the Edessan
lands abandoned back to heathen Daravi control. They are just simple
people who want the ability to live quietly in their faith, brought to them
by Lithmore. They do not expect a warm welcome, but they hope that they
might be tolerated.

The arrival of the Daravi and their camp outside of Lithmore has left
many questioning what the government and those in charge would be doing
about this potential threat on their doorsteps. It did not take long
before a statement was issued from the office of the Regent:
"People of Lithmore. Recently a group of Daravi who have been living under
Lithmorran control in Edessa for the last ten years have arrived in
Lithmore. Many questions are being asked about them. Are they spies? Are
they mages who are pretending to hold a faith that is not their own?
Should we be afraid? To the last question, I tell you firmly that you
should not.
"The Royal Court of Lithmore, the Holy Inquisition and the Reeves are all
united in doing everything that we can to ensure your safety and the safety
of the Kingdom while a careful examination is given to the Daravi refugees.
Unauthorized individuals are to remain outside of the bounds of the camp
and keep a safe distance."

Since the Daravi refugees have arrived, stationing themselves close to
the west gate of Lithmore, many have been seen within sight of the refugee
camp - overwhelmingly, efforts have been humanitarian. Giving food,
treating their seek, etc. No one group can claim responsibility for these
acts, however - from rumor about Lithmore - they have been on a relatively
individualistic scale, with lone citizens of Lithmore showing their
kindness by seeing to the refugee's needs.
However, those rumors have dried up with Regent Jinosa's announcement that
those unauthorized should not go within the border of the camp. Talk
swirls of less than kind ways to deal with the refugees, who many see as a
menace - unsure of why they are here in the first place. In court, gossip
circulates and falls down to freeman ears: the leaders of Farin are sending
their own Knights and Inquisitors to bring the refugees back south. None
of the leaders within Lithmore have yet to detail their plan on dealing
with the refugees to the public, and some question if they even have one
and if so, what will it mean for the refugees?
Meanwhile, anti-Daravi sentiment spills over the city, but has yet to
formulate in action as no single person seems set to channel the feeling
into an organized movement. Contrary, a sect of charitable do-gooders bids
people to be compassionate and accepting of the Daravi converts, and push
to see the refugees gain an ambassador within the city's higher echelon.
The situation is poised to ignite with but the lightest spark; The question
is, who will burn?

On the first of Januarius smoke trailed into the western sky. The
Daravi camp, home to refugees from Edessa, had been lit on fire. While
only rumor and speculation have surfaced about the cause, many blame a
shapeshifter, who took the form of a bear and breathed fire.
Of course, that's the craziest speculation. Most are content just to blame
it on the mages that most believe must be hiding in the foreign camp.
Others think that a group of anti-Daravi rioters got their jollies that
night.
Whatever the circumstance, the Daravi - poor and destitute to begin with -
are only sinking deeper into a pit of problems as the situation progresses.

Until further notice, entry and exit from the Daravi encampment is
hereto denied unless on is accompanied by a Knightly escort that is
approved by either the Grand Master or the Earl Marshall. Any supplies
offered will be searched by the Knights on duty, and only those suspect
will be confiscated. This order will remain in effect until the Daravi in
the Encampment is cleared of any signs of magery, heresy, or secular crime
that will be declared by the appropriate organizations.
Stamped with the seal of the Earl Marshall

Official papers bearing the script above has already began to circulate -
mostly nailed up at the Western Gate. Many wonder at the sudden Knight
stranglehold on the situation. Fewer still whisper that the camp will be
completely cleansed by the week's end.

Not long after the announcement of the Wine Festival Ball, Lord Regent
Tomas ab Jinosa issued a statement saying, "We've had a rough time in
Lithmore of late, but now is the time for renewal for all, a time for us
all to relax and hopefully find some measure of enjoyment. In this spirit,
the Laws of sumptuary will not be enforced for the duration of the Wine
Festival Ball for those who are in attendance. The day after they will be
back in full force, but for any who wish to indulge for the ball, have no
fear. I for one look forward to seeing the exciting costumes that one
might come up with to fit the fairy tale theme. Lord bless and see you at
the Ball."

_________________________________________________________________________
On the evening of Januarius 17th, the end of a typically chilly
Lithmorran day, the Grand Inquisitor requested a gathering of the High
Synod, or at least to those members present and the appointed legates of
the others. A pair of senior bards were also invited to sit in. He had,
in his hands, a sizable dossier with scribed copies for every person
there.
"Your Holinesses, Assorted Legates, Honored Bardic Witnesses. I today
present to you the plans of the Inquisition for dealing with the Daravi
within our midst. For myself, as for many of you, I have been alarmed that
all that I have heard from our esteemed- and sadly absent- colleague, the
Cardinal of Farin. These Daravi have been reported in numerous incidents
of heresy, suspicions of magery, violence and subverting the lawful rites
of Duke Cameron II and all within his lands. These were not the faithful
converts of Edessa- no, -those- people had withdran already in an orderly
fashion under the direction of our knights, our armies and other departing
citizens. These are not just simple folks that have lost their homes- they
have disobeyed the dictates of both lawful authorities and Inquisitorial
dictate in Farin. My deepest fear is that these people intend to do harm
to the people of Lithmore and the way of life that we have here.
To this end, my strongest advice is caution. The Knights Lithmorran and
the Reeves are making ready to barricade their unlawful encampment to
prevent them slipping away or for local troublemakers to mingle with them.
Each individual Daravi will be interviewed in the most probing manner by a
team consisting of an Inquisitor and a member of the Reeves. The final
determination for the Daravi for whom no guilt is uncovered, we suggest to
leave in the hands of the secular authorities- The Regent, the Duke and the
Justiciar- to deal with as they may- we have given our advice, but are
content to leave it as just that. However, we do look forward to the
arrival of the Inquisitors from Farin, it will be a slow process to ensure
that this work is done thoroughly, and the aide of experienced Inquisitors
with Daravi experience will be a boon and a very welcome asset to our
mission.
Unfortunately, I must, at this juncture, respectfully resign my post as
Grand Inquisitor, of which I informed Cardinal Halliwell before this
assembly gathered. The pressing issue of the Daravi and their long, bloody
history with my people in Farin and my family in Margyarna does not leave
me in the best position to rightly determine their fate. I leave their
determination to the wise and less emotive voices of His Holiness of
Lithmore, the Lord Regent and the ever respectable Lady Justiciar. I would
like to thank Cardinal Halliwell in particular, for the opportunity to
serve as Grand Inquisitor; it has only been a few months, but I am pleased
with the work we have done together. I will, of course, be more than
pleased to continue serving loyally in Lithmore as an Inquisitor.
Thank you for your time, Holinesses, Assorted Legates and Honored
Witnesses.

It's over two weeks into the new year, and still Southside is munching
happily away on leftovers from the Southside Yule Feast, where Rain and
many others joined together with one single goal: to make sure no mouth in
Southside went unfed during the holiday season. Not only did the group
cook enough food to fill the Almshouse, but they also educated the
Southsiders on how to make their scarce resources last longer in the lean
winter season, and providing dried ingredients in highly popular, portable
'stew kits'.
Remarkably, secular crime rates were drastically reduced during the holiday
season (when they, of course, should be highest). The lull in petty
thievery and muggings continues still; a fat Southside is a happy
Southside. Spirits in the poorest district of Lithmore have never reached
very high during the winter, but the Southside Yule Feast has changed
that... And at least for a short time, Southside takes a temporary
reprieve from being arguably one of the worst places on Urth.

Sameer de Ashimid appeared on the steps of the cathedral to speak to a
small cadre of listeners that soon grew in number.
"The tainted creature known as Veiss Chnee has, through foul means, managed
to escape from her lawful imprionment ahead of her Review of Faith. This
woman is suspected of using her magic to do foul murder- and by escaping,
all but confirms her tainted guilt in this manner as well as her lack of
will to redeem her soul.
Anyone that sees her is asked to quickly inform a member of the Knights
Lithmorran. Anyone that harbors or aids her will be infected with her
taint, and her guilt in the grizzly murders that she has committed."
With that, the Inquisitor took a few questions and then called the
conference to an end.
