I think it would be unique if the game had a set list of 'Lore Skills'. Taking City Lore from Survival and making it's own whole 'type'. So you'd have Animal Lore, City Lore and then Guild Lore for each Guild. It would obviously be a Guild Skill for each Guild... But it would contain the most significant history of said guild. Even taking it a step further, you could have Demon/Mage Lore that is automatically available to Mage's. This would help to expand the range of skills for those who want to be the 'learned' type of characters. It could also, in my opinion foster 'Lore Trades' between those of other Guilds, should they so desire which would be pretty fun.

I'm not sure I understand the anticipated effects of each lore skill or the intended structure. Can you provide some examples of the different skills, in use, so I can get a sense for what the staff would have to do to be able to implement this and the potential effects on the game?

As for Animal Lore, you could easily identify what animals and beasts are what, then maybe type the command 'lore (animal)' and it would give you a list of information about said creature. Maybe it tells you strengths and weakness. The same would go for Demon/Mage lore. It would allow you to identify what this strange shade like thing is, and how to more easily defend yourself from the thing. As far as guild lore, I was hoping it would work similar to City Lore. You might enter an area specifically special to the guild, and it would provide insight as to past events. Or maybe you are luck enough to get hold of an ancient item related to the guild and the lore skill would provide some knowledge about it's past uses, owners, etc etc.
