As this scarce winter approaches, rumors begin to come to Lithmore of
troubles in the outlying Duchies. One story in particular stands out to
many: riots have swept through parts of Vavard where peasants have attacked
the homes of the wealthy merchants and nobles who populate much of the rich
duchy.

In Hevstina, where an absent Farra dul Baildana rules as Countess, riots
have been most severe. Several estates burned in the night, fueled by
rumors that the Countess and her merchant allies have been hoarding food
for the past year in preparation to eat fat this lean season -- reports
that, if true, certainly bore no fruit in the flames of the mob. Some
wonder about the organization of so many fires throughout the northern-most
province of Vavard and suspect rebellious intentions that are using the
famine on the horizon as an excuse to try to topple the eastern nobility.
Others still question the capability of the young Countess, who has spent
the past year in Lithmore City.

Regardless of the reasoning, the response to discontent in Hevstina has
been swift and hard. Reeves -- many of whom have questionable origons --
swept through the villages and towns of Hevstina, dragging forth
ringleaders and those who were allegedly involved. These people were
planted before magistrates, witnesses were given to attest for their guilt,
and they were executed without ceremony and buried in criminal's graves.

This continues a long history of occasional malcontent in the historically
prosperous County of Vavard; revolutionaries have always found some root in
the racially-charged coastal hills of Hevstina. This past winter, a host
of revolutionaries were caught in a plot they confessed intended to unseat
the Countess. The Counts of the Baildana line have always responded thusly
to those who confess or are found guilty as traitors: a swift fall of a
sharpened axe.

Rimilde's approval shifts from Approved to Approved.

With Lady Batarostra's enthusiastic approval of the Royal Councils decision
to appoint a Vandagan Justiciar, citizens of the Vandagan enclave in
Lithmore City have become optimistic about the upcoming winter and
threatened food riots; the Countess states she is eager to put her support
behind the Reeves and does not expect the young Lady Justiciar to
disappoint.

The Court is abuzz with the news that a High Steward has been named.
Baroness Margaux le Rousselle has been serving as Royal Seneschal for a
short time, but with the surge in Court membership, she has reportedly been
hard at work, notices of hirings to study city infastructure appearing on
boards through Lithmore.

It didn't take long before his Grace released a short statement confirming
the rumors, praising the new High Stewards efforts and his optimism for the
future. What this will mean for the court and for Lithmore as a whole
remains to be seen. However, this is the first time the office has been
filled since his Grace held the position under Ariel le Orban.

Class Relations shifted from Substandard to Poor.

Whispers in taverns turn to murmurs, and murmurs turn to cries of anger
over the Regent's address; a great deal of the city's common folk have
turned on the ruling class. Many are upset that their concerns are being
dismissed as irrational, others cry out the already-poor cannot possibly
prepare themselves the way the wealthy expect, as the rich take it for
granted.

Despite the increased presence of the Queen's Guard around the city and
around granaries - and perhaps in light of it - banditry of incoming
caravans is increasing; the people fear the wealthy cannot be trusted to
fairly distribute goods, and so have taken it upon themselves to provide.


The movement is difficult to source, but rumours suggest an organized group
with deadly charismatic figures at its core.

In subject of: The Grand Inquisitor Holds Mass

In the wee hours of the morning, a mass was called, church bells ringing
all through the land. When the people attended, they found the Grand
Inquisitor Zaerieth Silverclaw standing by the altar, waiting to greet
them. Once everyone was settled, she gave a rousing sermon, calling out the
lack of trust within the land, lack of trust and lack of faith in those
appointed to lead. She called out the example of those who commit theft of
food stuffs, and then went on to challenge, "What do you put your faith,
your trust in, when you lay your head down at night?" She admonished
everyone to trust in themselves, to trust in their leaders, and to trust in
the Lord. To fail in this, is sin. The mass ended with the passing of the
chalice and questions. There, the Lord regent took some time to speak to
the people who wished to offer their abilities and services in light of the
coming famine.

With Magebane marking the unofficial end of the harvest season,
Lithmore's concerns about its food supplies have borne out; the harvest was
a poor one, likely caused by the late start to the Spring. A few more
harvests will still need to be finished, but more than half of the food
stores this year are imports, a significant increase from the norm, thanks
in large part to the efforts of Lithmore's influential. These additional
resources will surely help to save some lives this Winter, but there are
very real worries that there will still not be enough to go around.

In answer, food prices and tensions both continue to rise. Banditry on the
roads is becoming rampant. Beggars are coming further and further north to
plead their case. Common folk with a reasonable amount of resources are
stockpiling as much as they can, trying to look out for their own needs.

As the autumn frosts creep across Lithmore proper, the retinue of the
Baron of Rosewood, Gaven ab Kovar, was spied rolling through the West Gate
shortly after sun-up, his horse and carriage followed by others labored
under the weight of grains and supplies for Lithmore. Rumors surround his
arrival in the capitol city, ranging from the simplicity of a visit to
honor his sister's appointment to High Steward, to darker, less savory
intentions circling around talk of budding anarchy in the streets of
Lithmore.

A new fashion sensation is sweeping Lithmore - news from Vavard of the
latest trend in style for men's clothing, and it is: ruffles, ruffles, and
more ruffles! The fashionable wealthy elite are scrambling to drape
themselves in layers of flowing lace - perhaps the recent strain in class
relations is behind the change, as the nobility strive to make themselves
look 'softer' and more personable. Ruffles went in and out of style some
time ago, but fashion seems to be cyclical, as there's no denying that
they're back. Vavardian noble fashion icon, Count Arioso dul Cavata of
Upper Gerdain, arrived at the city in an outfit covered in ruffles ahead of
the curve, and had this to comment: "Hmm...? My outfit...? Ah, yes... As
Vavardian nobility, I do have to be on the pulse of the latest fashion
trends, when I am not setting them myself. Of course I knew that ruffles
would be all the rage once again. I may have gotten a few sidelong glances
from some who lack the fashion foresight, but I am sure that any
style-savvy nobleman is quickly going to find himself draped in lace this
season if he wants to keep his reputation."

Amidst the rumors of tensions between north and southside and recent
banditry upon the merchant caravants increasing, word filters out of
meetings at the Palace between some of the nobility and freemen of the
city. Details were sparse at first, but soon an announcement followed,
asking that all hunters and gatherers of the city please coordinate their
efforts with Leila Durani if they are wanting to help with the current
crisis.

Word also was released that Doctor Rain Reid would be managing the
distribution of food southside through the southside alms house, both from
the supplies gathered by the crown and from any donations that people wish
to make. The Regent made one of the first donations, sighted coming to the
border of Southside to hand over boxes of foods to be distributed,
reportedly from his and his wifes very own pantry.

As winter nears, there is a focused initiative within the city's
leadership to ensure there is enough for everyone during these winter
months. The Court and the Reeves are co-sponsoring a community hunt, and
everyone is welcome. There is a need not only for hunters but for
butchers, cooks and medics to join along. People with lower skills should
see this as a learning opportunity, and a chance to work along side more
seasoned hunters to learn methods, and places around the city to hunt.
Those interested are to meet at the west gate. Depends on the amount of
people, there might be multiple teams.
