I love that we can set iAW/AFk with a message, but it kinda takes away its power that we have to tell someone before we can get an idea that they have it on (if we are not in the same room) and what is it's message, while I think it would be super helpful to have that show up in whois. This way when I someone does they will see that, for example, "Otois is AFK: hardly working on super secret project" without having to send that person a tell.

Or let "afk show (name)" and "iaw show (name)" work anywhere, not just in the same room.

I'm not sure if this existed at some point and was removed, or if it was never the case, but could we also just see it on "who"? Sometimes you send a messenger or mail and it can be OOCly disconcerting to wait for someone to receive or reply, when really they've been AFK asleep for hours or whatever.

Yea, and that pushes you to "tell before messanger" which I am not big fan off as when possible I prefer to arrange my RP via IC means, not over tells. And if I got simple indication whether someone is around the PC or not makes it a bit easier.

I kind of remember something about AFK and IAW being removed from the who list so newbies or people logging in wouldn't who check, see a bunch of people not around, and log out again. But adding afk/iaw show or maybe even who iaw/who afk might be of help?

Are there any downsides to the above?

Inertia was right - it's not going to show in who because it's off-putting (not to new players necessarily, but anyone logging in). What happens is people log in, see no one around, then log right back out... and wait, people would start to stick around if just one or two people spamming in and out like that just stuck around for five minutes.

The very minor inconvenience of finding out someone is AFK when you send them a tell (sending a tell takes almost no effort) is not worth the risk of people using AFK and IAW status to determine who is active and likely in RP at any given time and who is not. It's already too easy to meta the wholist to figure out who is who (especially when there aren't many people online), and this would only make it easier to meta, in my opinion.

If you send a tell to someone and they're AFK, what's the big deal? Now they know you want to talk to them, and they can get back to you when they're available. This seems like a non-issue to me. It loses none of its power. If you REALLY want people to know you're AFK, you can put it in your title.

Also: I think when you 'whois' you can tell how long someone has been idle, which already gives more info to players than I would like.
