Given how long things have been as they are, I don't really expect this to go through, but it'd be nice.
We have a lovely terrain system on TI. Terrain rooms have a few considerations:
1. What you can forage from them
2. The size of the room (most people won't notice this, but if you mesh an outdoor room to an indoor room, navigation becomes tricky; you have to use move or step/lunge to align yourself before you can turn a corner and open/unlock a door)
3. Whether it's indoors or outdoors. This largely matters for some magic spells. Possibly other things, I'm not sure.
Currently, if a PC wants a garden room, it's likely to be given the city terrain type, or the plains or forest terrain type.
For a garden, all three terrain types fail #1 on the list above. They let you forage really weird things that you wouldn't usually find in a garden. CIty is far worse than the other two, but it also feels kind of wrong to forage things like honey in your own back yard for no additional cost if you pick one of the outdoors rooms. City also fails #3, since the terrain type doesn't qualify for spells that require the outdoors. Plains and forest fail #2. They don't match up well with other rooms of a home due to size, making navigating through your home kind of a pain.
So I propose a new Garden or Yard terrain type. Sized the same as the city terrain, counts as outdoors, and has it's own (likely small) selection of forage-ables that make more sense. This would let gardens and yards within the city do what they need to do, while also standardizing it for the benefit of builders.
Yard Rooms
To note, if a spell is based on indoors/outdoors, that's a different flag than terrain, but more the is there a roof over the head. If a spell is based on terrain and city streets fail it, it's likely we don't want it to happen in city gardens either.
To be more specific, since the character is dead anyway, Tower of Tanios wouldn't work in an outdoors garden in my previous character's garden, which was set as a city room. Xinoe changed it to one of the other outdoor terrain types for me.
Either way, choosing between foraging hats and deckboxes in my garden or having one awkwardly sized was a bit weird. The spells was just one of the concerns.
