I constantly leave my candles lit when I don't need to and only remember to snuff it when I get the message that its flickering because it only has an hour of life left. I've thought of two ways this could be handled, but I don't care if either is used as long as some kind of notification is implemented.
1. Lit could be added to the prompt the way wet and drawn are,
2. A message "The light from your candle is hardly noticeable in the light already here." added to scenes with light sources when your candle is lit (the message itself needs some work, but you get the idea).

I think light is already in the prompt stats. In fact I'm sure it is, but I don't know the %thing offhand. Probably %L or something.
I was under the impression that prompt showed what the light sources in the area were. I'm not sure if that is enough to remind someone to snuff a candle, especially since area's outside the wall's sometimes have their own light sources. I believe most people would tune it out due to that. I'll do a test when I'm next able to. It also takes up a decent amount of room in the prompt, which may discourage those who like to keep their prompt neat and unobtrusive (such as myself).
I was specifically thinking of a "lit" prompt, which I phrased in such a way because I knew there was already a light prompt and wanted this one to act differently.
Your response is helpful though, I'll check out the light prompt and see if it would work just using that one after all.

Just confirmed in game, %L shows either "(light)" or nothing at all depending on the state of your worn light.
Nope, it means YOUR worn light is lit, not just that light exists somewhere in the room. That latter thing would be indicated by not seeing the message "(OOC: It is pitch black, act accordingly...)" or whatever at the top of the room desc.Jester wrote:I was under the impression that prompt showed what the light sources in the area were. ...

I do so love it when a feature I think would be useful happens to already exist. I would like it if the notification under the prompt were shorter, Lit instead of Light, because my prompt is already pretty cluttered, but its awesome that the feature already exists.
You checked to see if the Light prompt was on in a city, and went off if you snuffed your candle?
Checked it myself, it seems light only shows up for your own light-source! That's great!
I guess this whole thread can be moved, unless it would help letting people know the Light feature of the prompt works in helping reduce the number of candles you waste.
