On a recent General board post

There was a recent post by a player, who was disappointed by the game's lack of positivity/negativity balance, with negativity outweighing the former, and with the vindictive aspect of TI being too much. I'm a new player and this concerns me a little, part of it is because I don't really understand. Could someone explain please?
I don't really understand the situation myself, honestly. I think it might be quite personal to the player.
The best I could get out of it is that the rumor system, which is anonymous, might have some scathing negative rumors about their character. That said, I suspect a few nasty rumors in the rumor mill wouldn't be enough to cause that post, so there's probably more going on that most people just wouldn't be privy to.
I spoke with another player that quietly told me that people have been a bit freaked out and scared since magebane because some mages rather skillfully put half of the pbase in the hospital and weren't able to be caught, so there's some malaise amongst the Order/Knights that they simply can't win - but we've corrected some of the issues that resulted in that situation, so that issue might just be lingering in people's psyche's?

Hi, Gooseberry! I think there's probably some burnout going around lately, but that always seems to happen after periods of intense activity or when real life rears its ugly head.
In the case of the recent general board post to which you refer: please don't let it deter you. That particular player appears to be dealing with issues on a personal level lately, and their situation need not be generalized to the rest of the playerbase. In character, Lithmore can often be a gritty and unforgiving place filled with thematic racism and political intrigue, but on an OOC level, the playerbase is friendly, helpful, and kind to newbies. When people are stressed out or dealing with RL issues, it can be difficult to reconcile those two facts. As the author of the post in question said for herself, she plays a difficult character and is dealing with a fair amount of RL stress.
Please also know that there are friendly and cheerful characters in play, and that the playerbase will make efforts to ensure that you have a fun introduction to the game.
