During the OOC chat of 12/03/2016, Kinaed said we could use think almost like emotes, using:

Code: Select all

think 's mind is a mess
I tried, and, in my opinion, failed:

Code: Select all

Hansel think "'s mind is a mess"
I am wondering why we don't imply use the same syntax in thoughts than in emotes.

There are two reason I personaly don't use much the think command:
  • I'm not familiar with its syntax (I tend to add /self, /targets, and quotations marks).
  • I rarely can fix a thought in a sentence. Most of the time, what I believe my character think is not that explicit, more confused or hesitant.

Code: Select all

think /self's mind is a mess. He's unable to fix words on the mix of fear for /knight and desire to kill him. "What should I do?"
That seems to work perfectly in my eyes, be easier to use since it is the same old syntax than every other emote, and, I believe, offer us more freedom to formulate our thoughts.

I believe the sintax would be:

think , /self's mind is a mess.

Or, since that might output weirdly, you could just use:

think , feels like their mind is a mess.

It's easy once it's understood.

Actually, the correct syntax seems to be:

Code: Select all

think , 's mind is a mess.
Output:
Hansel 's mind is a mess.
That is nonetheless a hack, considering the space before the "'s".

And, imho, the comma is not intuitive, especially when we could use the same syntax than all emotes.

The comma is a standard for lots of places. You can use it in some of the ooc channels as well:

ooc , loves pumpkin pie

echos

Gerolf loves pumpkin pie on the ooc chan.

I would suggest using the /self reference or using non-possesive tenses.

As a (formerly) frequent thought-stealer and sharer, setting think up to use the same syntax as an emote would make the most sense.

I agree, I'll alert Az to review think again and change it to match the general emote syntax. The problem is that thinks are just funky in terms of the number/types of cases involved, whereas emotes are very straightforward with a single perspective.
